‘A Criminal Organization Masquerading as a Political Party’

dnc-police-blotterPJMedia:

“Think of the Democratic Party as what it really is: a criminal organization masquerading as a political party,” my friend and fellow PJM columnist Michael Walsh wrote in 2009 in the guise of his leftwing alter-ego, David Kahane.

Certainly, at a minimum it’s safe to say that Democrats were rather active on the nation’s police blotters today. Since this is one narrative the MSM will never assemble (as they’re in on the fun), it’s up to the Blogosphere — so here we go.

First up, the password is Swordfish Shrimp Boy:

“BREAKING: Anti-Gun CA Senator Leland Yee Charged With Gun Running,” reports The Truth About Guns:

It what would surely place his likeness prominently on the Mt. Rushmore of hypocrisy if the allegations are proven in a court of law, famously anti-gun California state Senator Leland Yee has been charged with, in addition to bribery and public corruption…yes…gun running. Specifically conspiring with known organized crime lord Kwok Cheung “Shrimp Boy” Chow to illegally import firearms and sell them without a license . . .

The affidavit charges that the $2 million worth of weapons to have been secreted into the country from the Philippines included rocket launchers and machine guns, some of which Yee himself had fired while on Mindanao. A portion of the weapons Yee conspired to bring into the U.S. through New Jersey were to have been forwarded on to North Africa via Sicily.Scissors-32x32.png

CA DEMOCRAT'S ALLEGED ARMS TRAFFICKING SCHEME LINKED TO ISLAMIST REBELS

The 137-page, FBI-sworn affidavit against California State Sen. Leland Yee, a Democrat who is also running for Secretary of State, and over two dozen other individuals reads like a crime thriller.

Beyond the widely reported stories of alleged wire fraud, money laundering, corruption, and bribery, the affidavit contains tales of alleged murder-for-hire plots involving a political consultant close to Yee, as well as large international weapons trafficking operations.

Indeed, while the media have fixated on the hypocrisy of a gun-control advocate--Yee sponsored legislation against detachable magazines, for example--alleged involvement in gun smuggling, few reports delve into the kind of weapons with which Yee was allegedly involved.

The FBI affidavit describes conversations about shipments of automatic weapons and talk of heavier weapons, including shoulder-fired missiles and artillery.Scissors-32x32.png

MORE SLEAZY HARRY REID PAYMENTS TO GRANDDAUGHTER

Tuesday, Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid reimbursed his campaign for nearly $17,000 in payments made in late 2013 to his granddaughter for “holiday gifts.”

But new payments are surfacing bringing the total to $31,000.

One $9,064 payment in December 2012, on page 51 of in Reid's Jan. 31, 2013 Federal Election Commission filing, was made to “Ryan Elisabeth,” a jewelry brand his granddaughter, Ryan Elisabeth Reid, uses.

Reid's campaign described this payment as being for “gifts for supporters.”

Reid told the Las Vegas Sun the 2013 payments went towards “thank-you gifts” for “supporters and staff.”

But Republicans have expressed outrage that Reid paid a relative large amounts of money for vague purposes.

“It’s pretty brazen for Senator Harry Reid to funnel nearly $17,000 in campaign funds to his granddaughter for ‘holiday gifts.’ One of these days Reid will learn that Nevadans don’t appreciate him using campaign money as his personal slush fund,” Jahan Wilcox, a Republican National Committee spokesman, told Politico.

Charlotte Mayor accepted $48,000 in FBI sting

n an act akin to the plot of “American Hustle”, Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon was arrested Wednesday on charges of bribery, theft and corruption, WBTV-CLT reports.

The FBI has accused the Mayor of accepting a total of $48,000 cash from undercover FBI agents posing as developers looking to expand in the Charlotte area.

Lets step into the Time Machine and pay visit to my Congressman...The Honorable(?) Keith Ellison

(Snip)

In October 1992 Ellison publicly came to the defense of Sharif Willis, a convicted murderer and ex-convict who was now the leader of the violent Minneapolis-based Vice Lords gang. The previous month, four Vice Lord members had used Willis’s house as their headquarters for planning the murder of a local police officer named Jerry Haaf. At the trial of one of the killers, two witnesses implicated Willis in the plot. Willis himself was never charged, however, because law-enforcement authorities said they lacked sufficient evidence to convict him. Ellison helped organize a demonstration against Minneapolis police, where he denounced “the campaign of slander the police federation has been waging” against Willis. He also told the crowd that the police union was systematically trying to frighten white people in order to persuade the city to hire more officers and thereby strengthen the police union’s power base. In February 1993, while the trial of Officer Haaf’s killers was in progress, Ellison led a protesting crowd outside the courthouse in the chant: “We don't get no justice, you don't get no peace!” In February 1995 Willis was convicted in federal court for several drug and gun-related offenses, for which he was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

(Snip)

In February 2000 Ellison gave a speech at a fundraising event sponsored by the Minnesota chapter of the National Lawyers Guild, on whose steering committee he previously had served. Also in attendance was the former Weather Underground leader Bernardine Dohrn. The event was a fundraiser for onetime Symbionese Liberation Army terrorist Kathleen Soliah after her apprehension in St. Paul for the attempted murder of Los Angeles police officers in 1975. Calling for Soliah's release, Ellison referred to her as “basically … a black gang member” (though she is white) because she was purportedly a victim of government persecution. He also described Soliah as a woman who had been “fighting for freedom in the '60s and '70s.” (Soliah subsequently pled guilty to charges in Los Angeles and to an additional murder charge in Sacramento.) Further, Ellison spoke favorably of the high-profile murderers and leftist icons Mumia Abu Jamal, Assata Shakur, and Geronimo Pratt.

4 Democratic lawmakers either arrested or raided by the FBI in quick succession

Three Democratic lawmakers were either arrested or had their office raided Wednesday by the FBI.

Two of the Democrats, including Charlotte, N.C. Mayor Patrick Cannon, were charged in connection with FBI stings that caught them allegedly taking bribes from undercover agents. Coupled with an FBI raid that led to the resignation of a prominent Democratic lawmaker in Rhode Island this past weekend, four Democrats have recently come under the FBI’s radar.Scissors-32x32.png

President Romney Hounded by Media After String of High-Profile Republican Arrests

President Mitt Romney wanted to talk about his meeting with the Pope today, but instead he was besieged by a swarm of reporters shouting questions about the remarkable string of high-profile Republicans arrested by the FBI, or resigning under federal investigation, over the last few days.

"President Romney, several prominent Republicans were arrested yesterday, including the mayor of one of the nation's largest cities, on charges ranging from corruption to purchasing weapons from international terrorists," a reporter shouted from the crowd. "Does your Party have a problem?"

This was the refrain on talk shows across the land. Media analysts discussed the astounding hypocrisy of a leading Second Amendment proponent and NRA ally in Texas - whose long career in GOP politics included service as an officer in the state legislature - facing indictment for an astonishing series of charges related to his involvement in a gun-running ring. "This guy was always talking about gun safety, how he's a champion of the right to keep and bear arms for law-abiding people... and here he's raking in big bucks trying to put automatic weapons and freaking missiles in the hands of gangsters!" thundered Chris Matthews of MSNBC, immediately before suffering a stroke live on the air. Calif. state lawmaker taking leave of absence amid corruption charges
March 26, 2014 5:26PM

State Sen. Ronald Calderon (D-Montebello) is accused of 24 counts of corruption.
Calderon was arraigned Feb. 24, and entered a plea of not guilty to all of the charges. Calderon was released on a $50,000 bond guaranteed by his wife.

Calderon announced on March 2 that he requested an indefinite leave of absence, which was approved by Calif. Senate President Pro Tempore Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento). Steinberg had threatened to hold a vote to suspend Calderon if he did not resign or take a leave of absence by March 3.

According to an FBI 124-page affidavit, Calderon is accused of accepting some $100,000 in bribes from undercover FBI agents who posed as a hospital executive and a filmmaker in exchange for amending legislation. The FBI has been targeting Calderon since 2007.

A Whole Lotta Democratic Corruption Going On

Michele Malkin

Has Nancy Pelosi seen a newspaper lately? (Pro tip, hon: Like the Obamacare monstrosity, you have to read it to find out what's in it.) I'd love to see her face in the wake of the veritable epidemic of Democratic corruption now sweeping the country. Pelosi's blink count must be off the charts.

I'm going to make it easy on Pelosi and put all of the latest cases in one handy rogue's gallery reference list. But let's not be naive. It's clear to me that the Barack Obama/Eric Holder DOJ is clearing the decks before the midterms. Prediction: The FBI's GOP corruption shoe will drop right before the elections for maximum distraction and damage. For now, let's take stock of the jackassery:

—The Dirty Democratic Mayors' Club: Charlotte, N.C., Mayor Patrick Cannon, who bragged about partying with the Obamas to help grease the wheels for city projects, was arrested this week on federal corruption and influence-peddling charges. He's accused of accepting gobs of cash payoffs and Las Vegas trips.Scissors-32x32.png

The Grandfather

Another man might have assumed, correctly, that launching a campaign of insult and insinuation against two billionaires would result in renewed attention to his own finances. Not Harry Reid. The Senate Democratic leader since 2005, and the Senate majority leader since 2007, is not one to reflect before speaking. His mouth runs far ahead of his brain.

In recent years Reid has declared an American war “lost” while our troops still fought overseas; praised President Obama for his “light” skin and “no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one”; asserted falsely and without evidence that Mitt Romney had not paid any taxes for a decade; and said “Why would we want to do that?” when asked if he would fund cancer research during the government shutdown.

Now, with his majority in danger, his president unpopular, his floor agenda obstructed by members of his own caucus, Reid thrashes about uncontrollably. He calls Obamacare horror stories “untrue.” He says Obamacare numbers are not as high as projected because Americans “are not educated on how to use the Internet.” His Senate Majority PAC launches a $3 million ad campaign tying Republican candidates to two men most Americans have never heard of, two men who, funnily enough, are more popular than Reid.Scissors-32x32.png

Hypocrisy Hypocrisy

The Democrats, being still very much the party of Lyndon Baines Johnson, have never enjoyed a great reputation for integrity, but the past few days have been especially hard on them: California Democratic state senator and gun-rights foe Leland Yee was indicted as an illegal arms trafficker operating in partnership with a murder-for-hire operation headed by a Hong Kong gangster known as “Shrimp Boy”; the Democratic mayor of Charlotte, Patrick Cannon, was indicted on public-corruption charges related to local development and transit projects and to his allegedly accepting bribes in connection with a planned feminine-hygiene empire; in New York, a Democratic assemblyman’s office was raided on suspicion of misuses of travel funds; the Democratic leader of the U.S. Senate, Harry Reid, was caught channeling thousands of dollars in campaign money to his granddaughter, while omitting her surname, which is his surname, from the record.

But, so far as we know, nobody had sex with anybody.

When Republican officials or would-be officials are caught with their pants down — and their numbers have not been insignificant — it is taken as an instance of hypocrisy that undermines the GOP’s platform regarding traditional moral practices and family arrangements. There is something to that, but not as much as our pharisaical friends in the press would have us believe: For one thing, there is a difference between having a moral failing and holding political positions insincerely, an important distinction that rarely if ever enters into these discussions; and, for another thing, it’s not as if Bill Clinton ran in 1992 on a platform of sodomizing the interns and perjuring himself to cover it up.Scissors-32x32.png

Dick Smothers' character, Senator, is partly based on Nevada Senator Harry Reid, who was chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission. The scene in which Sam Rothstein is denied a license by the Nevada Gaming Commission is based on a December 1978 hearing when Harry Reid was the commission's chairman; some of Reid's statements are used in Smothers' dialogue. The scene was shot in an actual courtroom in the Clark County Courthouse, which was later closed in 2005.

A guide to Leland Yee corruption scandal: 'Shrimp Boy' to guns
By a Times staff writer
March 28, 2014

The corruption case involving State Sen. Leland Yee (D-San Francisco) has been described as one of the most colorful in recent history. Here are some key questions and answers in the legal and political drama:

What is Yee accused of doing?

An affidavit filed in federal court in San Francisco by FBI Special Agent Emmanuel V. Pascua said there was probable cause to believe that Yee had conducted wire fraud and had engaged in a conspiracy to deal firearms without a license and illegally import firearms.

The Democrats: Theyre Not a Party, Theyre a Crime Wave!

John Hinderaker

3/28/14

A lot of Democrats have been making the news lately, and not in a good way. Of course, if you are not an obsessive news junkie, you could have missed it: newspapers (to say nothing of TV network news) tend to go easy on reporting criminal behavior by Democrats. Howie Carr provides an excellent roundup:

Last Friday, it was the speaker of the Rhode Island House of Representatives, Gordon Fox, who is (technically) black and who is definitely gay. Astonishingly, given the open racial-preference policies of the Obama regime, Foxs Providence home and his State House offices were raided Friday by the FBI. He resigned Saturday. We still dont know what the G-men have on him.

Next, the mayor of Charlotte, Patrick Cannon, another Democrat. He allegedly accepted $48,000 in bribes, some of which he took at the same Capitol Grill where payoffs were earlier accepted by jailbird ex-Speaker Jim Black. Black is not to be confused with ex-Speaker Jimmy Green, who likewise went to prison, for torching his tobacco barns.

Then theres state Sen. Leland Yee of San Francisco. He used to go on Piers Morgans now-canceled CNN moonbat-fest and denounce the Second Amendment. He sent out tweets on the first anniversary of the Newtown massacre saying, Im still shocked & prepared to take steps to stop gun violence.

(Snip)

What a crime wave, in less than one week. So guess what most of the networks led with on their newscasts last night? The 5-month-old story of Gov. Chris Christies Bridgegate. Because it has one thing going for it that none of these other stories had, the only thing that matters to the corrupt American media.

Christie is a Republican.

Who is the real Leland Yee? Earnest California state senator's double life leads to 'epic swan dive'

Julia Prodis Sulek and Aaron Kinney

3/29/14

SAN FRANCISCO -- On March 5, state Sen. Leland Yee tweeted a picture of himself from City Hall's election office, raising his hand and swearing to be a faithful public servant. "I've officially filed for Secretary of State!" Yee exclaimed to his 5,646 followers.

But later that very same day in a hotel restaurant, Yee was anything but faithful. Authorities say the man who built a reputation as a champion of open government and gun control was negotiating the terms of an international gun-trafficking deal, peddling M-16-style rifles and rocket launchers to an eager buyer who was actually an undercover FBI agent.

So who is the real Leland Yee? Could a seemingly earnest public servant from San Francisco really be so duplicitous, so corrupt, so morally depraved?

(Snip)

Saying he was unhappy with his life, Yee told an agent posing as an East Coast mobster, "There's part of me that wants to be like you ... Just be a free-agent out there."

Culture of Corruption II: Scandals taint Democratic Party in tough election year

Valerie Richardson

March 30 2014

A flood of corruption scandals involving state and local Democratic Party lawmakers is threatening to muddy the partys image as it enters what was already a tough election cycle.

In a week Democrats wont soon forget, the Democrat-dominated California Senate took the unprecedented step Friday of voting 28-1 to suspend with pay three state senators in their own party accused or convicted of criminal conduct.

(Snip)

Meanwhile, Patrick Cannon, the Democratic mayor of Charlotte, N.C., resigned Wednesday after he was charged with accepting more than $48,000 in bribes during an FBI sting operation. In Rhode Island, the Democrat-led state legislature voted to replace former House Speaker Gordon Fox, who stepped down after the FBI raided his home and office.

The FBI also conducted a Wednesday raid on the offices of New York Assemblyman William Scarborough, another Democrat. Mr. Scarborough told reporters later that the raid centered on whether he had abused his state expense account.

In Illinois, federal agents Wednesday seized computers at the home and office of Democratic state Rep. Keith Farnham, who resigned March 19, citing health concerns. The Associated Press reported that the agents were searching for evidence of child pornography.
