Draggingtree
#BlameHarryReidPosted by William A. Jacobson Monday, September 30, 2013 at 8:30am For a government shutdown if it happens. The U.S. Senate is dysfunctional because of Harry Reid. No budget. No votes on most House legislation. No nothing except his way or the highway. We’re seeing it again in the Continuing Resolution and Debt Ceiling battles. Because Reid has shut down and shut out Republican voices, the only way to raise budget issues is using Continuing Resolution and Debt Ceiling deadlines — a necessity in Harry Reid’s Senate not the choice Republicans wanted. The poisoning of our politics by Reid did not start with the latest battles, it has been his methodology for years. http://youtu.be/niPmXym7u3g http://youtu.be/xOEqttGAoTA http://legalinsurrection.com/2013/09/blameharryreid/

Draggingtree
Compromise In Politics? No, Confront Among the pearls of wisdom conveyed in Ecclesiastes is that everything has its time. Written By : Star ParkerSeptember 30, 2013 “A time to be born … a time to die, a time to plant … a time to uproot, a time for war … a time for peace.” The founders of the United States drew up a Constitution to serve as an operating manual, in its checks and balances, for peaceful, deliberative government. They understood human nature and set up a system in which competing interests would have to give in. Compromise, they understood, is a necessary lubricant for the wheels of government “of the people, by the people, and for the people” to turn and allow us to move forward. But compromise is meant for those competing interests — not for the core principles of the country that the Constitution exists to protect and secure. When the principles of our free nation under God are under siege, it is a time for confrontation, not compromise. http://www.rightwingnews.com/column-2/compromise-in-politics-no-confront/

WestVirginiaRebel
UNIONS WILL DEMAND BACK PAY IF GOVERNMENT SHUTS DOWN Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) said he believes government employees should get back pay and, since many may be living "paycheck to paycheck," he asserted, “We as a Congress need to be more sensitive to their needs.” Union officials estimate roughly 800,000 workers will be furloughed as "non-essential" employees in the event of a government shutdown and will demand retroactive pay because the furloughs would "add insult to injury for workers who have been living under a pay freeze for three years." “We are trying to maintain pressure on this White House that in the event of a government shutdown, that any negotiated settlement includes an agreement that all federal employees — essential and non-essential alike — get paid when the government reopens,” Matt Biggs, legislative director for the International Federation of Professional & Technical Engineers (IFPTE), told The Hill. NCTexan
Which one of these was the one we didn't recover from? @Casino67 Actually it was The Great Shutdown of Thursday, October 13, 1977. I woke up that Thursday morning with an idea for an invention that would have changed the world... and made me insanely famous and rich. Unfortunately while the patent office was closed that day... I forgot the details of my invention. Now I'm not famous nor rich... but am insane with little hope of recovery.

WestVirginiaRebel
Video: CNN anchor not handling this shutdown thing very well MARK HALPERIN: Here what’s the White House and to some extent the Hill is going to monitor. One is how the press covers the shutdown and does it just go back into the ’90s mode of saying obstructionist Republicans are causing a shutdown and people, real people are hurting? And the White House is assuming that’s going to happen. Then they’re going to watch the polls and see whether it’s not just partisan. Whether by the end of the week there are surveys that show public/private, that people are blaming Republicans and that that’s going to put pressure on Boehner to come to the floor and either force his — some members of his own conference beyond the handful who will never be with him on this to have a compromise. So they don’t have to capitulate on the floor. They don’t let Nancy Pelosi dictate what gets passed. So the White House does not have much incentive. Because they think–they think–those trends are going to go in their direction by the end of the week or early next week at the latest because again, the press is largely sympathetic to their arguments on this that it’s the House Republicans’ fault. Casino67
Maybe better than waking up in the morning and having to chew your arm off to get out and go home. Train Runs Over Couple Having Sex on Tracksby Jon David Kahn 30 Sep 2013, 8:28 AM PDT MOSCOW (RIA Novosti) - Local police say a middle-aged couple in central Ukraine was run over by a switcher locomotive while having sex on the tracks. According to the country's Interior Ministry, the woman died at the location while the man was hospitalized after losing both his legs. The victims' names were not released, but it was reported that the man was 41 and the woman appeared to by thirtysomething. The ministry cited the surviving victim, who said that he and his girlfriend “failed to overcome their natural passion when walking home… and wanted to experience an extreme sensation near the railroad tracks.” http://www.breitbart.com/InstaBlog/2013/09/30/Train-Runs-Over-Couple-Having-Sex-on-Tracks

SrWoodchuck
Here's a prime example of the difference between the two political parties....that should be [but won't] be highlighted during the "shut-down" budget & debt ceiling increase...... DNC Broke, Owes Creditors $18.5 Million… http://weaselzippers.us/2013/09/30/dnc-broke-owes-creditors-18-5-million/ CNN: http://finance.fortune.cnn.com/2013/09/30/dnc-debt-crisis/?iid=SF_F_River As the government nears shutdown, the fundraising arm of the Democratic Party is having a budget crisis of its own. FORTUNE -- There's another budget crisis in Washington, and it's unfolding inside the Democratic party. The Democratic National Committee remains so deeply in the hole from spending in the last election that it is struggling to pay its own vendors. It is a highly unusual state of affairs for a national party -- especially one that can deploy the President as its fundraiser-in-chief -- and it speaks to the quiet but serious organizational problems the party has yet to address since the last election, obscured in part by the much messier spectacle of GOP infighting. The Democrats' numbers speak for themselves: Through August, 10 months after helping President Obama secure a second term, the DNC owed its various creditors a total of $18.1 million, compared to the $12.5 million cash cushion the Republican National Committee is holding. Several executives at firms that contract to provide services to the party -- speaking anonymously to avoid antagonizing what remains an important if troubled client -- describe an organization playing for time as they raise alarms about past-due bills falling further behind. And senior strategists close to the DNC say they worry the organization appears to have no road map back to solvency. "They really thought they could get this money raised by the summer," one said, "but the fact is, from talking to people over there, they have no real plan for how to solve this." DNC national press secretary Michael Czin says the committee is working with vendors on a case-by-case basis to pay down their tabs. And filings show the organization over the last five months has made $4.5 million in payments to the Amalgamated Bank and appears to be hewing to a $1 million-per-month installment schedule now. "While we work to retire our debt, we're not taking our foot off the pedal and are making the investments that will help ensure that Democrats are successful in 2014, 2016, and beyond," Czin said. Don't think any shutdown was the disaster the media and Dems are trying to foist on the general public about this one-----this potential one, at the moment. Do you have a link for this? And the reason for the shutdowns? Also why were they all Republicans fault. From this link: http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/past-us-government-shutdowns-havent-caused-the-stock-market-to-melt-down/2013/09/28/53982ad0-2852-11e3-8ab3-b5aacc9e1165_story.html During Ronald Reagan’s presidency from 1981 to 1989, shutdowns were a fairly regular occurrence and the government faced a funding shortfall on eight occasions. However, none of those lasted more than three days and many of them occurred over a weekend. Because stocks don’t trade over the weekend and the shutdowns were brief, investors had little reaction back then. When shutdowns are prolonged and federal employees are out of work for weeks, the effect on the market is usually more negative. Under the Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter administrations, when the government was shut down for 10 days or more, the average decline for the stock market was more than 3 percent during closures. But in the last major pair of shutdowns, from November 1995 to January 1996, the stock market actually rose.
