The Week in Pictures: Omnibus Mockery Edition

Steven Hayward

Nov. 4 2017

There’s so much in the news this week deserving mockery, from the puny indictments from Muller, to the defenestration of Hillary by the hand of Donna Brazile, to the unending Weinstein sequels. Let’s stick with that. I hear Harvey Weinstein and Roman Polanski are teaming up to launch a new Hollywood studio. Their first production will be House of Cads, starring Kevin Spacey, who is suddenly available at a steep discount. No word yet on whether Bill O’Reilly will make a cameo. He’s apparently holding out for his own new show, The No-Win Zone.

The Week in Pictures: Pervado Edition

Steven Hayward

Nov. 25 2017

The cascade of sexual harassment charges against liberal grandees has become dizzying. I fully expect that when the details of settlements by members of Congress eventually come out—and they will come out—it will include a number of Republicans as well as Democrats. But so far the problem seems disproportionately to occur among liberals in the media and Hollywood. Gee, I wonder if there’s a connection?

I wish I could have been a grandma when my grandmother was a grandma.  These times are just too much information for an old lady.

Today’s Laugh: Real Socialism!

Steven Hayward

Dec. 4 2017

I’m sure most of our readers will know the old laugh line that “real socialism has never been tried.” Guess what? The World Socialists actually believe this! Below is a chart they’ve put out putting us all in our places (and putting people in their places is what socialism is all about, no?). Notice how both North Korea and Venezuela are both “capitalist” countries. Best laugh I’ve had since the latest Kurt Eichenwald tweet

The Week in Pictures: “The Conversation” Edition

Steven Hayward

Dec. 9 2017

Al Franken’s “resignation” speech contained a familiar trope of today’s liberalism—about how we need to have “a conversation” about sexual harassment. Liberals are always going on about how we need to have a “conversation”—usually a “national conversation” (the best kind!) about especially race and racism. But in practice what liberals have in mind is not a conversation at all, but a confession and repentance: everyone is supposed to confess their sins again the latest iteration of the liberal catechism. But the only “conversation” that really needs to take place is a short one mastered by someone who excelled at it before changing careers: “You’re fired!”

It also overlooks the fact that the Union was a slave holding Union for "four score and seven years"  before people decided to blame all slavery on the South.   Had the Southern states remained in the Union,  Slavery would have continued at least another 40 years.   I point out the math on this to people who don't seem to grasp the point.  A constitutional amendment requires 3/4ths the majority of the states.  There would have to be 44 states in the Union before the first attempt at abolishing slavery could take place assuming the 11 states of the Confederacy would vote against it.  At the earliest this could happen would have been 1896 with the entry of Utah into the union.   Assuming the other Five slavery states that remained in the Union during the war opposed it also,  it would require a Union of 64 states to pass such an amendment.

As it is,  they simply dodged the proper constitutional process for abolishing slavery,  and it was more or less done through the power of the army.   It was a dictatorial abuse of power,  but nobody cared because they wanted to punish the people who fought against them in the war,  and so they pretended it was all legit.

slavery was wrong .
