Ex-Florida Democratic Rep. Corrine Brown sentenced for mail, wire and tax fraud involving sham charityFormer Florida Democratic Congresswoman Corrine Brown was sentenced on Monday to five years in prison for mail, wire and tax fraud involving a sham charity.
A jury convicted Brown of stealing money from a bogus charity, One Door For Education, which purported to give scholarships to poor children.
Federal prosecutors said she ran for office as a leader of democracy while stealing money and working to cover it up. Prosecutors said she and a top aide commited fraud by using donations for lavish parties and trips.
The aide and another official accepted a plea deal and testified against Brown, who served in Congress for nearly 25 years.
She was convicted in May on 18 of 22 charges. :snip:

Democrat Running For Congress Indicted For Fraud And Embezzlement [VIDEO]

Henry Rodgers

12/25/2017

A Democrat running for a Virginia seat in the U.S. House of Representatives was charged with fraud, embezzlement and theft in relation to payments made to a nonprofit in 2012.

Shaun Brown, 58, appeared in front of a judge Friday and claimed all charges that have been brought against her were false. Brown also said she is going to continue to fight the charges until they are all dropped, Fox News reported Monday.

Brown reportedly received $803,000 from a nonprofit organization she created. The money was said to be for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Summer Food Service Program. Prosecutors have said they believe Brown received that money by filing false reimbursement claims with the Virginia Department of Health.

BUSTED: Democrat Florida Mayor Arrested In FBI Sting, Took 'Russian' Checks

Ryan Saavedra

January 26, 2018

"Law enforcement officials in Florida arrested Hallandale Beach Mayor Joy Cooper on Thursday after an FBI sting caught her allegedly involved in money laundering and corruption-related activities.

The Broward State Attorney’s Office said that Cooper surrendered on charges of "money laundering, official misconduct and exceeding limits on campaign contributions, all of which are third-degree felonies," ABC 10 reported. "Prosecutors also charged her with soliciting contributions in a government building, which is a first-degree misdemeanor."

Florida Governor Rick Scott suspended Cooper from her role as Mayor of Hallandale Beach on Friday following her arrest.

"Cooper is prohibited from performing any official act, duty, or function of public office; from receiving any pay or allowance; and from being entitled to any of the emoluments or privileges of public office during the period of this suspension," Scott wrote in an executive order. ABC 10 adds:

Democratic Candidate Busted Returning Fake Ring to Jeweler

The approach to primary season is proving to be a rough time for Democratic candidates. They are feeling the general rage against incumbents no less, if not more, than their Republican counterparts.
But Rep. Ron Kind (D-WI) is probably going to make it to at least the general election unscathed.
Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District runs along the southwestern part of the state from a line roughly parallel with Minneapolis-St. Paul to the Illinois border. A moderately left-leaning swing district, it has been represented by Kind since 1997, thanks largely to its inclusion of university towns La Crosse and Eau Claire.
This year, Kind faces a challenge from the Left in the person of one Juliet Germanotta, an ordained minister and self-described “proud transgender woman.” Germanotta writes that “as a woman, a transgender, a person living with HIV and human right [sic!] advocate, I do not feel sufficiently represented.” His platform contains a pledge to be “fiscally responsible by questioning expenses.”

Germanotta needs to begin with his own finances.

It seems that Germanotta ordered a yellow gold, diamond, and emerald ring from Manhattan’s Mikaelians Jewelery worth $4,800, then subsequently decided that he didn’t like it and demanded his money back. Not a problem, said the jeweler: just return the ring.
Instead, Germanotta sent them a $10 replica and attempted to sell the original.:snip:

Democratic Nashville Mayor Resigns After Affair With Bodyguard, Pleads Guilty to Theft

Megan Barry, the Democratic mayor of Nashville, Tennessee, resigned on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to a felony theft charge after admitting that she had an affair with her bodyguard.
"While my time today as your mayor concludes, my unwavering love and sincere affection for this wonderful city and its great people never ends," Barry said at a news conference after appearing before a judge and pleading guilty.
The Tennessean first reported that Barry would announce her resignation at a press conference scheduled for Tuesday morning.
In January, Barry admitted to a nearly two-year-long affair with Sgt. Robert Forrest, a former member of the mayor's security detail.
The now-former mayor pleaded guilty to felony property theft and will pay $11,000 in restitution to the city of Nashville, the Associated Press reported. She was also sentenced to three years of probation.

Alcee Hastings, the Democrat who just can't stay out of trouble

Can Democrat stalwart, Florida Rep. Alcee Hastings, stay out of trouble? Apparently not. He's in hot water again on a new corruption rap and doesn't seem to be fazed at all by it. It's just another day in the life of Alcee Hastings. Long failing upward, Hastings got his congressional seat after he was thrown out of the Florida judiciary for corruption.
According to the Washington Free Beacon:
A convicted money launderer employed by Democratic Rep. Alcee Hastings (Fla.) in one of his Florida district offices received a pay increase for "part-time" work last year, new salary data filings show.
Additionally, Hastings's longtime girlfriend Patricia Williams appears to have received a promotion, though she did not get a raise since she is already receiving the maximum salary that is allowed to be paid to congressional staffers.:snip:

Gutiérrez Ordered to Repay Federal Govt. Over Misuse of Funds

Jack Heretik
March 23, 2018

The House Committee on Ethics released a series of reports on Friday and ordered Rep. Luis Gutiérrez (D., Ill.) to repay the government after allegations he misused federal funds.

Gutiérrez has been told to repay $9,700 to the Treasury as a result of what was called "inadvertent" use of funds provided to his office for its operation, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The Illinois Democrat had hired former chief of staff Doug Scofield to advise his office, resulting in questions as to whether Scofield was acting as official staff.

"The OCE Board recommends that the Committee on Ethics further review the allegation, as there is substantial reason to believe that Representative Gutierrez used funds from his MRA for an impermissible purpose – to retain an individual to provide services to his congressional office that more closely resembled those provided by an employee or consultant, rather than a contractor – in violation of federal law and House rules," the Office of Congressional Ethics recommended.

Governments Have Been Corrupt Since Before Christ

04/11/2018William H. Peterson

How prevalent has political corruption been over recorded history—and how did it originate? Quite an inkling as to its prevalence and origin can be found in a book written by H. J. Haskell and published by Alfred A. Knopf in 1939. The book is The New Deal in Old Rome.

Haskell, a newspaperman with the Kansas City Star, was both puzzled and inspired in the late 1930s when he and his wife drove across the Pont du Gard, the stone bridge and aqueduct that soars 165 feet above the river bed near Avignon in southern France. This triumph of engineering and architecture was built by the Romans some two millennia earlier. It still stands, mute testimony to the genius of Rome. Yet it raises the question: What happened to the glory that was Rome?

The magnificent Pont du Gard cast a spell on Haskell. Perhaps the spell was of the same sort that fascinated Edward Gibbon when he walked along Hadrian’s Wall, which demarcates the northern boundary and defense line of Roman Britain. Gibbon went on to write The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, the first volume appearing in 1776.       :snip:   https://mises.org/wire/governments-have-been-corrupt-christ

The Democrats: A Corrupt, Insane Posse Masquerading as a Political Party

Eleven years ago, the writer Michael Walsh wrote (under his penname David Kahane) “Think of the Democratic Party as it really is: a criminal organization masquerading as a political party.”

After the Democrats’ Russia, Kavanaugh, Mueller, and Ukraine fiascos, the Iowa caucus debacle, and Friday’s bizarre Democratic debate, I think we need to update it: It’s a Criminal, Insane Posse masquerading as a political party.

The week began with an outstanding, uplifting, and inspiring State of the Union address by the President before a joint Congress. Among the House delegates were a gaggle of Democratic congresswomen dressed in white who insist they are strong, independent, capable, and worthy to lead. They stood, clapped, or sat in unison at signals from Speaker Pelosi who sat behind the President, mouthing words to some imaginary friend and moving her mouth reminiscent of someone on psychotropic drugs. (Message: I am woman -- hear me meow chasing the laser red dot.) At the conclusion of the speech she stood and ripped up her copy of the SOTU address in small packets either because she lacked strength to rip it all in one batch or for dramatic effect. To say the Democrats’ behavior was disconsonant with any message of sober adult solons is to understate it.:snip:

Rudy 'Can Prove' the Bidens and a 'Bunch of Democrats' Engaged in Ukraine Money-Laundering 'Scam

Rudy Giuliani says he "can prove" that the Biden family and a "bunch of Democrats" engaged in a money-laundering scheme and that the evidence is "with the right hands now." He wouldn't say who those people are, but it's possible it's the Department of Justice.

Guiliani called the money-laundering operation a seven-year-long "big Democratic scam."

Waving his iPad full of "smoking gun" documents, the former U.S. attorney, New York mayor, and President Trump's personal attorney told Fox Business Network's "Trish Regan: Primetime" that there was a huge  influx of cash, $7.5 billion, given to "an institution run by former Obama aides."

He quoted from Latvian documents given to Ukraine alleging that the junior Biden received $14.6 million, "laundered" through four banks and given to Hunter Biden "disguised as loans."

Trish Regan: So you think that people were actually on the take?:snip:

Baltimore ex-mayor releases apology video ahead of Thursday sentencing: ‘I really messed up’

:snip:

The former mayor, who will turn 70 on March 10, resigned last May after taking an indefinite leave of absence a month earlier, claiming health problems, as pressure mounted on her following allegations that she profited from questionable sales of large quantities of the “Healthy Holly” children’s books she authored.

She was ultimately indicted last November on 11 counts of charges that included tax evasion, conspiracy and fraud, and pleaded guilty to four charges the following day.

The collapse of Pugh’s mayoralty was another black eye for Baltimore, a crime- and poverty-plagued city that saw a previous mayor, Sheila Dixon, resign in 2010 after her conviction on embezzling gift cards intended for poor people.:snip:

Hillary Clinton took more cash from Harvey Weinstein than any other Democra

WASHINGTON — Hillary Clinton raked-in more cash from convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein than any other politician despite brushing off his donations by claiming he gave money to “every” Democrat.

Federal Election Commission filings show the disgraced movie mogul bundled $1.4 million for Clinton during her presidential bid in 2016 and handed her another $73,390 dating back to her 1999 New York Senate seat run.

On Tuesday, the former first lady defended her long relationship with the sex creep, quickly deflecting scrutiny from reporters by noting that Weinstein also raised funds for Barack Obama, John Kerry and Al Gore during their presidential bids.

“He contributed to every Democrat’s campaign,” Clinton said at screening of her new film “Hillary” at the Berlin Film Festival on Tuesday, one day after Weinstein, 67, was found guilty on rape charges.:snip:

Former Obama-era Acting IG for DHS Indicted on Scheme to Defraud U.S. Govt, Theft

A federal grand jury in the District of Columbia returned a 16-count indictment against a former Acting Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and a former subordinate for their alleged theft of proprietary software and confidential databases from the U.S. government as part of a scheme to defraud the U.S. government.

Assistant Attorney General Brian A. Benczkowski of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, U.S. Attorney Timothy J. Shea for the District of Columbia, DHS Inspector General Joseph V. Cuffari and Inspector General Tammy L. Whitcomb for the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) made the announcement.

The indictment charges Charles K. Edwards, 59, of Sandy Spring, Maryland, and Murali Yamazula Venkata, 54, of Aldie, Virginia, with conspiracy to commit theft of government property and to defraud the United States, theft of government property, wire fraud, and aggravated identity theft.  The indictment also charges Venkata with destruction of records.

According to the allegations in the indictment, from October 2014 to April 2017, Edwards, Venkata, and others executed a scheme to defraud the U.S. government by stealing confidential and proprietary software from DHS Office of Inspector General (OIG), along with sensitive government databases containing personal identifying information (PII) of DHS and USPS employees, so that Edwards’s company, Delta Business Solutions, could later sell an enhanced version of DHS-OIG’s software to the Office of Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Agriculture at a profit.  Although Edwards had left DHS-OIG in December 2013, he continued to leverage his relationship with Venkata and other DHS-OIG employees to steal the software and the sensitive government databases.:snip:
