Draggingtree Posted January 17, 2018 Author Share Posted January 17, 2018 Supreme Court turns down Houston cop killer's appeal By Keri Blakinger Updated 7:42 pm, Tuesday, January 16, 2018 A Houston man convicted of killing a police officer nearly three decades ago lost out Tuesday in the Supreme Court. The nation's highest court without comment turned down an appeal from Carl Buntion, a 13-time felon who gunned down a Houston motorcycle officer in 1990. At 73, the former auto mechanic is currently the oldest prisoner on Texas death row. During a June 1990 traffic stop for a minor violation, Buntion got out of the car and shot Houston police office James Irby in the forehead then twice in the back. It would be the first execution under Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg, a Democrat who oversaw the first year without an execution in the county for more than 30 years.
