Asia Bibi Stands Firm in Her Faith

By Matthew Clarkyesterday

A committed Christian. A mother of five. A loving wife. A servant of all. But will she also be a martyr? That’s Asia Bibi . She’s been sentenced to death by hanging under Pakistan’s Shariah blasphemy law. She was targeted as a member of the sole Christian family in her small Pakistani village. She...

Christian Set to Hang for Blasphemy

By David Frenchyesterday

Pakistan is a perennial recipient of billions of U.S. taxpayer dollars . It’s an occasional ally/frequent enemy, sometimes actively conspiring against U.S. interests, sometimes actually firing on U.S. troops (incidents so notorious they now have their own Wikipedia page ), and — of course — it’s...

ISIS Snuffs Out Ancient Christianity

In Egypt, a young Coptic Christian man, accused of blaspheming Islam for simply "liking" an Arabic-language Facebook page, was sentenced to six years in prison.

One of the intruders in Uganda was shouting, "Today we shall kill you [for converting to Christianity] -- you... are not respecting our prophet's religion." He then heard his 12-year-old-girl's cries as the Muslim intruders were strangling her. Then they seized him.

Muslims in Germany were granted their own section of the cemetery. Now these same Islamic communities are demanding that, during Islamic funerals, Christian symbols and crosses in the cemetery be removed or covered up.

During the Islamic State's June invasion and consolidation of Mosul, Iraq -- where Christians have been present since the first century -- countless atrocities against them were committed. Accordingly, the region is now reportedly empty of Christian presence.

The Islamic State, among other acts, reinstituted the collection of jizya, the "tribute" conquered Christians (and Jews) were historically required to pay in order not to be killed in accordance with the Koran (9:29).

In one instance, three Islamic State members burst into the home of a Christian family, demanding the jizya-money. When the father of the house pleaded that he did not have the money, the intruders raped his wife and daughter in front of him. The man was reportedly so traumatized that he committed suicide. Four other Christian women were killed for not wearing the Islamic veil.Scissors-32x32.png

"We Need Your Head": Muslim Persecution of Christians, July 2014

"The United States did not come out to say anything about Boko Haram. They kept talking about economic problem. That is not true... The United States deliberately ignored the fundamental issues of religious ideology." — Nicholas Okoh, Primate, Church of Nigeria

A judge in Iran sentenced a Christian man to have his lips burnt with a cigarette for eating during the day in the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

A church member added that members of the Muslim group had said they wanted to transform Uganda into am Islamic nation and would kill anyone who refused to convert.

The purge of ancient Christian communities throughout Iraq that started in June culminated in great intolerance in July.

Among other Islamic attacks, a Christian church that had stood Iraq for 1,800 years -- a church that was erected less than 200 years after Christ -- was reportedly torched by the Islamic State, according to countless news agencies, including Al Arabiya.Scissors-32x32.png

Pakistan Arrests 44 for Burning Christians Alive in Kiln
11/6/14

SLAMABAD, Pakistan — Pakistan's prime minister vowed to show "no mercy" to the members of a mob that burned a Christian couple alive in an industrial kiln, as the number of villagers arrested in connection with the crime reached 44. Shahbaz Maseeh, 26, and his wife Shama Bibi, 24, were attacked by colleagues on Tuesday at the brick factory where they worked in Punjab province after word got out that Bibi had burned several verses from the Quran left behind by her dead father. The mob reportedly broke Bibi and Maseeh's legs so they couldn't run away and then threw them in an industrial kiln.

Setting fire to Quranic text is considered blasphemy in Pakistan. While technically punishable by death under strict Islamic law, it is more common for vigilante mobs to take matters into their own hands. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said in a statement Thursday that "no mercy" will be shown in punishing those responsible for the "unacceptable" crime. "A responsible state cannot tolerate mob rule and public lynching with impunity," Sharif said. "The Pakistani state has to act proactively to protect its minorities from violence and injustice."

Christians "Losing Everything" to Islam

This week in Pakistan, a pregnant Christian mother of four and her husband, falsely accused of burning pages of the Koran, were beaten by a Muslim mob and thrown into a kiln, a fiery oven at a brick factory, where they were roasted alive.

Over 200 Christian girls in Nigeria were captured by Boko Haram. "I abducted your girls, said its leader, Abubakar Shekau in May; "By Allah I will sell them in the marketplace" as slaves.

"I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things"—Philippians 3:8

When St. Paul wrote the above in his letter to the Christians of Philippi, he and the early church were being persecuted (Paul was eventually executed in Rome). While today's Western Christians still quote his words in reference to their daily sacrifices, an increasing number of Christians around the world, especially the Muslim world, are indeed still losing absolutely everything for their faith.

In Uganda, in just a decade, matters have gone from bad to worse to murderous. The situation of Hassan Muwanguzi, for instance, a Muslim convert to Christianity — whose initial sacrifices are recorded in Crucified Again: Exposing Islam's New War on Christians (page 131) — far from abating, have only gotten worse.

After he had earned a university degree in Islamic law and then, in 2003, when he was in his early 20s, converted to Christianity, his family immediately threw him out of their home. "Enraged Muslims" beat him. Later that same year, his wife left him and he lost his job as a teacher at Nankodo Islamic School, near Pallisa.

Those events were was just the beginning. Picking up the pieces of his life and moving on, he eventually opened a Christian school, Grace International Nursery and Primary School, near Muslim-majority Mbale. Since then, Hassan said, "The Muslims have tried to use all kinds of threats to make me close the school — first they used witchcraft. This did not work, so then they tried to discourage Muslims from bringing their children to the school. They said that the school was converting Muslim children to Christianity by teaching Christian Religious Education."Scissors-32x32.png

Jabhat al-Nusra blows up Armenian church in Deir el-Zour: A savage blow that echoes through Armenian history

In the most savage act of vandalism against Syria’s Christians, Islamists have blown up the great Armenian church in Deir el-Zour, built in dedication to the one and a half million Armenians slaughtered by the Turks during the 1915 genocide. All of the church archives, dating back to 1841 and containing thousands of documents on the Armenian holocaust, were burned to ashes, while the bones of hundreds of genocide victims, packed into the church’s crypt in memory of the mass killings 99 years ago, were thrown into the street beside the ruins.

This act of sacrilege will cause huge pain among the Armenians scattered across the world – as well as in the rump state of Armenia which emerged after the 1914-1918 war, not least because many hundreds of thousands of victims died in death camps around the very same city of Deir el-Zour. Jabhat al-Nusra rebels appear to have been the culprits this time, but since many Syrians believe that the group has received arms from Turkey, the destruction will be regarded by many Armenians as a further stage in their historical annihilation by the descendants of those who perpetrated the genocide 99 years ago.Scissors-32x32.png

Pakistani Islamists burn Christian couple alive.

The Islamic Republic of Pakistan appears to be vying with a few other nations (also Islamic) for the title of most egregious human rights violator in the world. Much of the evil perpetrated is the fault of the country’s blasphemy laws, part of Pakistan’s Penal Code, that have victimized both Christians and Muslims. The long, drawn-out persecution and oppression of Pakistani Christian mother of five, Asia Bibi, sentenced to die under those egregious laws is just business as usual for Pakistan. But the November 4, 2014 torture and burning to death of a young Christian couple near Lahore has been called “the worst religiously-motivated hate crime in Pakistan’s history.”

That is saying something, in a nation where Christians are commonly treated like second-class citizens – if not animals, where mobs of extremists have attacked Christian villages forcing the residents to flee or die, and where the small minority of courageous Muslims who stand up for Christians also become victims of the enraged. But it is hard to imagine anything more horrific than the murder of Sajjad Masih and his pregnant wife, Shama Bibi, the parents of four children. Accused of “desecrating the Koran,” the couple was held in a room next to the brick kiln where they were bonded laborers while the local mosques worked up the usual suspects, some accounts say 2,000, some say as many as 4,000. The Muslim mob dragged the couple outside, beat them, broke their legs so they could not get away, and threw them – still alive – into the kiln’s furnace.Scissors-32x32.png

Christian Extermination in the Middle East

The purge of ancient Christian communities throughout Iraq that started in June culminated in a show of great intolerance in July.

Among other things, a Christian church that had stood on the ground of Iraq for 1,800 years—a church that was erected less than 200 year after Christ—was reportedly torched by the Islamic State, according to numerous news agencies, including Al Arabiya.

Islamic State jihadis also stormed and took over an ancient monastery in northern Iraq and expelled its few monks, telling them “You have no place here anymore, you have to leave immediately.” The monks plead to be allowed to save some of the monastery’s ancient relics but the jihadis refused and ordered them to walk many miles along a deserted road with nothing but their clothes. (St. Behnam monastery had stood since the fourth century and was one of Iraq’s best-known Christian landmarks. It was built by an Assyrian king as a penance for executing his children Behnam and Sarah for converting to Christianity.)Scissors-32x32.png

Muslim Mob Burns Christian Couple Alive

Written by Selwyn Duke

Sajjad Maseeh and Shama Bibi were expecting their fifth child. But that baby will never enter this world, nor will the couple’s four other children ever see their parents again. This is because, this past Tuesday, a Muslim mob in Pakistan’s Punjab Province burned the Christian couple alive in an industrial kiln, leaving nothing remaining but charred bones and the victims’ discarded shoes.

The couple’s alleged “crime,” if you want to call it that, was desecration of the Koran. The problems started approximately two weeks ago after the death of Maseeh’s father, a local religious healer. As Bibi cleaned out the departed’s room, she removed certain items from an old trunk and discarded and burned the rest. A garbage man collected the trash the next day, claimed that pages from the Koran were among it, and informed a local cleric.

And so rumors spread about the “blasphemous” couple. At this point the Christians decided to flee, but were prevented from doing so by Yousaf Gujjar, owner of the brick factory in which Maseeh worked. Claiming the couple owed him money, Gujjar and a dozen accomplices seized them from their home and locked them in a factory office. Scissors-32x32.png

Counter-Terrorism: The Problem No One Wants to Talk About

November 12, 2014:

The widely publicized atrocities of Islamic terrorists in Syria and Iraq has put Moslem intolerance in the news once again. But its not just in the Middle East where this is going on. This sort of murderous intolerance occurs anywhere there are large Moslem populations. Pakistan, for example, has recorded more than 4,900 deaths attributed to religious intolerance in the last 25 years. These include violence against different forms of Islam (usually Shia) as well as against Christians, Hindus, Sikhs, Jews and others. Most of these 4,900 Pakistani deaths have occurred since September 11, 2001. Religion based violence has been on the increase there starting in the 1970s when the Pakistani government basically legalized a lot of it. Since 2001 there have been over 20,000 terrorism related deaths in Pakistan, nearly all of the victims were other Moslems that Islamic terrorists accused of not being Islamic enough and thus, according to their murderous logic, not Moslems at all and deserving of death. Yet most of these deaths are not classified as resulting from religious intolerance. There is a widespread tendency by Moslems and non-Moslems alike to downplay the religious basis for Islamic terrorism. Why that is so is hard to say. Apparently its partly due to political correctness, the self-image most Moslems prefer to use and billions spent by oil-rich Arab states over several decades to support this worldview in the UN and international media.

This flawed view of Islamic terrorism has lots of nasty side effects. Take, for example, the growing anti-Christian violence among Moslems. Christians in countries with Moslem majorities, or large minorities, are having a difficult time getting the rest of the world to recognize that most (as in about 80 percent) of the religious violence (not counting Islamic terrorism) in the world is carried out against Christians and most of the violence is committed by Moslems. This is because the Islamic world, while unable to do much in terms of economic, scientific, or cultural progress, or even govern themselves effectively, have proven quite adept at convincing leaders and media organizations in the West that Islam is not the aggressor and is actually the victim. For those who have spent any time living among Moslems, this all seems absurd. But this delusion is real among many Moslems.

The effort to eliminate the religion angle when it comes to Islamic terrorism is also present in the United States. For example, its official policy in the U.S. military to eliminate any mention of a war between Islam and the West. This policy is enforced despite the fact that Islam, at least according to many Moslems, is definitely at war with the West. The U.S. has officially maintained this illusion since shortly after September 11, 2001, despite the fact that many Islamic clerics and government officials in Moslem nations, openly and frequently agree with the "Islam is at war with the West" idea. But many Western leaders prefer to believe that by insisting that such hostile religious attitudes are not widespread in Moslem countries, the hostility will diminish. To that end the U.S. government has, for years, been removing any reference to "Islam" and "terrorism" in official documents. This comes as a shock to military or civilian personnel who have spent time in Moslem countries. The "Islam is at war with the West" angle is alive and well among Moslems and when you look at media in Moslem countries it is all pretty explicit.

ISIS Destroy Convent in Mosul

http://www.indcatholicnews.com/

[2014-11-25 20:47 GMT]

Yesterday, jihadi militants of the Islamic State, who control the city of Mosul, used explosives to severely damage the convent of the Chaldean Sisters of the Sacred Heart - one of 45 Christian institutions they have captured since June. Previously they were living in the building.

Chaldean sources report that the explosion took place in two phases. The first attempt was unsuccessful, but then the jihadists used more powerful explosives, causing massive damage to the convent, with the intent to eliminate the cross that stands on the place of worship.

Before beginning the destruction, IS warned local inhabitants. Sources suggest the monastery was abandoned because it may have been considered an imminent target of air raids by the US-led anti-Caliphate coalition.

So far the adjacent monastery of St George, belonging to the order of St.Anthony Sant'Ormisda of the Chaldeans has not been damaged.

The convent of the Chaldean Sisters of the Sacred Heart, known as the Convent of Victory was built thanks to a donation of Saddam Hussein, the Iraqi President executed on December 30, 2006.

Since taking over Mosul on June 10, Aina News report that ISIS has destroyed, occupied, converted to mosques, converted to ISIS headquarters or shuttered all 45 Christian institutions in Mosul.

Al-Shabaab Vows to Be ‘Ruthless Against Disbelievers’ as U.S. ‘Barely Recognizes’ Christian Eradication in Iraq

As quarry workers slept early Tuesday morning in tents by their worksite outside Mandera, a Kenyan border city tucked between Ethiopia and Somalia, Al-Shabaab gunmen attacked.

The Muslims were reportedly separated from the non-Muslims, who were then murdered by gunshots at close range or beheading. Thirty-six men were killed.

The Kenyan government said Tuesday that there was no proof Al-Shabaab was exclusively targeting the Christians.

“We cannot say the Christians are the ones mostly targeted because even in the past, Muslims have been killed, and as we talk, everyone is worried,” North Eastern Regional Police Commander Patrick Lumumba said, according to Kenya’s Daily Nation newspaper. “The terrorists have no tribe or religion. The people can rest assured that these attacks are not directed at any certain tribe or religion.”

But Al-Shabaab’s media arm posted a statement saying the attack on Christian “crusaders” was in response to Kenya’s “occupation of Muslim lands” and “ongoing atrocities” toward Muslims in Somalia “as well as the continued suffering of Muslims in Mombasa.”

“As Kenya persists in its occupation of Muslim lands, kills innocent Muslims, transgresses upon their sanctities and throws them into prisons, we, Harakat Al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen, will persist to defend our land and our people from their aggression,” said Al-Shabaab spokesman Sheikh Ali Mohamud Rage. “We are uncompromising in our beliefs, relentless in our pursuit, ruthless against the disbelievers and we will do whatever necessary to defend our Muslim brethren suffering from Kenya’s aggression.”

National Security Council spokeswoman Bernadette Meehan condemned the attacks “targeting innocent civilians.”Scissors-32x32.png

WH Fails to Mention Victims in Kenya Terror Attack Were Christians

We extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the at least 38 individuals killed yesterday,” the White House said in a statement condemning the recent terrorist attacks in Kenya by the Islamist militant group al-Shabaab. “The United States will continue to support Kenya and our regional partners in combating terrorism and violent extremism and protecting human rights.”

The statement is missing one glaring detail, however: Those killed were mainly Christians who were singled out and separated from their fellow Muslim workers.

As a reminder of what happened:

Islamic militant group al-Shabaab has killed 36 non-Muslim quarry workers, mainly Christians, after separating them from Muslims at a camp in Kenya. The attack, 10 miles from the town of Mandera, was reportedly carried out in retaliation for the Kenyan army's presence and anti-terror operations in Somalia.

"The militia separated the Muslims, then ordered the non-Muslims to lie down where they shot them on the head at close range," said Hassan Duba, an elder at a nearby village, according toReuters.

By the statement, one would have no idea religion played any role in the terrorist attack--both the victims' religion and the perpetrators'. And it's not as though this is an isolated attack. Al-Shabaab has made it clear they want to drive Christians ("crusaders") out “from Muslim lands” and a spokesman for the terrorist group said as much about the recent attack.Scissors-32x32.png

ISIS Reportedly Beheads Four Christian Children in Iraq for Refusing to Convert to Islam

By: Matthew Clark (Diary) | December 8th, 2014 at 03:12 PM

The Christian “Vicar of Baghdad,” the Rev. Canon Andrew White, recounted that ISIS jihadists recently beheaded four Christian children.

As the Christian Post reports:

“ISIS turned up and they said to the children, ‘you say the words that you will follow Muhammad.’ The Children, all under 15, four of them, they said, ‘no, we love Yasua [Jesus]. We have always loved Yasua. We have always followed Yasua. Yasua has always been with us.'” White said. “[The Militants] said, ‘say the words!’ [The Children] said, ‘no, we can’t do that.’ They chopped all their heads off. Scissors-32x32.png

Raping and Beheading the Faithful

This is the third church in Muslim-majority East Jerusalem to be forced shut in recent years.

"You think all men are equal... Islam does not say that all men are equal. Your values are not their values. If you do not understand this soon enough, you will become victims of the enemy you have welcomed into our home." — Archbishop Amel Shimoun, Exiled Chaldean Catholic Archbishop of Mosul, Iraq.

As usual, after filing a complaint about a gang rape with the local police, her family received threats of more violence. "In Pakistan, rape is used as an instrument of arbitrary power over Christian girls... It is a form of violence that wants to reiterate the submission to Muslims. The rest of society is not outraged because the victims mostly belong to religious minorities. Rarely rapists are punished." — Sardar Mushtaq Gill, lawyer, Pakistan.

American Pastor Saeed Abedini's young children have submitted a video to President Barack Obama pleading with him to being their father safely home from Iranian prison. "Now we understand that ISIS members in the prison have said that he is their number one target."

Around 45 churches in Mosul... were destroyed and converted into mosques.

Muslims beheading Christians was a visibly growing spectacle throughout the month of August. Islamic State [iS] militants cut off a Christian man's head—after compelling him to say the shehada, the Islamic profession of faith, "There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is his messenger." When the shehada is spoken before Muslim witnesses, the speaker becomes Muslim and thus, in theory, safeguards his life and possessions from the jihad. Not so for this hapless man, who, after renouncing his Christian faith for Islam, was still slaughtered on camera.
