Explosions and gunfire have been reported at the American University in Kabul, according to witness reports and students.

 

Security forces responded to emergency calls in the capital.

 

The attack began at 7pm on Wednesday evening when residents heard a loud blast near the university, according to BNO News.

 

Gunmen entered the building as classes were taking place.

 

Hundreds of students and teachers are reportedly trapped inside the building, including Associated Press Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer, Massoud Hossaini.
