reminder-the-united-nations-is-run-by-a-bunch-of-depraved-totalitarians-villanous-barbarians-and-anti-semitic-scumThe Federalist:

The United Nations (UNESCO, to be specific) recently adopted an anti-Israel resolution that disregarded the Jewish connection to the faith’s two holiest sites, the Temple Mount and Western Wall. The motion was supported by 24 nations, including Russia and China. Only six countries opposed it.

Now, the UN is too impotent to make history, much less redraft it. Still, it’s never a waste of time to remind people of its long record of empowering cheerleaders and perpetrators of violence against Jews.

It’s not merely that UN organizations like the “human rights commission” or UNESCO are often led by Islamic supremacists, but that the majority of first-world nations have — with few exceptions, like the United States and the United Kingdom — been enablers of anti-Semitism for over 50 years.

This new motion, which claims freedom of worship has been curtailed by “escalating aggressions and illegal measures,” was submitted by the Palestinians and backed by various other twelfth-century strongholds like Morocco (where it’s illegal to possess a Bible written in Arabic), Algeria (where Muslim women cannot marry non-Muslim men and insulting Muhammad is punishable by death), Iran (with restrictions too long to list), Pakistan (where the death penalty or life in prison is mandated for apostasy), and Sudan (where converting to Christianity is punishable by death.)Scissors-32x32.png

TIME TO PUT THE UNITED NATIONS OUT OF BUSINESS?

What, exactly, is the U.N. good for? Hundreds of thousands have been slaughtered in Syria, and no one looks to the U.N. for a solution, just as no one expects the U.N. to do anything about ISIS or al Qaeda. Wars have raged in Congo and across much of Africa, and the U.N. has done little but embroil itself in an unending series of sexual exploitation scandals. The Middle East has been in turmoil for years, from Libya to Afghanistan, and what contribution has the U.N. made? None. So the organization’s grandiose claims to be a force for world peace are hollow.

If the U.N. is useless with regard to actual international crises, what does it do? No doubt there are U.N. agencies here and there that do some good, although the cost of the larger organization is likely far greater than what it would take to fund the groups that are actually useful. More often than not, it seems that the U.N. is on the side of evil, as in the current UNESCO controversy.

Many of the member nations of the U.N. are engaged in a long-term project to delegitimize Israel, with the object of turning that country over to the surrounding Arabs and, presumably, driving out or killing the Jews who now live there. The latest phase of this effort is a proposed UNESCO resolution that attacks Israel on various grounds–nothing new there–and, most notably, implicitly denies the connection between Jews and Temple Mount, or Jerusalem.Scissors-32x32.png

UN chief rejects UNESCO resolution on Temple Mount

'Al-Haram al-Sharif, the sacred shrine of Muslims, is also the Har HaBayit—or Temple Mount—whose Western Wall is the holiest place in Judaism,' says Ban Ki-moon.

Ynetnews

16.10.16

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon distanced himself on Sunday from a recent UNESCO resolution which failed to acknowledge the ties between the Jewish people and the Temple Mount.

Israel suspended its cooperation with the United Nation Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), claiming the draft resolution it adopted on Thursday denies the deep, historic Jewish connection to the holy sites in Jerusalem. The resolution refers to the holiest site in Judaism—the Temple Mount—only by its Muslim name—Al-Haram Al Sharif.

"The Secretary-General reaffirms the importance of the Old City of Jerusalem and its Walls for the three monotheistic religions and stresses the importance of the religious and historical link of the Jewish, Muslim and Christian peoples to the holy site," said a statement read by the UN Spokesperson on behalf of Ban.

The UN Commissars of Climate Change

It is one of the stock hypocrisies of United Nations climate careerists, that while deploring carbon-emitting travel by everyone else, they have turned the UN into a prodigious generator of long, lavish and frequent "climate-change" conferences, held in enticing or exotic locales worldwide -- in places such as Bali, Rio, Cancun and Paris.

From around the globe, participants board airliners (many of their tickets subsidized by your tax dollars) and carbon-emit their way to the next jamboree. From these grand climate shindigs, UN officials emerge to promise that if we'll just trust them to allocate a couple of things of ever-expanding scope -- for instance, the wealth of the developed world and the energy flows of the planet -- they will aim over the next century or so to fine-tune the temperature of the earth to within a few decimal points of where it was on Al Gore's 60th birthday...or something like that.

It's the kind of performance that needs a skeptical eye, and full access by an independent press. It should be cause for great alarm when the conference authorities start walling out any reporters they suspect might dissent from UN climate doctrine.Scissors-32x32.png

Socialist, Refugee Advocate to Run UN for Next 5 Years

While it’s hardly the election to get the most attention this year, the United Nations General Assembly has confirmed a nominee with a background in socialist politics and refugee matters to be the organization’s new secretary-general.

The 193-member United Nations General Assembly approved Antonio Guterres, a socialist whom President Barack Obama called a man of “character, vision, and skills” in a statement five days before speaking with him on the phone.

Guterres replaces U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who served two five-year terms and is stepping down from the position on Dec. 31.

Obama said in his statement that the new secretary-general would be instrumental in dealing with “unprecedented challenges” facing the world, including the surge of millions of displaced people and climate change.Scissors-32x32.png

Obama: Don't Destroy the Peace Process by Turning it Over to the U.N. -- Alan Dershowitz

The Obama Administration is sending strong signals that once the election is over it may make a major push to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict at the United Nations. Despite repeated invitations by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Palestinian Authority President Abbas to meet without preconditions, the stalemate persists. Some blame it on Palestinian unwillingness to recognize Israel as the nation state of the Jewish People and to compromise to the so-called "right of return." Others — including the current U.S. Administration — lay the blame largely at the feet of the Netanyahu government for continuing to build in the West Bank, most recently approval of between 98 and 300 new homes in Shiloh. Whatever the reasons – and they are complex and multifaceted — President Obama should resist any temptation, during his final weeks in office, to change longstanding American policy — that only direct negotiations between the parties will achieve a lasting peace.

In particular, Obama should veto an expected French resolution in the Security Council establishing an international peace conference under the auspices of the U.N. The general parameters of the French resolution would likely call for:

"Borders based on the 1967 Lines with agreed equivalent land swaps; security arrangements preserving the sovereignty of the Palestinian State and guaranteeing the security of Israel; a fair, equitable, and negotiated solution to the refugee problem; an arrangement making Jerusalem the capital of both states."Scissors-32x32.png

The United Nations: Making a Mockery of Human Rights

The "rise of populism" has become an absorbing subject for political commentators in the West, yet as the Cato Institute scholar, Alberto Mingardi, helpfully observes, the term is "as slippery as it is popular."

Perhaps the most noteworthy feature of this current political trend is why we are struck by it. The nations of the West are, after all, democracies: systems of government designed to translate popular concerns into legislative instruments.

An answer to this dysfunction might lie in the layers of transnational governance, which proliferated after the Second World War, superseding national, and by implication democratically-accountable, decision making.

The horrendous carnage that ripped the world apart in the middle of the last century led to a principled decision by the world's leaders to promote the formulation, and then ratification, of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Today, the most senior transnational body responsible for preserving such rights, the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), housed within the Palace of Nations in Geneva, is arguably a pathetic joke.Scissors-32x32.png

NIKKI HALEY PUTS UN ANTI-ISRAELISM IN CROSSHAIRS

The Trump administration’s U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, has hit the ground running. She spoke truth to power by strongly calling out the United Nations for its anti-Israel bias and double standards. Her predecessor, Samantha Power, never came close.

After attending her first regular meeting of the UN Security Council devoted to the Middle East, including the Palestinian-Israeli situation, Ambassador Haley remarked to reporters, “The first thing I want to do is talk about what we just saw in there.” Calling the meeting “a bit strange,” Ambassador Haley noted how the focus of blame for everything that has gone wrong in the Middle East seemed to be placed almost entirely on Israel.

“The discussion was not about Hezbollah’s illegal build-up of rockets in Lebanon,” Ambassador Haley said. “It was not about the money and weapons Iran provides to terrorists. It was not about how we defeat ISIS. It was not about how we hold Bashar al-Assad accountable for the slaughter of hundreds and thousands of civilians. No, instead, the meeting focused on criticizing Israel, the one true democracy in the Middle East. I am new around here, but I understand that’s how the Council has operated, month after month, for decades. I am here to underscore the ironclad support of the United States for Israel. I’m here to emphasize the United States is determined to stand up to the UN’s anti-Israel bias.”Scissors-32x32.png

Truth, Terror and Nikki Haley's Challenge at the UN

Claudia Rossett

Bravo yet again to Nikki Haley, America's new ambassador to the United Nations. Speaking at an informal meeting of the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, Haley called out Iran as a state sponsor of terrorism, saying:

The United States will not hesitate to stand against the forces of terrorism, and that includes standing against the states that sponsor it, in particular the Islamic Republic of Iran.

This follows Haley's refreshingly direct comments last week to the press -- aptly praised by the New York Sun under the headline "Haley's Comet" -- in which Haley denounced the UN's obsessive attacks on the democratic state of Israel. In those remarks, Haley lambasted the UN's "double standards" as "breathtaking," and threw in a mention of Iran as "the world's number-one state sponsor of terror." Here's an excerpt:

Incredibly, the UN Department of Political Affairs has an entire division devoted to Palestinian affairs. Imagine that. There is no division devoted to illegal missile launches from North Korea. There is no division devoted to the world’s number one state-sponsor of terror, Iran. The prejudiced approach to Israeli-Palestinian issues does the peace process no favors. And it bears no relationship to the reality of the world around us.Scissors-32x32.png

U.N. Me is available now on DVD!

About the film:

When the United Nations was founded more than 60 years ago, it embodied our hope for a safer, more peaceful world. But as reports of human rights violations and international conflicts make daily headlines a question arises: Is the United Nations living up to its founding ideals?

In a film that exposes the incompetence and corruption at the heart of the United Nations, filmmaker Ami Horowitz takes us on a harrowing, yet often hilarious, trip through the farcical world of the United Nations.

Horowitz exposes how an organization created to ennoble mankind actually enables chaos and global discord. As disturbing as the picture painted by U.N. Me may be, Horowitz manages to keep us laughing throughout the film. And just when you're left shaking your head at one outrage or another exposed in U.N. Me, Horowitz reliably enters with comic relief.

Trump Administration Said to Be Mulling Withdrawal From UN Human Rights Council

(CNSNews.com) – The U.N. Human Rights Council opens a regular four-week session on Monday, amid reports that the Trump administration is considering withdrawing from a body which its predecessor chose to embrace despite acknowledging its many flaws.

Citing unnamed “sources in regular contact with former and current U.S. officials,” Politico reported Saturday that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s office had initiated a series of requests suggesting “that he is questioning the value of the U.S. belonging to the Human Rights Council.”

Queries sent to the U.S. mission in Geneva brought no response by press time.

President Trump has made no secret of his disdain for the U.N., and U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley questioned the council’s worth at her confirmation hearing last month.Scissors-32x32.png

UN Human Rights Chief: Trump Trying to ‘Intimidate or Undermine’ Journalists and Judges

(CNSNews.com) – In fresh criticism of President Trump, the top United Nations human rights official on Wednesday condemned the “vilification of entire groups such as Mexicans and Muslims” in the U.S. and accused the president of trying to “intimidate or undermine journalists and judges.”

Presenting his annual report to the Human Rights Council in Geneva, U.N. Human Rights Commissioner Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein said he was “concerned by the new administration’s handling of a number of human rights issues.”

“Greater and more consistent leadership is needed to address the recent surge in discrimination, anti-Semitism, and violence against ethnic and religious minorities,” he said. “Vilification of entire groups such as Mexicans and Muslims, and false claims that migrants commit more crimes than U.S. citizens, are harmful and fuel xenophobic abuses.”

Zeid said he was “dismayed at attempts by the president to intimidate or undermine journalists and judges.”Scissors-32x32.png

UN Tourism Boss Blasts Trump’s Travel Ban, Praises Iran

CNSNews.com) – The head of a United Nations agency that promotes tourism has joined a chorus of criticism directed at President Trump’s travel executive order, calling it an “ill-conceived” action that will lead not to enhanced security but increased tension.

Addressing the world’s largest travel trade fair in Berlin this week, World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Secretary-General Taleb Rifai said that promoting safe travel “does not mean stigmatizing, oppressing or excluding communities and minorities, by building walls or banning people from travelling, which is bending to what terrorists want – to end a free world.”

The remarks by Rifai, a Jordanian, echo a statement he issued when Trump issued an initial travel order in late January, barring entry to the U.S. for 90 days by citizens of seven terror-prone countries – Syria, Iraq, Iran, Somalia, Sudan, Libya and Yemen.Scissors-32x32.png

$2.4 Billion for Peacekeeping? Trump Administration Mulls UN Funding Cuts

(CNSNews.com) – With the Trump administration looking at ways to reduce U.S. contributions to the United Nations, the approximately $2.4 billion of taxpayers’ money that goes towards peacekeeping missions each year is in the spotlight.

The U.S. is liable for 28.57 percent of the total budget for global peacekeeping missions. The Obama administration’s request for FY2017 was $2.394 billion.

The FY2016 U.S. funding estimate was $2.460 billion.Scissors-32x32.png

AP Uncovers Nearly 2,000 Sexual Abuse Allegations Among UN Peacekeepers

The Associated Press published a report on Wednesday detailing nearly 2,000 allegations of sexual assault and misconduct among United Nations peacekeeping forces over the past. More than 300 of these cases involved the sexual abuse of children, and the peacekeepers rarely, if ever, were punished for their actions.

Some of the more disturbing allegations concern a child sex ring of Sri Lankan peacekeepers who were stationed in Haiti. None of the Sri Lankan peacekeepers was arrested for their crimes; rather, they were simply sent home.Scissors-32x32.png

United Nations Elects Saudi Arabia to Women’s Rights Commission

Saudi Arabia was recently elected to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, provoking backlash from human rights organizations.

The Gulf state became the 45th country to sit on the UN panel tasked with promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women across the globe. UN Watch, a nongovernmental watchdog that monitors the United Nations, called the election "absurd."

"Every Saudi woman must have a male guardian who makes all critical decisions on her behalf, controlling a woman’s life from her birth until death," Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch, said in a statement released Saturday. "Saudi Arabia also bans women from driving cars."

"Electing Saudi Arabia to protect women’s rights is like making an arsonist into the town fire chief," Neuer continued.Scissors-32x32.png

President Trump: U.N. Funding Has Gotten Completely Out of Control

Nikki Haley by his side, President Donald Trump greeted a number of U.S. ambassadors for lunch and warned they should expect busy schedules during his time in the Oval Office.

"You're going to be very busy people over the coming months and years," Trump said. "The United Nations doesn't like taking on certain problems."

"North Korea is a big world problem," he continued. "People have put blinders on for decades."

Further, Trump questioned a lack of action from the United Nations and warned funding for the international body has become expensive. Scissors-32x32.png

Ambassador Haley slams UN 'Human Rights' Commission

A refreshing op-ed in the Washington Post by UN Ambassador Nikki Haley as she took the opportunityu to savage the so-called UN Human Rights Council.
Titled, "The UN Human Rights Council Whitewashes Brutality," Haley breaks with the previous administration by calling the HRC what it is; a haven for brutal dictatorships.
Last month, a U.S. Senate subcommittee met to consider whether the United States should remain a part of the council. Expert witnesses shared their viewpoints, not on the question of whether America supports human rights — of course we do, and very strongly. The question was whether the Human Rights Council actually supports human rights or is merely a showcase for dictatorships that use their membership to whitewash brutality.
When the council focuses on human rights instead of politics, it advances important causes. In North Korea, its attention has led to action on human rights abuses. In Syria, it has established a commission on the atrocities of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.:snip:
