Video: Meet Vets who moved water-filled barriers to get to Iwo Jima Memorial

William A. Jacobson

Saturday, October 5, 2013

As Daniel Halper has reported, the Iwo Jima Memorial joins the list of monuments needlessly barricaded by the Obama administration, but that did not stop a group of veterans from removing the barricades to visit today.

We have located the group of 64 Honor Flight Vets, and they are from Syracuse, NY. Their trip was paid for, in part, by money raised by Syracuse University students.

GEORGE WILL: The president is rather enjoying this. And if the emblematic statement of the first Obama term was 'a crisis is a terrible thing to waste,' this term, defined after just 9 months is 'a crisis is a beautiful thing to create.' To understand his behavior in early October, you have to understand the disaster in September, when he suffered two huge obstructions, both involving core presidential powers. The power to use appointment and the power to use military force. And he suffered both at the hands of Democratic senators. He wanted Larry Summers to head the Fed, the most appointment he'll make in the second term. A Democratic Senator stopped him. He wanted the power to threaten or wage a strike against Syria. Democratic Senators disproportionately stopped that. So he needed to change the subject and this has helped him do it.

An open letter to President Obama

Dear President Obama,

Scissors-32x32.png

Excellent! I would love to post this on Facebook, but I have vowed to stay away from all political issues there.

I decided I had to post it on Facebook, @nickydog. It will totally offend one niece, one nephew and many of my cousins. Tough beans. I am appalled at what is going on and I decided to brave the storm.

VIDEO: COPS - National Park Service: Government Shutdown Edition

http://www.ijreview.com/2013/10/84600-video-cops-national-park-service-government-shutdown-edition/

During the glorious government shutdown of 2013, the National Park Service Police were the first defense against society collapsing under the onslaught of tourists and World War II veterans overwhelming the Barry-cades at our most precious national monuments.

These are their stories.

I am SHOCKED to see George Will on FoxNews. What is this world coming to? Oh, I know, abandoning the Obama sinking, lame duck ship.

I think money might have had something to do with it.

Something else you'll notice...the make up of the panel...two from the left...two from the right. As opposed to what we normally see on these talking head shows 3-4 form the left 1 from the right.

I agree with the money part. On FoxNews Sunday they always have 2 and 2. But having George Will on Fox is surprising because I consider him to be a basic RHINO. He is quite intelligent and very well spoken, but in many instances have doubted his stance as an involved conservative.

Lake Mead property owners forced out until shutdown ends

http://www.ktnv.com/news/local/226557661.html?lc=Smart

//Video at Site//

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The government shutdown is being felt close to home for some locals. They say they're being forced out of private homes on Lake Mead because they sit on federal land.

Joyce Spencer is 77-years-old and her husband Ralph is 80. They've been spending most of their time in the family ice cream store since going home isn't an option.

The Spencers never expected to be forced out of their Lake Mead home, which they've owned since the 70s, but on Thursday, a park ranger said they had 24 hours to get out.

Million Vet March And Truckers Ride On Washington October 13 http://nicedeb.wordpress.com/2013/10/05/million-vet-march-and-truckers-ride-on-washington-october-13/

October, 5, 2013 — nicedeb

This could be big. This could end up being very, very big because two protests have been planned for the same weekend in Washington DC. On October 13, the Million Vet march will coincide with day 3 of the truckers ride in our nation’s Capital.

There has been righteous indignation and rage simmering just below the surface since the Community Organizer from Chicago began usurping his power, but this past week, his thugocracy went too far. When Obama’s shutdown theater was implemented to make Americans – including 80 to 90 year old WWII vets – feel as much pain as possible – that simmering rage reached a full boil.

While most of the nation’s attention has been on the “barrycaded” WWII Memorial, other war memorials in DC have been shut down as well. Yesterday, Park Police removed Vietnam vets and tourists from the Memorial Wall.

Via Gateway Pundit: ”Unbelievable! Barack Obama brought out the German Shepherds today to threaten US veterans at the Vietnam Memorial.”

1. Sources please.

2. I propose doing away with that term (RINO), as it has come to mean a. I disagree with them, b. they are to the Left of me.

There have been many times I've disagreed with him pretty strongly (Iraq comes to mind) but a RINO! Come on now.

Song of the National Park Service

to the tune of This Land Is Your Land

Mark Steyn

This land is our land, it sure aint your land

From downtown DC to the Lake Mead shoreland

From the Arctic Refuge to the Gulf Stream waters

This land is closed to you and yours

So dont go cruisin that endless Skyline

And quit your fishin, put down that fly line

Dont pay respects to your countrys war heroes

Their land is closed to you and yours

Dont even look at that view of Rushmore

Dont volunteer now, you need to hush more

Dont even think of parking near George Washingtons

This land is closed to you and yours

This land is our land, it sure aint your land

From Cuyahoga to the old Claude Moore land

From the Blue Ridge Mountains to the yellow police tape

Red lines are made for you, not Assad.

I am the source, of course as I stated ("I consider him to be..."). I have read, watched and listened to George Will for years and years. (This Week with David Brinkley, Cokie Roberts and George Stephanopoulos and his work at National Review, Washington Post and Newsweek.) From these I formed my own opinion of him. What are your sources which lead you to believe he is not a RINO?

Yes, he was a Regan fan, fine. But his attacks against George W. Bush were IMO, not all necessary nor constructive, and certainly did nothing to help the "Republican"/conservative cause. He also had nothing good to say about McCain (well, neither did I--but I'm not a columnist), and Sarah Palin. He was especially harsh with Newt Gingrich, some of which was well deserved. But what good did his criticism do for anyone in the long run, unless it was the democrats?

More recently he himself has admitted his leanings of late are more toward libertarian. Is this a sin? Does this make him a RINO? Well, to me it certainly adds to my opinion of him as such.

I cannot go along with being a Libertarian Republican because of the many Libertarian stances taken which I firmly disagree with, e.g. foreign policy, age of consent, allowing pornography, etc. Freedom of everything goes too far!

My strong desire is for CONSERVATIVES to get together to rid us of socialism, liberalism, Obamaism--whatever you want to call it--and get this nation back to being a cohesive republic upholding the United States constitution. This will not happen if we keep bickering among ourselves and pointing out to ourselves and the world the faults within conservative organizations. I believe this divisiveness is especially apparent when someone like George Will--respected, talented, national "conservative" media pundit--is, uh, mouthing off.

PS: I do not wish to imply I believe Regan, Bush, McCain or Palin, or their organizations/administrations, were infallible. Each had policies I disagreed with.

I think the problem is, when I see RINO I think of people like Lincoln Chafee, David Brooks. Never really put Libertarians in the group of Liberal Republicans. The thing is IMO way too many people use that term way too often, until it has become meaningless or at least meaning someone who is to the Left of me, This persons a RINO because they said this voted for that. If you know what I mean.

I have real serious problems with Libertarians particularly foreign affairs, someone should tell Ron Paul and others that it is not the 17th century anymore, and even the 17th century was not the way they imagine it.

Do Taxpayers Want to Pay For Those Shut Down Government Services?

Mises Daily:Saturday, October 05, 2013 by Ryan McMaken

There is a common assumption among politicians that voters want a lot of government services, but don’t want to pay for them. It’s certainly true that taxpayers don’t like paying taxes, and this is demonstrated in the fact that the federal government runs a deficit virtually every single year. If the taxpayers didn’t mind paying the full cost of government, the feds would be able to collect enough in revenue to pay the bills. As it is, the political realities of public opposition to taxation drive the feds to resort to deficit spending to cover their costs. Scissors-32x32.png

I would like to offer a modest proposal, giving us a chance to see precisely how vital to our survival and prosperity is the Leviathan federal government, and how much we are truly willing to pay for its care and feeding. Let us try a great social experiment: for one year, one exhilarating jubilee year, we furlough, without pay, the Internal Revenue Service and the rest of the revenue-gathering functions of the Department of Treasury.

That is, for one year, suspend all federal taxes and float no public debt, either newly incurred or even for payment of existing interest or principal. And then let us see how much the American public is willing to kick into, purely voluntarily, the public till.

We make these voluntary contributions strictly anonymous, so that there will be no incentive for individuals and institutions to collect brownie-points from the feds for current voluntary giving. We allow no carryover of funds or surplus, so that any federal spending for the year — including the piteous importuning of Americans for funds — takes place strictly out of next year’s revenue.

It will then be fascinating to see how much the American public is truly willing to pay, how much it thinks the federal government is really worth Scissors-32x32.png

Obamacare or the Debt Ceiling

By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | October 7th, 2013 at 12:20 AM |

Republicans are winning the shutdown fight, and Democrats know it.

People turning on the news this week came away with the knowledge that it was about Obamacare and kept hearing that Democrats wouldn’t negotiate. They also learned that for some reason the President didn’t want Word War II veterans to tour their own memorial, and Harry Reid won’t turn the funding on for cancer clinical trials at the NIH. Oh, and the rollout for Obamacare is one big glitch.

Late yesterday came word that the Amber Alert system has been shut down, but Barack Obama’s federally funded golf course remains open. Catholics are openly fretting that priests on military bases could get arrested for performing mass — at the very least they are prohibited from doing so. Scissors-32x32.png

Regardless, the only path to victory in this shutdown is to keep our fire on Obamacare and our focus on the defunding effort. We can still undermine Obamacare, but we need to resist the attempt to merge this with the debt limit and hold the line on the continuing resolution. Otherwise we will lose on both.Scissors-32x32.png
