Valin
Police chief, rabbi among 71 nabbed in child porn bust Marisol Bello and Yamiche Alcindor May 21, 2014 NEW YORK Two police officers, a rabbi, a registered nurse, a nanny and a Boy Scout den leader are among 70 men and one woman arrested on charges of trading child pornography in what federal officials say is one of the largest-ever roundups in the New York City area. The arrests included a woman charged with producing and distributing child pornography involving her own child and a man who had previously been convicted of sexually abusing a child. Another used hidden cameras to secretly film his children's friends. The arrests were part of a five-week federal investigation that resulted in the seizure of nearly 600 desktop and laptop computers, tablets, smartphones and other devices containing a total of 175 terabytes of storage, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations said in a press release Wednesday. Some of those possessed libraries with thousands of sexually explicit images and videos of children. At a press conference announcing the 71 arrests, officials laid out tools used by the suspects to acquire the illicit materials. Valin
Parents hire coaches to teach children to ride bikes Safety first! How did we ever manage to grow up? To All The Kids Who Survived The 1930's 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's !! First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing and didn't get tested for diabetes. Then after that trauma, our baby cribs were covered with bright colored lead-based paints. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking. As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags. Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat. We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle. We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this. We ate cupcakes, bread and butter and drank soda pop with sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because we were always outside playing. We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on. No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K. We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem. We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, no video tape movies, no surround sound, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms...we had friends and we went outside and found them! We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents. We made up games with sticks and tennis balls and ate worms and although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes, nor did the worms live in us forever. We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them! Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!! The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law! This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever! The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all! And you are one of them! Congratulations! SrWoodchuck
Did This Restaurant Just Ask To Be Robbed? http://www.westernjournalism.com/restaurants-sign-entice-armed-robbers/ As Western Journalism reported recently, popular restaurant chain Chipotle recently caved to pressure by anti-gun lobbyists by requesting customers refrain from bringing firearms into its establishments. This move represented just the latest in an ongoing effort to make sure Americans are helpless to stop an attack in any public place.Restaurants are already common targets for robberies, and prospective criminals looking for a target can be emboldened by publicized policies prohibiting weapons. This could have been the case at a North Carolina eatery that was recently struck by a gang of armed intruders. According to local reports, three suspects entered The Pit through a rear door and forced employees to lie on the floor at gunpoint. Two employees were injured during the altercation, with one requiring a trip to the hospital.Furthermore, a number of customers were just a few feet away as the potentially deadly attack transpired. clearvision
Tennessee has decided how it will respond to a nationwide scarcity of lethal injection drugs for death-row inmates: with the electric chair. Republican Gov. Bill Haslam signed a bill into law Thursday allowing the state to electrocute death row inmates in the event prisons are unable to obtain the drugs, which have become more and more scarce following a European-led boycott of drug sales for executions. Tennessee lawmakers overwhelmingly passed the electric chair legislation in April, with the Senate voting 23-3 and the House 68-13 in favor of the bill. Valin
2,000 New French Trains Won’t Fit in French StationsFrance’s state-owned rail network RFF just ordered 2,000 brand new trains as part of an effort to modernize the country’s transit network. There’s just one problem: the new trains are too wide for most of the country’s train platforms. How did this happen? EU rules required France to split ownership of its railways and the trains that use them. Réseau Ferré de France (RFF) owns and operates the country’s rail infrastructure, while Société Nationale des Chemins de fer Français (SNCF) operates the actual trains.Unfortunately, the two separate state-owned firms don’t seem to know how to talk to one another. SNCF was in charge of ordering the new trains, but it relied on RFF for specs of the stations the trains would be servicing. RFF supplied dimensions for new stations, though most of France’s stations are older and, therefore, a different size. The upshot of all of this: those new trains won’t fit in more than half of the country’s stations, so France is now working to widen old platforms to accommodate the ordering error—repairs which have already cost more than $100 million.(Snip)I'm Sorry (well not really) but

Valin
Daily BeastSkirts should be a fashion option for menShort shorts—and skirts—for men have become more prevalent on the international fashion runways, and can increasingly be found in stores like Barney’s New York. We are even getting used to seeing them on celebrities. Kanye West has pranced around on stage in an array of women’s clothes, trying to make leather skirts for men the next big thing. Sure, the internet may have exploded, but West’s female-associated attire only led us to realize that some of the most famous (and manly) men in history—Kurt Cobain, Mick Jagger, and Samuel L. Jackson—have all rocked the bottom in their heyday. But it is still difficult for society to accept these gender-bending articles of clothing on the everyday streets when worn by non-celebrities. Maybe the boys in France and Wales, will pave the way for this change. Maybe in the next century, Kanye will be proven right and men in leather skirts will be the next big thing, and not just something that leads to a discussion on gender. Do clothes need to be gender-specific? Will the time ever come when fashion is simply fashion?Read The Article We at The American Society of Steve's do not (generally speaking) approve of men wearing skirts
Valin
Zzzzzzzzzz Mitch Berg Word has it that Fast Eddie Schultz – the single liberal talk show host in the business who understood anything about doing radio – is calling in the dogs and whizzing on the fire. (Yes, I know – Stephanie Miller. But her only good idea is copying Laura Ingraham’s show in every single particular; otherwise, she’s just another shrill Taylor Marsh clone). On the one hand, Schultz was literally the only liberal in talk radio who understood anything about doing radio, as opposed to standup comedy, essay writing or speaking to a roomful of people. They’re very, very different things. (Snip)
