Geee Posted October 30, 2017 Share Posted October 30, 2017 Politico Democratic power lobbyist Tony Podesta, founder of the Podesta Group, is stepping down from the firm that bears his name after coming under investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller. Podesta announced his decision during a firm-wide meeting Monday morning and is alerting clients of his impending departure. Podesta is handing over full operational and financial control to longtime firm CEO Kimberley Fritts, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the meeting. Fritts and a senior group of the Podesta team will be launching a new firm in the next one or two days. Sources said the transition has been in the works for the past several months. “[Tony] was very magnanimous and said, “This is an amazing group of people,” a source said of Podesta’s remarks. Podesta also told staff he “doesn’t intend to go quietly, or learn how to play golf.” He said he “needs to fight this as an individual, but doesn’t want the firm to fight it.” Fritts also addressed the gathering, telling staff that she is “thrilled at this opportunity” and that, “This is not about me, this is about y’all.” Several other senior staff spoke about their excitement about the future of the firm. The 2nd case reveled today was of a low level campaign staff member (or maybe volunteer) lying to FBI about timeline. He was trying to get campaign to talk to some Russian connections he had (setup?) but campaign kept telling him no. So investigation shifted more towards Hillary and her friends than Trump today. Paul Manafort, President Trump's former presidential campaign manager for a brief time, was indicted Monday by a federal grand jury, along with one of his business associates Richard W. Gates, on twelve counts. The charges, which cover conduct going as far back as 2006 and continuing through 2016, include conspiring to defraud the United States in business dealings with Ukraine, conspiracy to launder money, false and misleading FARA [Foreign Agent Registration Act] statements, and being an unregistered agent of a foreign principal. While the charges have been brought as a result of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into possible collusion between President Trump’s presidential campaign and Russia, they have nothing to do with Mr. Trump's campaign. In response to the news of the charges, President Trump tweeted: “Sorry, but this is years ago, before Paul Manafort was part of the Trump campaign. But why aren't Crooked Hillary & the Dems the focus?????” In fact, at least some of the charges brought against Mr. Manafort and Mr. Gates may turn out to be millstones around the necks of the Podesta Group, the Democrat leaning consulting and lobbying firm co-founded by Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman, John Podesta, and his brother Tony. The closest Mueller has come to Vladimir Putin — in a media-driven investigation that even James Clapper admits has nothing to do directly with Trump — are “Russian hackers” Paul Manafort and Rick Gates. Both have been indicted for crimes that have no direct link to the president However, any investigation into Tony Podesta and his lobbying organization, the Podesta Group, brings the Russia probe one step closer to Hillary Clinton. This, of course, was not the original intent of Mueller’s probe, but a closer look into this fabricated Russia scandal shows Clinton, Podesta, Obama and Democrats could be mired in a Russian uranium deal and tied to Russia.
