Democrats released a laughable new “coronavirus” spending bill Tuesday that would rain trillions of future taxpayers’ money on an already bloated and incompetent federal government. More than anything else, it’s proof Democrats are an unserious party unfit to govern at all, let alone in a time of crisis.

The bill was initially dubbed CARES 2 Act and rapidly renamed the HEROES Act, as if it’s heroic to dump other people’s money out the window after taking it at gunpoint. It would expand by billions of dollars the spending of just about every government agency, most of which Americans don’t even know exist, and very few of which have anything to do with treating the disease.

While 33 million Americans are out of work and taking handouts from their own children to make ends meet, House Democrats would give billions more dollars to bureaucrats who already have much higher salaries, benefits, and job security than comparable private-sector workers. This is despicable.

A bipartisan Congress has already fed trillions it doesn’t have to numerous agencies in the name of coronavirus. Well before this panic, the United States was edging closer to a spending-induced economic meltdown due to decades of congressional mismanagement. This bill would only worsen that calamity, without proof any one of its measures will reduce the coronavirus death toll, endangering the tens of millions of Americans with other health concerns who depend on fiscally unsustainable medical welfare such as Medicaid and Medicare.:snip:

Some Democrats concede $3T House coronavirus bill is DOA

Senators are certain a $3 trillion coronavirus bill poised to pass the House on Friday will die, as Republicans identify poison pills and some Democrats admit it’s an opening shot for negotiations.

Conservatives say provisions steer funds toward abortions and away from deporting illegal immigrants. And though House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is seeking to pressure the GOP-held Senate, even liberal allies admit the measure is a first draft.

“Every one of [the coronavirus bills] has started out with a proposal that then has been negotiated to reach bipartisan support,” Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) told The Post.

Blumenthal declined to comment on whether the Friday vote in the House should be scrapped, but said: “One way or the other, they’re going to be negotiated.”:snip:

The Real Reason Why Pelosi Is Finally Putting the House Back to Work

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is finally bringing the House of Representatives back to work for a vote on Friday. The House went into recess on March 14 after passing the coronavirus stimulus bill, the CARES Act. Representatives briefly returned in late April to pass extra funding for the Paycheck Protection Act, but then they went into recess again. While the Senate went back to work last Monday, the House has remained in recess for two months. Both chambers went into recess citing concerns about the spread of the coronavirus, as the Washington, D.C., area is a COVID-19 hotspot.

On Tuesday, Pelosi unveiled her $3 trillion bill supposedly focused on providing more relief for Americans during the coronavirus crisis. Like her previous efforts, however, the bill is jam-packed with lefty wish-list items, including vote-by-mail provisions, unemployment checks that actually pay workers more than they would receive on the job, and a repeal of part of Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, among other things.

As House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) explained, Democrats “are taking advantage of this crisis to play politics and push their radical socialist agenda. Don’t let them tell you otherwise. Take them at their words.”:snip:

GOP Lawmaker Breaks Ranks, Will Vote For Pelosi’s Coronavirus Package

Jason Hopkins

May 14 2020

An outgoing Republican lawmaker says he will buck his party to vote for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s coronavirus stimulus package, a bill that includes a slate of progressive measures.

New York Rep. Peter King told to The Hill Wednesday that he plans to vote for House Democrats’s HEROES Act, a $3 trillion relief package for Americans suffering financially from the coronavirus pandemic. The bill has been criticized by some Republicans as a “liberal wishlist” that has no chance of passing.

Pelosi’s legislation, for example, would make illegal aliens eligible for economic assistance, gives protections for sanctuary cities, and allegedly paves the way for coronavirus funds to end up in Planned Parenthood’s coffers. King, who represents a New York district hit hard by the viral outbreak, said he is looking past the measures he disagrees with because his constituents stand to benefit from the bill.

“In some ways it’s a tough decision and in some ways it’s an easy decision,” King said to The Hill on Wednesday.

“Look, I disagree with a lot of things that are in that bill: some of the provisions involving illegal immigrants, some of the absentee ballots, the mail, all that stuff. But the fact is, to me, [Majority Leader Mitch] McConnell sort of laid it down … he’s talking about no federal aid to state and local governments,” he explained.
