Seattle PI:

President Obama will visit the Puget Sound area next month to talk about the economy and headline a fundraiser for Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., an administration ally locked in what she describes as a close reelection race.

A White House spokesman would not give a date, but Murray campaign spokeswoman Julie Edwards indicated the visit will be August 17.

It will be the first Washington trip of Obama's presidency. As a candidate, he filled Key Arena on the eve of Washington's 2008 presidential caucuses, in which Obama swamped Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Obama came twice in 2006 to boost colleague Sen. Maria Cantwell, and held a rock
concert fund raiser in October of 2007.

The president has made repeated visits to Nevada to boost embattled Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and was recently in California to do big ticket events for Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif.

Murray, Reid and Boxer have emerged as major Republican targets in the 2010 mid-term elections. It was disclosed Tuesday that the National Republican Senatorial Committee is mounting a $500,000 anti-Murray TV barrage, on top of a $750,000 media blitz earlier this month by an "independent" group with Republican ties.

Vice President Joe Biden came to the state for a Murray breakfast on the eve of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

The Obama administration has relentlessly promoted its Stimulus package in Washington state.

A $2 billion chunk of Stimulus money is being spent to speed completion of a plant to treat high-level nuclear waste at Hanford; $55 million has gone to help remove two aged, salmon-destroying dams on the Elwha River, one located in Olympic National Park.

King County has received more than $1 billion in stimulus dollars, money going for such projects as weatherization of homes in low-income Seattle neighborhoods and monitoring of energy use at the University of Washington.

The state's unemployment rate currently stands at 8.9 percent, down slightly from spring and lower than the national average.

Democratic presidents have carried Washington in six consecutive presidential elections. The Dems hold the governorship, both of Washington's Senate seats, and majorities in the Legislature.

Obama does have a bit of a jinx to overcome.

President Bill Clinton made two late-campaign forays into Washington in the 1994 mid-term elections.

But six Democrat-held U.S. House seats flipped to the Republicans, and GOP Sen. Slade Gorton won his biggest-ever reelection victory. New Gingrich described Washington as "ground zero of the Republican Revolution" that captured Congress.

I am happy to see the 0 going out to campaign for his lib buddies. What is his record for getting them elected? 0 for ??. May the Kisser of Death travel far and wide across this country.

I like the new anti-Patty ad, and hope to see more. This one is from the American Action Network (see article below).

OLYMPIA, Wash. - Democratic incumbent Sen. Patty Murray is the target of a new statewide TV ad calling into question her "mom in tennis shoes" status.

American Action Network, a Washington, D.C.-based group, launched the ad on its website and it begins airing Tuesday.

The 30-second ad shows an unidentified woman wearing dirty sneakers walking on the backs of three people who are meant to represent small business, families, and children.

Murray faces several candidates in Washington's top two primary on Aug. 17, including Dino Rossi, a two-time gubernatorial runner-up. Also in the primary is former Washington Redskins player Clint Didier, a Republican endorsed by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

The group's website says it is a nonprofit group that supports "center-right" policies."

Oh wait. She's never ever gotten my vote. Can I have another so I can take it away from her?
