Washington Examiner:

'Don't Ask Don't Tell' becomes battleground in defense bill

Senate Democrats Monday were scrambling to come up with enough votes to block a GOP filibuster of a bill that would repeal the policy prohibiting gays from serving openly in the military.

The measure that would end the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" law is attached to the $726 billion defense authorization bill that is scheduled for a critical test vote Tuesday afternoon. The legislation is essential for setting the Pentagon's spending levels for next year, but it may stall, according to a top senator.

Republicans have blasted the "Don't Ask" provision along with two other controversial amendments Democrats want to include in the bill -- one that would provide a path to citizenship for children who came to the United States illegally, and another that would allow abortions in U.S. military hospitals.

"I don't know if the votes are there," Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin, D-Mich., admitted to reporters Monday. "I hope they are."snip

The RATS are trying everything they can to ram hardcore liberal things on their Christmas(or Kwanzaa) wishlist down our throats before November. Mitch McConnell better keep Brown, Snowe and Collins on a tight leash until January.

I don't know enough about the law to know this, but if this bill is passed with the taxpayer paid abortions in military hospitals, is this setting a precedent? A lot of people (at least half of taxpayers) have a problem with their tax money being used for this purpose.

This is the first article that I have seen mention how the people in the military feel about Don't ask Don't tell. I hate how the Democrats feel that they have the right to tell people what they should and shouldn't like. This could affect enlistment rates since it does involve sharing barracks with openly gay men and women. Everything always has consequences which the Democrats never bother to think about.

Just heard a few minutes ago on FNC that the GOP, along with a few RATS, successfully filibustered the bill in the Senate, and Harry Reid and Dick Durbin are having a hissy fit. Seems they both tried to imitate 'The Chosen One' and go for the dictatorial way of "Hope and Change" without allowing any debate on the Senate floor.

Congratulations! It just blew up in your faces! B)

The Senate has voted against starting debate on a bill that would repeal the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy.

Failed to get the sixty votes needed. The Dims came up four short of the sixty. Harry needs to get some smarts and remove DADT and the DREAM act from the defense bill.

True, true. It seems as though Harry just keeps providing fodder for Angle to beat him over the head. Stunts like this are a sure winner........for Angle.
