Anybody remember seeing a story about Malia Obama going to spring break in Mexico? With 25 Secret Service agents? Showed up in several MSM publications? Try to find it now. Story scrubbed from internet. 1984 is here?

Huh. I saw it earlier today on Yahoo! news. They usually post from AP.

Malia in Mexico story vanishing from the Web

Have you heard that Malia Obama, the president’s daughter, is reportedly spending her spring break in Oaxaca, Mexico?

Allegedly, she’s jetting off with some of her classmates and 25 Secret Service agents to a country that the State Department has said all Americans should avoid. But something is different about the latest “Obama vacation controversy:” references to it are disappearing from the Internet — and fast.

Around 3:00 p.m. EST, a Telegraph story reporting on the event was the first to vanish.

All the juicy tales.....the 25 Secret Servants Service men.....the 3 armored trucks in a special Air Force plane, culled from the military....the closing of the surrounding areas, so that Malia & friends can romp in safety.....all from our beautiful, but broken.....58th state [Mexico!]

On Iraq War Anniversary, First Lady Solicits Veterans to Campaign

Devin Dwyer

3/19/12

First lady Michelle Obama, whose advocacy for veterans and their families has defined her tenure in the White House, is now appealing to the constituency for political support for a second Obama term.

In a new campaign web video pegged to the one year anniversary of the start of the Iraq War, Obama touts her husband’s “promises kept” to veterans and solicits new members to the group “Veterans and Military Families for Obama,” which is tasked with mobilizing voters and collecting campaign cash.

“Nine years later, we remember those who gave their lives and honor the sacrifice of all the brave women and men who served our country,” Obama says. “In 2008, Barack made a promise that as president he would bring the Iraq war to a responsible end. He kept his word.”

For some reason, every time I go through one of those naked scanner machines it shows I have something in my knee. Last week in Denver the TSA agent was stroking me knee like it was Aladdin's lamp. I don't really care. It's kind of funny actually. I had one agent ask me if I had been shot. When I told her no, she asked me if I was sure. I'm pretty sure I'd remember something like that.

@Rokke, I think that @nickydog should give you a rosary to pray. No one will bother you if you pray a decade or two of Hail Marys.

Ha. God already hears a lot from me during my travels. Mostly good stuff. I'd be in deep trouble without his help and we both know it.

Yes, I saw it...but didn't click on it. Now the link to it on Drudge is dead. So you're not losing your mind...it's just gone.

Edited to add: Oh...I should have read on. That is really, really creepy.

@Valin!!

My wife and I were at the hospital visiting her dad today and we saw a bumper sticker on a car that said "Veterans for Obama"!! I told my wife, "There can't be more than two or three in that group!" I guess there must be more.

Obviously, you've both got skills & talent......since a controlled crash is still considered a good landing [in the right circles]

Whoa! How on earth did I miss this? For the life of me, I thought her tenure in the White House has been defined by her "Let's move" campaign, futzing with school lunch menus and taking vacations. I guess I just haven't been paying attention. Or that is what they are hoping.

My "GasBuddy" app on my Android phone tells me the least expensive gas in the Madison, WI area is going for $3.79/gal.

And for Valin: If you remember the financial crisis and long lines at gas stations that occured when gas went from $0.39/gal to $1.00/gal within two days, you're definitely and old fart.

Nope. But the WH has now admitted they asked the reports be taken off the internet.

The Hill

The spring break trip became the focus of media attention on Tuesday, after a number of outlets reported on Malia’s whereabouts, but later took the reports offline.

The White House says it requested the stories be taken down to protect Malia’s privacy while she is not with her parents.

Part of the First Family going to Mexico on vacation, and people think this is not a big deal? (OK I grant you it's not the end of the world as we know it)

Issues

A. A 14 year old going on spring break? 14, you're just at the start of the insane period of life..remember what life was like at 14?

B. Mexico? You do know there is a full scare war going on there right? So her going there is by definition a security problem. So in order to address these (well founded) security issues means affecting and inconveniencing (and putting at risk) other people vacationing in the area. But hey its the Presidents daughter so they should be glad to have their vacations disturbed.

C. Given the number of vacations these folks have taken and where they go, as I said nothing about this should come as any kind of surprise. For me it speaks to how they view the office.

I don't blame Miss Malia in the slightest for this. In fact, I have no problem with keeping it quiet while she is out of the country because honestly, she is at risk. BUT, this is outrageous on the part of her parents. In a time when most of us can not take our children fifty miles for a short shopping spree...sending your child away like this knowing full well how much it costs the country is teaching your children the entitled, let them eat cake attitude that is embodied in her parents. It's disgusting. Honestly, gross and horrific excess on the backs of others.

If I was in the White House, the decision for our family would be to stay in the country, find a community project somewhere that we could work on without causing extra disruption...kick the press out and get the job done together. End of story. And not only that, I would cut down significantly on the extravagance of non-state dinners and parties. You can have elegant, unique meals without being as 3000 calorie and expensive wine glutton-fests as they have been.

It all makes me feel queasy. He is a "public servant" for crying out loud--a tad bit of modesty and class would be appreciated.

That's that whole lack of modesty thing. The left is rife with hubris.

David Corn has hissy fit

He was spotted in the Barnes & Noble at Union Station throwing a fit because his new book — his fifth — fitting called Showdown: The Inside Story of How Obama Fought Back Against Boehner, Cantor, and the Tea Party out today didn’t have its own display. He was overheard yelling at the manager that “every paper in America” was going to be talking about his book today and yet nobody could find it there.

The manager explained that corporate tells him what books get displays and that the order did not call for that. Corn maintained that the bookstore wasn’t well run and stormed out in a huff.

“It was a scene,” our spy tells us.

Corn, who is usually very amiable, explained to FishbowlDC what happened. He admitted he was “agitated” but said he did not “lose his temper” with either the Nook salesman out front or the manager in back. “Agitated? Yes. Losing my temper? No. I was exasperated.” Corn said he was upset that this is the only bookseller left on Capitol Hill and that his book was not prominently displayed, as he’d been promised.

“It could just be this bookstore didn’t get the memo,” he surmised. “People are walking by. This is the day you want them to see the cover. You don’t know what it means the day your book comes out and your book is not prominently displayed.”

Our spy said the manager kept his cool. “Manager was awesome. Totally calm. Looked up the order for him to confirm no display. Actually, he acted as if he gets a bunch of jerks coming in there with similar demands. Washington!”
