The pianist and singer's son, Danny Penniman, confirmed he passed away at the age of 87 to Rolling Stone. A cause of death is still unknown. Born Richard Wayne Penniman on Dec. 5, 1932, the rock icon first burst onto the music scene in the 1950s with hits like “Tutti Frutti," “Long Tall Sally," and "Good Golly Miss Molly."
