Islamic State claims hotel attack in northern Somalia
Caleb Weiss
Feb. 9th, 2017

The Islamic State has claimed yesterday’s suicide assault on a hotel in the northern Somali town of Bosaso in a statement released online. The attack left at least four security guards and at least two gunmen dead.

According to local media, militants affiliated with the Islamic State faction operating in the semi-autonomous region of Puntland stormed the Village Hotel in Bosaso. This prompted a fierce shootout between the militants and the hotel’s security guards, with four guards and at least two gunmen dying. The number of attackers has varied in press reports, as Reuters reported that only three jihadists stormed the hotel, while Somali media has said seven.

In a statement released by the Islamic State’s Amaq News Agency, the jihadist group said that “fighters of the Islamic State” were responsible for the assault. Initial reporting pinned the attack on Shabaab, al Qaeda’s branch in East Africa, as it is notorious for targeting hotels in Somalia, but Shabaab denied responsibility.

Policeman gunned down, others wounded in Tunisia
March 12, 2017

Militants possibly linked to Daesh extremists attacked a checkpoint in a town in southwest Tunisia early this morning, killing a policeman and wounding three others, security officials said. Two militants were also killed in an exchange of fire during the attack in Kebili, which lies on the edge of Tunisia’s southern desert region, said the officials, speaking on condition of anonymity. The attackers opened fire on a police patrol that had set up a checkpoint at a roundabout in the town, one security official said. Security forces were combing the area to search for militants who may have escaped following the attack, a second official said.

A man wearing camouflage has been arrested after trying to drive a car with French plates into a crowd on a busy shopping street in Antwerp.

Belgian police, who confirmed more security personnel had been sent to the area, said the car was being driven at high speed and that pedestrians had to jump out of the way to avoid being injured.

In the car, authorities said they found knives, a shotgun and a gas can with an unknown liquid and the case has now been taken over by officers who usually deal with extremist attacks.

The suspect was identified as Kori Ali Muhammad, a 39-year-old man who was wanted in connection with the shooting death of a security guard outside a motel Thursday, said Police Chief Jerry Dyer. The FBI has been notified of the shooting deaths.

Suspect tells police he killed Tampa Palms roommates for disrespecting his Muslim faith

Tony Marrero, Times Staff Writer

Monday, May 22, 2017

TAMPA — A man accused of shooting his roommates in a New Tampa apartment told police he shared neo-Nazi beliefs with the two men until he converted to Islam then killed them because they disrespected his faith.

Devon Arthurs told investigators he shot Jeremy Himmelman, 22, and Andrew Oneschuk, 18, because he had become angry about the world's anti-Muslim sentiment and "wanted to bring attention to his cause," according to a Tampa Police Department report obtained Monday by the Tampa Bay Times.

BACK STORY: Victim's sister calls suspect unsettling, dark and eerie

The report provides chilling new details about the shooting in the Hamptons at Tampa Palms complex and the hostage situation that unfolded afterward at the nearby Green Planet Smoke Shop.

Arthurs, 18, entered the smoke shop at 15325 Amberly Drive about 5:30 p.m. and removed a semiautomatic pistol from his waistband.

"Do me a favor and get the f--- on the ground!" he yelled to a female employee and male customer, the report states. Arthurs asked the customer, "Why shouldn't I kill you?"

A few minutes later, another customer entered the store and Arthurs ordered him to get on the ground. He told all three people in the store that he had already killed someone.

"He further informed all three victims that he was upset due to America bombing his Muslim countries," the report by police Detective Kenneth Nightlinger.

Two Tampa police officers arrived about five minutes after the second customer entered the store. One of the hostages ran out of the store, and the officers were able to persuade Arthurs to let the other two leave. After several more minutes of negotiating, he surrendered and allowed the officers to place him in handcuffs.

Germany detains teen allegedly planning Berlin attack

17-year-old asylum-seeker caught outside capital had sent farewell message to family, saying he’d joined jihad

By AP May 30, 2017

BERLIN — German state police were questioning a 17-year-old asylum-seeker Tuesday after a tactical unit took him into custody outside Berlin on suspicion that he was planning a suicide attack in the capital. Police in the state of Brandenburg said the teenager was detained Tuesday in the village of Gerswalde, 100 kilometers (60 miles) northeast of Berlin, after they learned he had sent a farewell message to family members and told them that “he had joined the jihad,” or holy war.

The state Interior Ministry’s office identified the suspect as Syrian, but Herbst said investigators were checking to see whether he falsely registered as a Syrian but was actually from a North African country. The teenager, whose name wasn’t released, came to Germany in 2015 as an unaccompanied minor and registered as an asylum-seeker. He has been living since 2016 in a home for minor refugees in Gerswalde, and was detained there in the Tuesday morning raid.

Germany saw a number of violent attacks by Islamic extremists last year, including the deadly truck attack on a Berlin Christmas market that left 12 victims dead and dozens of others injured. The attack, carried out by a young Tunisian man who had been denied asylum in Germany, was later claimed by the Islamic State group.

Terrorist may have lured police to deadly shootout in Australian suburbs

Ben Westcott, CNN

June 6 2017

(CNN)A former terror suspect with a "long record of violence" took a sex worker hostage in a suburban Australian apartment building Monday, in what police say may have been an attempt to lure law enforcement to a gunfight. One man was killed, and three police officers injured, as a result of the hostage standoff in the Melbourne suburb of Brighton, which ended after the attacker -- since named as 29-year-old Yacub Khayre -- was shot dead by police.

Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull told reporters Tuesday the attack was being treated as a terrorist incident, saying it had "shocked all Australians."

"This terrorist attack by a known criminal, a man who was only recently released on parole, is a shocking, cowardly crime. It is a terrorist attack and it underlines the need for us to be constantly vigilant," he said.

Turnbull said Khayre had been previously known to police, and had links to extremist organizations. "He had a long record of violence, a very long record of violence, he had been charged with a terrorist offense ... and acquitted. He was known to have connections, at least in the past, with violent extremism," he said.

Five female suicide bombers killed 16 in double attack in Nigeria

AFP , Monday 19 Jun 2017

At least 16 people died in a double suicide bombing near a large camp for people made homeless by years of Boko Haram violence, Nigeria's emergency services and locals said Monday. The bombing was one of a series of attacks in the conflict-hit region on Sunday which killed a total of 24 people, most of them civilians.

In the attack, which took place on Sunday evening, two women blew themselves up in Kofa village which houses a large camp for those displaced by Boko Haram violence, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said. "They killed 16 people," said regional NEMA spokesman Abdulkadir Ibrahim. Kofa lies about 15 kilometres (nine miles) southeast of Maiduguri, capital of Borno state. Local residents gave an initial toll of 12 or 13 dead but the spokesman said three of the wounded had died of their injuries in hospital.

At around the same time, two more explosions occurred inside the nearby Dalori 2 camp which is home to some 10,000 people, he said, indicating it was caused by another two female bombers. Several people were wounded but only the attackers died, he said, without saying how many were hurt. Dalori is home to two camps which together provide shelter for some 50,000 people displaced by the violence between Boko Haram and the Nigerian army.

Fresh terror in Brussels: Suspected suicide bomber threatening train passengers 'shouts Allahu Akbar and triggers an explosion' at city's central station as he is shot dead by soldiers

Ekin Karasin and Peter Allen In Paris for MailOnline

Published: 15:20 EDT, 20 June 2017 | Updated: 19:17 EDT, 20 June 2017

A suspected suicide bomber who allegedly shouted 'Allahu Akbar' before triggering an explosion at Brussels Central Station has been gunned down and killed by soldiers. Shots rang out soon after 8pm on Tuesday as police and soldiers moved in to 'neutralise' the man, who was said to be 'threatening rail passengers' in what is being considered as a terrorist incident.

The attacker was not confirmed dead for several hours after being shot as medics could not approach him for fear that the explosives strapped to him could go off any second, official authorities said.

Initial reports suggested the suspect - described as being 'tanned, well-built and in his 30s' - was wearing an explosive vest or rucksack, while witnesses later claimed he tried to blow up a trolley or a suitcase. Terrified passengers inside the station ran towards the tracks as they tried to avoid the blast while tourists outside fled in panic. Within a few minutes the busy nearby shops and restaurants were shut down.

A bomb squad performed a controlled explosion of a bomb belt the suspect had at the Central Station and evacuated the city's famed Grand Place square 650 feet away while checking to see if there more hazards. The suspect was shot by soldiers who were already patrolling the station when they swooped on the attacker. There were no other casualties and police quickly said the situation was 'under control'.

Anybody can say "Allahu Akbar"...  so we should not jump to conclusions about the religion of the attacker or his motivations.

Please folks... let's show that we are open minded and not bigoted.... narrow minded thinkers fueled by stereotypes and right wing hatred.
