Chinese state-run news reports last week predicted that the United States and Israel are preparing for a surprise attack on Iran's nuclear facilities.

The Zhongguo Qingnian Bao Online, organ of the Communist Party Youth League, reported Sept. 16 that the U.S. withdrawal from Iraq is a sign of the coming Iranian attack.

“The U.S. military's withdrawal from Iraq foreshadows a surprise attack on Iran,” the report stated.

The report stated that the U.S. has led a campaign of international sanctions that has weakened Iran substantially in preparation for the attack. It also stated that Washington is also supporting the Iranian political opposition and has conducted a strategic encirclement of Iran with military bases in Afghanistan, Iraq, Turkey, Qatar, Oman, and the Island of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.

Frequent visits to the region by aircraft carrier strike groups “already constitute an advance deployment for a military strike on Iran,” the report said.

U.S. missile defenses also have been deployed to the region, on both land and aboard Aegis ships, to respond to anticipated Iranian missile strikes.

The report said regional instability and conflict will ensue from the attack, notably the disruption of oil supplies.
