ST. PAUL, Minn. — Minnesota Democrats are worried that allegations of domestic abuse made by a former girlfriend of Rep. Keith Ellison (D) could be a drag on his chances of winning the state’s attorney general’s office, a post Democrats have held for almost half a century.

The Minneapolis Democrat has denied the charges, and an investigation paid for by the state Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party could not corroborate the woman’s claims.

But the allegations have taken a toll, and the race between Ellison and former state Rep. Doug Wardlow (R) is neck and neck.

A poll conducted for the Minneapolis Star Tribune and Minnesota Public Radio last month showed Ellison leading Wardlow, 41 percent to 36 percent, even as Democratic candidates led their Republican rivals up and down the ballot in other contests.

The poll showed more voters, 31 percent, said they had an unfavorable impression of Ellison than those who said they had a favorable impression at 20 percent.

Karen Monahan speaks

Scott Johnson

Oct 14 2018

Karen Monahan is Keith Ellison’s #MeToo nemesis. Ellison is the deputy chairman of the Democratic National Committee and the Democratic Party candidate for the office of Minnesota Attorney General. Ellison’s abuse of Karen Monahan — the least of his disqualifications from office, but certainly a timely one for Democrats to confront — was voluminously documented in attorney Susan Ellingstad’s investigation of the incident (see report below). I wrote about the report in “The case against Ellison.”

We know the date and place of the incident. It was August 26, 2016, and it took place at Ellison’s apartment.

Karen Monahan hasn’t spoken much about the incident in public. She flew last week to Washington to record a segment on Sinclair Broadcasting’s Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson. The segment was broadcast this morning. It is well worth watching. For some reason, I cannot get the allegedly embeddable video to display. You can access it along with the text of the segment here. Ellison declined to speak with Full Measure.

Poll: Ellison Trails GOP Opponent by 7 Points in Minnesota Attorney General Race

David Rutz
October 23, 2018

Rep. Keith Ellison (D., Minn.) trails Republican opponent Doug Wardlow by 7 points in Minnesota's attorney general race, according to a new poll.

A Star Tribune/MPR News Minnesota survey found Wardlow with 43 percent support to Ellison's 36 percent, with roughly one in six voters undecided. It represents a 12-point swing from a Minnesota poll last month showing Ellison with a five-point advantage.

Ellison is much more of a known entity in the state as a six-term congressman and national profile from being deputy chairman of the Democratic National Committee. Some of the support for Wardlow stems more from opposition to Ellison, the Star Tribune reported.

More people said they are aware of Wardlow compared to last month, but nonetheless fewer than half the people who took part in the survey said they recognized his name.

Some poll participants who plan to vote for the Republican said their decision is based less on Wardlow and more on opposition to Ellison.

Tom Foley registers as write-in candidate for Minnesota attorney general

The former Ramsey County attorney said "a number of people" asked him to run so their votes could be counted.[i/]

A candidate who lost the DFL primary for Minnesota attorney general registered last week as a write-in candidate.

Former Ramsey County Attorney Tom Foley said Thursday that “a number of people” asked him to run so their votes could be counted.

In Minnesota, voters have the option of writing in a candidate’s name, but for some offices (such as state, judicial and county offices) those eligible candidates need to file a written request by Oct. 30 to have those votes counted.

Just what Keith Ellison needs at this time, someone to pull votes from him. :D
