The Hill:

Jane Fonda helps out Sen. Boxer
By Darren Goode - 07/24/10 11:00 AM ET

Actress and liberal activist Jane Fonda is joining Sen. Barbara Boxer Saturday at a fundraiser to help the California Democrat’s reelection and local Republicans are scrambling to do a last-minute protest.

The Republican Party of Los Angeles County sent out an urgent email Saturday morning asking supporters to gather for a protest that afternoon outside Boxer’s fundraiser along the famed Sunset Boulevard.

The 6 p.m. fundraiser called "Keep Change Alive" is also hosted by actors Tobey Maguire and Alyssa Milano. Fonda announced on her Facebook and Twitter accounts that she would be there to support Boxer.

“Events during this campaign season are going to move quickly,” according to the email sent from Gary Aminoff, first vice chairman of the local GOP affiliate. “We need to be able to respond quickly."

Aminoff asks protesters to bring American flags “and spend an hour or so letting Barbara ‘Don’t call me Ma’am’ Boxer know that she has some real opposition this year.”

He is referring to Boxer’s scolding of Brigadier General Michael Walsh at a hearing in June of last year to respect her senatorial status.

“You know, do me a favor, could you say senator instead of ma’am?” she asked Walsh, after he had been referring to male members of her Environment and Public Works panel as “sir” and had just referred to Boxer as “ma’am.” Walsh quickly obliged but conservative activists have had a field day targeting Boxer’s request ever since.

Aminoff dutifully ties together Boxer’s interpretation of the proper respect shown by military brass to Fonda’s status as one of the more well-known celebrity protesters of the Vietnam War.

“Let’s let Barbara and ‘Hanoi Jane’ know it is time for Boxer to retire,” urges Aminoff.

A recent Field Poll showed Boxer with a narrow lead, 47 percent to 44 percent, over Republican challenger Carly Fiorina. While this is a slight gain since March for Boxer, the poll also showed disapproval of her job performance has gone up this year.

I think she really needs a visit from Urkel to 'seal the deal'. He is so good at encouraging voters to support his candidates.

Boxer has been in office for 17 years. She is not part of "change", but a member of the status quo.
