Charges filed against Tim Kaine’s son, others who crashed MN Capitol Trump rally

Mara H. Gottfried

May 26, 2017

The chaos that some counter-protesters brought into the Minnesota Capitol in March during a rally in support of President Donald Trump included smoke bombs, Mace in people’s faces and fireworks, prosecutors said Friday as they announced charges against eight people.

Among those charged was Linwood “Woody” Kaine, a son of U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, who was Hillary Clinton’s running mate in 2016. The 24-year-old Minneapolis man is accused of fleeing police on foot and concealing his identity in a public place, both misdemeanors, and obstructing legal process, a gross misdemeanor.

After police arrested Kaine and others outside the March 4 rally, the Ramsey County and St. Paul city attorneys’ offices did not file charges. They asked law enforcement officers to continue their investigation.

A challenge for investigators was how people tried to conceal their identities: The small group that caused problems were wearing black clothing, with their faces and heads covered, and goggles — which a police official described as an indication of people who identify as anarchists.

Berniegate: How Jane Sanders Offers a Window into Liberal Scheming

:snip:

in short, the scheme concocted by the former Democratic Socialist presidential candidate's wife, Jane Sanders, when she was president of Burlington College serves up everything we've come to expect of modern Democrats: delusional visions of glorious benefits to be realized by the masses if we follow their screwball ideas; a shady real estate deal; phony and fraudulent claims used as the basis for getting other people to part with their money; alleged pressure from a powerful Democratic politician on a government-regulated institution to go along with their idea, or else; and, of course, no modern Democratic scandal is complete without a computer server potentially figuring in – in this case, a stolen one.  The only thing missing is the sex.  But the investigation is still young.
Anyway, here's the backstory.  The board of a tiny New England college in Vermont, Burlington College, in the town where Bernie Sanders used to be mayor before he rose to lofty heights in the Senate and then the socialist precincts of the national Democratic Party, had the notion of hiring Bernie's wife to be their esteemed college's new president in 2004.  What qualified her for the job?  Who knows, but I'm sure being married to the then-U.S. congressman from Vermont and the town's former mayor didn't hurt.  The mayoralty, by the way, was Bernie's first steady job.  Before that, he literally couldn't feed his family.:snip:

The Cost of Silence: How A Wealthy LA Democratic Donor Muted The Political Party of “Allies” & “Coalition Building”

Jasmyne Cannick

August 25 2017

OPINION (CBM) – The silence from L.A.’s Democratic community on the recent death of a 26-year-old Black gay male sex worker in the West Hollywood apartment of 63-year-old prominent Democratic political donor Ed Buck has been astounding.

Gemmel Moore’s July 27 death, was immediately classified as an accidental methamphetamine overdose by the coroner, but now the Sheriff’s Department is taking a closer look after his personal journal was published. Numerous young Black gay men have stepped forward making allegations against Buck recounting similar stories about a man who they say has a Tuskegee Experiment like fetish which includes shooting drugs into young Black men that he picks up off the street or via dating hookup websites.

(Snip)

And while there was no shortage of politicians in Los Angeles falling over themselves to issue statements and be seen in the media condemning the events of Charlottesville and President Trump’s response to them–locally they have seemingly looked the other way and conveniently ignored that one of their top donors might be a serial predator who gets his kicks by drugging vulnerable young Black gay men.

All that talk from Democrats about being allies and at edge of each other’s battles goes out the door and loses all credibility when in 2017, a Black gay man can die under more than suspicious circumstances and rather than acknowledge his death–everyone looks the other way because they don’t want to alienate a consistent and top-giving political donor.

The Ed Bucks of the world win when their money can literally mute an entire political party.

This is why Democrats lose and will continue to lose in 2018. We don’t practice what we preach.

NYT Writes 1300 Words About Dem Senator’s Corruption Trial Without Mentioning He’s A Democrat

The New York Times published an almost 1300-word news story in Tuesday’s paper about Democratic New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez’s corruption trial, without ever mentioning Menendez’s party affiliation.
Both in print and on social media, the NYT failed to inform its readers that Sen. Menendez is a Democrat.

“For the first time in 36 years, a sitting United States Senator is facing a federal bribery trial,” read a NYT tweet promoting the story, which was titled: “Menendez Trial Set to Begin With Tensions High and Washington Watching.:snip:

Menendez corruption case puts other Democrats at legal risk, sidelines senator for trial

As Sen. Robert Menendez prepares to face corruption charges, Republicans are confident and Democrats fearful that the taint of a weekslong trial will snare other prominent Democrats in New Jersey and Washington.

The trial kicks off Wednesday in New Jersey, where the 11-year incumbent senator is accused of using his office to try to assist and protect a longtime friend, Dr. Salomon Melgen, in disputes with the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

One high-profile Democrat already has been caught in the backwash. Former Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid, who retired last year, was fingered as trying to help Mr. Menendez in his efforts to derail a federal probe of Melgen.
“Who knows who else will be implicated, but it’s clear now that the corruption extended beyond Menendez’s office,” said Michael Ahrens, a spokesman for the Republican National Committee. “It’s just as stunning that no Senate Democrat has said Menendez should resign immediately if convicted.”
Mr. Menendez had asked the judge to allow him to skip out on the trial so he could be in Washington for upcoming votes. The judge rejected his request, saying he is no different from any other worker whose schedule is set by others but who has to be in court to face prosecutors.:snip:

MSNBC Host: Case Against Menendez ‘Doesn’t Look Close, It Looks Overwhelming’

The corruption case against Democratic New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez “looks overwhelming,” MSNBC host Ari Melber told viewers Wednesday night.
Menendez is facing a dozen corruption-related charges in connection with allegations that he wrongfully assisted a friend, Dr. Salomon Melgen, navigate government issues while Melgen attempted to get away with more than $100 million in Medicare fraud.
If Menendez is somehow acquitted despite the “overwhelming” case against him, Melber said, “you have to wonder if there’s something wrong with all of these corruption laws in the first place.”:snip:

12-Term Democratic Lawmaker 'Showed Up To Work High On Morphine,' Spent $51K On Psychic

Joseph Curl

September 22, 2017

Democratic Rep. Dawnna Dukes, a Texas lawmaker for more than 20 years who has been accused of corruption, once allegedly showed up at a House committee hearing and said she was high on morphine.

The 12-term state representative arrived late to a March House appropriations committee hearing and said: "I know I'm talking a lot. I'm full of morphine and will be headed out of here soon," according to a court filing by the Travis County district attorney's office this week, The Daily Mail reported.

The Mail said that authorities contend the Democrat "was noticeably impaired on one occasion while performing legislative duties at the Capitol."

That charge and others appear in the court filing this week. Dukes faces trial Oct. 16 on corruption charges.

Anthony Weiner, Once a Congressman, Faces Jail As a Sex Offender

Corky Siemaszko

Sept. 24 2017

Once he was an ambitious New York congressman whose fiery speech from the House floor in support of 9/11 responders made him a nationally known champion of the little guy, and whose much-publicized romance with Hillary Clinton’s glamorous aide Huma Abedin boosted his Beltway bonafides.

Now, Anthony Weiner is a sick punchline.

On Monday the fallen Brooklyn lawmaker faces yet another public humiliation — and possibly two years in prison — when he is sentenced for sexting a 15-year-old girl.

"Although the defendant’s self-destructive path from United States Congressman to felon is indisputably sad, his crime is serious and his demonstrated need for deterrence is real," prosecutors argued in their filing last week. "The noncustodial sentence that Weiner proposes is simply inadequate; his crime deserves time in prison."

As part of his plea deal, Weiner already agreed not to appeal the prosecutors' recommendation of 21 to 27 months behind bars.

From Aggressive Overtures to Sexual Assault: Harvey Weinstein’s Accusers Tell Their Stories

Since the establishment of the first studios a century ago, there have been few movie executives as dominant, or as domineering, as Harvey Weinstein. As the co-founder of the production-and-distribution companies Miramax and the Weinstein Company, he helped to reinvent the model for independent films, with movies such as “Sex, Lies, and Videotape,” “The English Patient,” “Pulp Fiction,” “The Crying Game,” “Shakespeare in Love,” and “The King’s Speech.” Beyond Hollywood, he has exercised his influence as a prolific fund-raiser for Democratic Party candidates, including Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Weinstein combined a keen eye for promising scripts, directors, and actors with a bullying, even threatening, style of doing business, inspiring both fear and gratitude. His movies have earned more than three hundred Oscar nominations, and, at the annual awards ceremonies, he has been thanked more than almost anyone else in movie history, just after Steven Spielberg and right before God.
For more than twenty years, Weinstein has also been trailed by rumors of sexual harassment and assault. This has been an open secret to many in Hollywood and beyond, but previous attempts by many publications, including The New Yorker, to investigate and publish the story over the years fell short of the demands of journalistic evidence. Too few people were willing to speak, much less allow a reporter to use their names, and Weinstein and his associates used nondisclosure agreements, monetary payoffs, and legal threats to suppress these myriad stories. Asia Argento, an Italian film actress and director, told me that she did not speak out until now––Weinstein, she told me, forcibly performed oral sex on her—because she feared that Weinstein would “crush” her. “I know he has crushed a lot of people before,” Argento said. “That’s why this story—in my case, it’s twenty years old, some of them are older—has never come out.”:snip:

DoJ: House Dem may face wire fraud, obstruction, conspiracy charges from 2012 payoff

Ed Morrissey

November 22, 2017

After an avalanche of perversion, this old-fashioned political corruption scandal might seem relatively refreshing. An FBI probe into campaign-finance corruption has circled ever closer to Rep. Bob Brady, the Pennsylvania Democrat who got served with a search warrant earlier this month.   that the Department of Justice has Brady in its targets over a scheme to pay off a fellow Democrat to get him out of a primary — a scheme that already has one man pleading guilty to corruption:

(Snip)

Can prosecutors win a conviction on such charges? After the mistrial in the Robert Menendez case, the DoJ has to know that a hometown jury will need a smoking gun to win at trial. Candidates at all levels routinely make deals with rivals to cover debts in exchange for their endorsement after they withdraw, but no one looks too closely at the timing. Charges that fall solely on that agreement probably won’t stick. If Brady and his team conspired to cover up the source of the funds through wire fraud and misrepresentation and then lied about it to investigators, though, that’s a different kettle of fish. The DoJ should have no problem prosecuting that kind of case, although they’ll need to put Brady into the transactions as an active participant to win against him.

It will be a tense holiday weekend for Brady. At least he can take some comfort in the fact that his colleagues will rally around him as they did with Menendez. Corruption-based scandals seem quaint these days, no?

Ex-Florida Democratic Rep. Corrine Brown sentenced for mail, wire and tax fraud involving sham charityFormer Florida Democratic Congresswoman Corrine Brown was sentenced on Monday to five years in prison for mail, wire and tax fraud involving a sham charity.
A jury convicted Brown of stealing money from a bogus charity, One Door For Education, which purported to give scholarships to poor children.
Federal prosecutors said she ran for office as a leader of democracy while stealing money and working to cover it up. Prosecutors said she and a top aide commited fraud by using donations for lavish parties and trips.
The aide and another official accepted a plea deal and testified against Brown, who served in Congress for nearly 25 years.
She was convicted in May on 18 of 22 charges. :snip:
