Questions now being taken. A.P. is first. (He has a list).

the 0 pontificates:

"good discussion last night". Putin gets credit for holding a good discussion. Unanimous agreement that chemical weapons were banned for a reason and the international community has to take them seriously. Putin disagrees with him that Assad regime used the gas.

the 0's view is that the UN and Security Council action are NOT needed. Security of the world requires action from the international "para;yzed" community or the "norms will start unraveling".

Over 1400 people gassed. 400 children. He was elected to end wars and he has tried for the last 4 i/2 years trying to reduce use of military actions in order to protect the world and the U.S. but comes a time to stand up for what we believe.

Do these "norms mean something"? are we not doing anything but inaction why are we not doing something? The international community says why is the U.S. the most powerful nation on earth not doing something.?

He and Putin are very straight forward. Now with new evidence - may be Putin will be proved wrong about Assad using the gas. So they must work together. We have 4 million misplaced people. We may not have complete solution but when children are involved we must do something - even if the international community is not up for boots on ground.

New reporter - even some Democrats not supporting you . How do you answer them and suppose gas is used again?

the 0 - I have a pretty good idea what public response will be. Suspicion and even stronger in his party because of experience with Iraq. Prism of analysis for many. Must make their case. "People worried abt slippery slope and limited response" In time and scope can be "limited and proportional" but meaningful and a strong deterent.

American people must understand the scope of his actions - limited.

Will he strike if House says no?

He can't speculate. "I did not put this before Congress as a political point or symbolism" I could not say honestly that we (U.S.) are at danger or at risk immediately. Must have serious debates because these "kinds of national security threats" are whats in the future - terror attacks, failed states, chemical attacks etc etc etc the international community will ask why is the U.S. not acting? Its tough because the world looks at us and asks to bear responsibility.

Chuck Todd:

more Kerry talks, more townhall opposition grows. Report that says "you have asked for expanded list of targets"

the 0:

Report inaccurate. Some military official's report he will not answer to.

He expected opposition. But its right thing to do. More united going forward. Some politics involved. But he understands American people's concerns but proliferation of chemical weapons goes on and body pictures are forgotten and all move on.

Sense of urgency because people cannot expect to get away with using chemical weapons. American people must understand before he "takes action".

Why should when 96% of an allies response is negative. Will you go ahead with attacking Syria if voted no?

He will not answer. No parlor games. Talking substantively to Congress and American people. He may not persuade most of people or Congress but they must ultimately vote for what is right for America? Right thing to do is what counts. blathers on about Libya and helping the British not popular but right thing to do. Kosovo same. Uranda (Rwanda?) would not have polled well.

The 0 wants to know that gassing children/kids is not something we do. We must stand up against that and for principal.

No ideas have been presented that would be more effective so

Major G. asks if military action only action?

the 0 pontificates. Many strong messages have been sent . Rather than hold line we have seen what happened. Generals under his (assad) command not towing the line.

Last question -

"met with Brazil and Mexico leaders about NSA questions. The U.S has an intelligence agency to gather non public source info - similar to other countries around the world but we are big and he has said that because technology is expanding so rapidly we have to stand back and reevaluate the gathering of info - useful or more constraint. He told them - Brazil and Mexico - that he would look into matters farther because he "does not subscribe to all those newspapers"

The last thing "I will say" that there are reasons why I went to Brazil etc. Now we get a lecture on Brazil going from totalitairan to Democracy. We will work through all this blah, blah.

United States Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power to discuss the Assad regime’s use of chemical weapons against Syrian civilians and the need for an international response on Friday, September 6, from the Center for American Progress in Washington, DC.

Could be interesting to hear what she has to say about the Syrian mess. Should be starting momentarily.

All she did was read the talking points given her by the WH. Wasn't worth the effort.

The New York Times/CBS News poll showed that though just 1 in 4 Americans believe that the United States has a responsibility to intervene in the Syrian conflict, more than 90 percent of the public is convinced that putting all 535 representatives of the United States Congress on the ground in Syria—including Senate pro tempore Patrick Leahy, House Speaker John Boehner, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, and, in fact, all current members of the House and Senate—is the best course of action at this time.

KRUGMAN: OBAMANOMICS “AN ASTONISHING, HORRIFYING FAILURE”

Better late than never, I suppose: Paul Krugman now says that the five years of the Obama administration have been “years of tragic waste,” and that the nation’s economic policies during that time have been “an astonishing, horrifying failure.” One wonders: what took Krugman so long to figure that out?

The Week in Pictures: Baracks Big Syrian Adventure Edition

Steven Hayward

9/7/13

Oh where to begin? Obama clearly doesnt have his heart in it. His fecklessness makes comparisons to Stanley Baldwin and Neville Chamberlain an insultto Baldwin and Chamberlain. And how much fun is it to watch John Global Test Kerry flunk his own global test? Its almost enough to make someone believe in Karma, which has quite plainly run over liberal Dogma about the international community.

Awesome: 14 principled anti-war celebrities we fear may have been kidnapped

Joshua Riddle

September 8, 2013

One of the most classic lists Ive ever seen from Buzzfeed: Our government is yet again marching us towards a war of choice in the Middle East and our non-partisan, peace-loving celebrities have gone missing since late 2008. We fear the worst.

1. Sheryl Cow....I mean Crone...no Crow

enhanced-buzz-3689-1378483475-7.jpg

"I think war is based in greed and there are huge karmic retributions that will follow. I think war is never the answer to solving any problems. The best way to solve problems is to not have enemies."

Sheryl Crow

The lights are on, but nobodies home!

Rep. Peter King to Seek White House

snip

The news that King is running follows previous statements by King that he was considering a run for the presidency, but the new statement is finally definitive. King said the reason he is making his run is that he wants the GOP to eschew isolationist views on foreign policy, which he accused Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) of endorsing.
