WestVirginiaRebel
UK Daily Mail:Prince Charles yesterday urged the world to follow Islamic 'spiritual principles' in order to protect the environment. In an hour-long speech, the heir to the throne argued that man's destruction of the world was contrary to the scriptures of all religions - but particularly those of Islam. He said the current 'division' between man and nature had been caused not just by industrialisation, but also by our attitude to the environment - which goes against the grain of 'sacred traditions'.Charles, who is a practising Christian and will become the head of the Church of England when he succeeds to the throne, spoke in depth about his own study of the Koran which, he said, tells its followers that there is 'no separation between man and nature' and says we must always live within our environment's limits. The prince was speaking to an audience of scholars at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies - which attempts to encourage a better understanding of the culture and civilisation of the religion. His speech, merging religion with his other favourite subject, the environment, marked the 25th anniversary of the organisation, of which he is patron. He added: 'The inconvenient truth is that we share this planet with the rest of creation for a very good reason - and that is, we cannot exist on our own without the intricately balanced web of life around us.'Islam has always taught this and to ignore that lesson is to default on our contract with creation.'________Lord help England if he ever gets the throne. Al_Simmons
I dearly hope that Britain's answer to Alfred E. Neumann is 'skipped over' in the Royal Succession. And if the Queen lives nearly as long as her Queen Mum did, it just might happen. Naturally.

Sanguine
This is so stupid it's scary. How can this guy be this tone-deaf, ignorant, misguided, etc.? I simply don't see how someone who has been on the world stage his whole life could be this stupid and wrong.

nickydog
Plus he is totally out of touch. Talk about living in a bubble....he has no clue what normal life is. This was one of the things Princess Diana was trying to show her boys, as much as it was possible.
NCTexan
Prince Charles yesterday urged the world to follow Islamic 'spiritual principles' in order to protect the environment. Say what? wiki Marsh Arabs During the 1970s, the expansion of irrigation projects had begun to disrupt the flow of water to the marshes. However, after the First Gulf War (1991), the Iraqi government aggressively revived a program to divert the flow of the Tigris River and the Euphrates River away from the marshes in retribution for a failed Shia uprising. This was done primarily to eliminate the food source(s) of the Marsh Arabs and to prevent any remaining militiamen from taking refuge in the marshes, the Badr Brigades and other militias having used them as cover. The plan, which was accompanied by a series of propaganda articles by the Iraqi regime directed against the Ma'dan, systematically converted the wetlands into a desert, forcing the residents out of their settlements in the region. Villages in the marshes were attacked and burnt down and there were reports of the water being deliberately poisoned.

But of course, NCTexan, you will recall that the plight of the Marsh Arabs (now largely resolved by the destruction of Saddam's dike system that dried up the area), was caused not by adherence to any "Islamic religious principles", but was an act of repression against opponents taken by a secular dictator whose idol was Joseph Stalin and whose regime structure was built based upon Nazi principles.) No doubt examples of Islamic eco-disasters abound, but this was not one of them. Chalk it up to basic totalitarianism instead. You're welcome. NCTexan
Al_Simmons! You got me there. I grabbed an extreme example of "Eco-terrorism" from a predominately Muslim state. I figured that Saddam wasn't an "Ordained Islamic Country Preacher" and he did have a couple of secular habits.
