This Week in Crazy....or Stupid

Sept. 30 2019

know. What do you mean, “this week” in crazy? With today’s regnant liberalism, we could easily do “the last half-hour in crazy.” But I do have a day job, plus a wine and whisky addiction that has to be attended to, so I have to be, as the great Ian Faith put it, “more selective.” (Bonus pop culture points for knowing that reference.)

Let’s start with . . . Paul Krugman. I know. You’re thinking, “Do we have to?” Yes, because, behold this Tweet:

Though it does remind me of the suggestion that singer Cheryl Crow once made that we all use only one square of toilet paper, to “save the planet,” naturally. Which prompted perhaps Mark Steyn’s greatest line ever: “All we are saying, is ‘give one piece a chance.'” That would be the left today, certainly.

Like I say, This Week in Crazy. Though you can call it This Week in Stupid, too.

UPDATE. See what I mean about stepping away for a half hour? The Guardian goes and does this:

Woman stabbed herself because she was sick of living in Donald Trump’s America

The 46-year-old woman, who is not named by authorities, reportedly slashed herself three times in the stomach in Palmetto, Florida on June 2. When police responded to her home, she lifted her shirt and showed an officer ‘three stab wounds on (her) stomach that were still bleeding.’ ‘I observed blood all over (her) legs, hands, and face,’ the officer said, according to a police report obtained by The Smoking Gun. The officer wrote in an incident report that the woman told him: ‘I’m tired of living in Trump’s country. I’m tired of Trump being President.’

How Illinois Schools Teach Preschoolers To Celebrate Transgenderism

To get a sense of what all Illinois public schools must begin teaching children starting next year, one can look at LGBT curriculum developed this summer in a wealthy Chicago suburb.
Joy Pullman
Oct 9 2019

Starting July 1, 2020, all Illinois public schools are legally required to teach children LGBT history and only buy textbooks that include the topic. NPR affiliate Illinois Public Radio labeled Christian and conservative opposition to this law while it was being considered as stemming from “hate groups.”

This is what it looks like when an ignorant person talks to a [Really Ignorant Person[/b]

The Moron Chip Theory:

Deep within the brain of most humans, resides the Moron chip. This chip, when working properly, is constantly observing the person's behavior. In the event of dangerous or stupid behavior, it will go into alarm mode. Historically, this chip may be what helped the smarter cavemen to not become "food" or "stuff on a rock".

What we have here is a moron chip failure

PETA Sues to Give Pigs German Constitutional Rights

Wesley J. Smith

November 20, 2019 9:48 AM

The issue is known as “animal standing,” and activists want to let beasts sue in court to “break the species barrier” and create animal personhood, meaning moral equality between us and them.

Chimps were not allowed such a status in New York, as the NonHuman Rights Projects now seeks to have an elephant declared a person. An orangutan in Argentina was declared a nonhuman person and granted a write of habeas corpus from a zoo. The ape was recently moved to a sanctuary in Florida, which ironically shows we are still in control regardless of whether it is based on “rights” or duties.

Now, in Germany, PETA has sued to have pigs declared subjects of constitutional rights. They want to stop pig castration — an animal welfare issue certainly worth debating. But the radicals also want pigs granted constitutional protection and the right to sue in court, claiming misanthropically that animals are akin to slaves. (Slavery is evil because it treats equals unequally. Animal husbandry properly treats unequals — us and animals — unequally.)

Granting animals standing in court would have astounding consequences. From the Greenwich Time story:

Lawmakers to call on ICE to release all transgender detainees

We write to demand the release of all transgender people currently detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Transgender migrants and asylum seekers are particularly vulnerable to sexual harassment, solitary confinement, physical assault, and medical neglect. These inhumane conditions and systematic abuses are evidenced in countless reports and accounts by formally detained people.

Another Of The "Stupidest Litigation" Contenders Dies -- But Just Barely

January 18, 2020/ Francis Menton

Among the many important initiatives of this website has been holding the competition for the Award for “Stupidest Litigation in the Country.” Nominees for the coveted Award have included the group of lawsuits brought by various cities and counties against major oil companies, seeking to hold those companies liable for prospective physical damage from things like sea level rise, alleged to result from fossil fuel emissions; and the lawsuit brought by New York’s Attorney General against Exxon claiming that Exxon defrauded its own investors by downplaying the risks of climate change to its business. Yet to many readers, the very first nominee for the Stupidest Litigation Award has always been the clear leading contender to win it. That nomination, made in December 2017, went to the litigation titled Kelsey Cascadia Rose Juliana v. United States. This is the case where a group of adolescents in the Pacific Northwest have sought an injunction to require the federal government to decree an end to all use of fossil fuels, in order to “save the planet.” Really, it’s hard to top that one for Stupid.

But just because a particular litigation is the leading contender for the Stupidest Litigation Award does not mean that no judge will grant victory to the plaintiffs. After all, the whole idea behind each of these Stupid Litigations is to offer some judge a thinly-veiled rationale to become a hero in the progressive movement by taking self-government away from the people and turning control over to the bureaucrats and experts. Which is why it is significant that yesterday, a three-judge panel of the federal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ordered the Juliana case dismissed. Moreover, the nature of the dismissal is such that the case as a practical matter is unlikely to come back. The only remaining recourses for the plaintiffs are to the full Ninth Circuit (known as an en banc rehearing), and/or to the U.S. Supreme Court. Neither is likely to change this result.
