CLEVELAND — Donald Trump arrived at the Republican National Convention in style Monday night, making a memorable entrance to introduce his wife, Melania Trump.

With Queen’s “We Are The Champions” ringing out in the convention hall, Trump’s silhouette appeared on stage, with bright white lights flanking him from below.

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee gave a thumbs-up to the crowd and and walked forward.Scissors-32x32.png

Giuliani: ‘What I Did for New York, Donald Trump Will Do for America’

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Guiliani gave an electrifying speech on the first night of the Republican National Convention.

Guiliani, known as America’s Mayor, gave a rousing endorsement of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and his policies to protect America.

“What I did for New York, Donald Trump will do for America!” Guiliani shouted.

While Guiliani was mayor, the crime rate of New York City dropped by 56 percent, murder was down nearly two-thirds and robberies were down 67 percent. Guiliani put in place a zero-tolerance approach to fighting crime. The policy allowed police officers to stop and frisk suspects as well as make arrests for minor infractions that previously went ignored.Scissors-32x32.png

Darryl Glenn Energizes Convention Crowd

CLEVELAND, Ohio—Republican Senate candidate Darryl Glenn electrified the crowd at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland on Monday evening, drawing heavy applause for his comments on race relations and the police, saying “all lives matter.”

Glenn helped kick off a night of high-profile speeches, appealing to the crowd to support “our heroes in blue” in Baton Rogue and Dallas after a series of police killings.

Glenn, a black conservative, Air Force veteran, and county commissioner, also criticized President Barack Obama for dividing the country on racial lines.

The four-minute speech was marked with memorable one-liners, capturing the spirit of Glenn’s fiery speech in April at the Colorado GOP convention that propelled the candidate to victory in a crowded Republican primary.

“I am often asked why are you a Republican?” Glenn said. “It’s because the Democrat party is the party of handouts. After more than seven years, the only thing we have left in our pockets is change.”Scissors-32x32.png

Benghazi Victim’s Mother: I Blame Hillary Clinton for the Death of My Son, She Should Be in Prison

Gold Star mother Patricia Smith delivered an emotional speech Monday at the Republican National Convention about the tragic death of her son, Sean Smith, who was murdered in the 2012 Benghazi terrorist attack on the American consulate in Benghazi.

Smith blamed the death of her son on Hillary Clinton, who was secretary of state at the time, and charged that she lied to her face about the circumstances of his killing.

“I blame Hillary Clinton personally for the death of my son. That’s personally,” Smith said. “In an email to her daughter shortly after the attack, Hillary Clinton blamed it on terrorism … But when I saw Hillary Clinton at Sean’s coffin ceremony just days later, she looked me squarely in the eye and told me a video was responsible.”

The audience was visibly moved when Smith told them how her son feared for his life and knew that he was going to die. Sean Smith was an information management officer with the United State Foreign Service.Scissors-32x32.png

Marcus Luttrell: ‘America Is the Light’

Former U.S. Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell emotionally said “America is the light” Monday night during his remarks at the Republican National Convention.

Luttrell received the Navy Cross and Purple Heart for his actions in Afghanistan and is known for co-authoring Lone Survivor, detailing his and fellow Navy SEALs’ harrowing ordeal during Operation Red Wings.

Luttrell challenged the crowd in Cleveland to step up and take the fight to America’s enemies, as he had.

“I challenge all of you to fight for this country and for each and every one of us,” he said, his voice quivering. “Look, the world outside of our borders is a dark place, a scary place. America is the light, and her people are the goodness that grows from that. She’ll always be worth fighting for, and it was my greatest honor to fight for her every day of my adult life.”Scissors-32x32.png

Cotton: Obama Lied to Nation About Details of Secret Iran Nuke Deal

CLEVELAND, Ohio—A leading member of the Senate committees on intelligence and armed services told the Washington Free Beacon on Monday that the Obama administration lied to Congress and the American people about the parameters of last summer’s nuclear agreement with Iran.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R., Ark.), responding to questions from the Free Beacon, said he was “truly shocked” by breaking reports earlier this afternoon showing that the Obama administration struck a secret side deal with Iran that would lift key nuclear restrictions on the country in less than a decade, placing it within six months of a functional nuclear weapon.

The report was touted by deal critics as a smoking gun proving that the Obama administration misled the public about the deal’s contents in order to stymie opponents. The deal was touted as keeping Iran from a bomb for 15 years, but the new disclosures reveal that Iran could be six months away from a bomb within a decade of the deal.

Multiple congressional inquiries seeking documents and information about the administration’s secret diplomacy with Iran have been rebuffed in recent months.Scissors-32x32.png

Melania Trump speech appears to plagiarize Michelle Obama

Melania Trump’s highly anticipated speech at the Republican National Convention Monday night appears to have nearly copied a paragraph from Michelle Obama’s speech at the 2008 Democratic National Convention.

Presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump’s wife was describing how her parents imparted on her values about working hard and treating people with respect.

It included phrases and even precise words that were identical to the first lady's 2008 address.

Here is the graph in question from Melania Trump's speech:

"From a young age, my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life: that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise; that you treat people with respect. They taught and showed me values and morals in their daily life.”

Here is the graph from Obama's 2008 speech.

“And Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you're going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don't know them, and even if you don't agree with them,” Michelle Obama said, according to a transcript from CNN.Scissors-32x32.png

Former DIA Chief Flynn on Hillary: ‘She Should Never Have a Security Clearance Again’

WASHINGTON — Retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, former director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, said presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton should “never” have a security clearance again nor should she receive classified intelligence briefings.

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) wrote a letter to the Director of National Intelligence James Clapper requesting that he deny Clinton classified intelligence briefings given her history with using a private email sever to transmit classified information. Clapper denied the request.

"I do not intend to withhold briefings from any officially nominated, eligible candidate,” Clapper wrote back to Ryan.

PJM asked Flynn, who was among Republican nominee Donald Trump’s top choices for vice president and will be speaking at the Republican National Convention, if he thought Clinton should be able to receive classified intelligence briefings.Scissors-32x32.png

'Blue lives matter,' Milwaukee sheriff tells GOP

David Clarke, sheriff of Milwaukee County, Wisc., had one simple message for the Republican Party on Monday night.

"Blue lives matter!" the sheriff shouted in his first line to attendees at the GOP convention in Cleveland.

Clarke, a conservative law enforcement officer, also praised the Monday acquittal of the final Baltimore police officer who had been charged in the death of Freddie Gray. He specifically called out Maryland State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby for unjustly prosecuting police.

"Donald Trump understands that what can make our nation safe again is a recommitment to a system of justice in which no government official, not even those who have fought their way to the marble and granite halls of Washington; no private citizen, not even Hillary Clinton; and no group of people, despite the fervor with which they press forward their grievances, can claim privilege above the law," Clarke said.Scissors-32x32.png

Ernst dings Clinton, talks national security before barren late-night crowd

Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst used her speech before the Republican National Convention to attack former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton over her foreign policy credentials and prop up Donald Trump's in a speech designed to showcase America's military might on Monday night.

Flanked by members of the U.S. Armed Forces, Ernst used her perch as a rising star within the party to hit Clinton for her failures as secretary of state, particularly her inability in stopping terrorism and the Islamic State. Her speech was the second to last of the evening, forcing her to deliver it to a crowd that had thinned out significantly after Melania Trump delivered her address during the 10 p.m. hour.Scissors-32x32.png

Victims of illegal immigrant criminals plead for border security at convention

CLEVELAND — Often overlooked in the immigration debate, the families of victims of illegal immigrant criminals got their biggest stage yet with prime-time speaking roles Monday at the Republican National Convention, where they pleaded for a firmer hand in the White House to keep the country safe.

“Only one candidate is serious about border security: Donald Trump,” said Kent Terry, brother of slain Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry. “He will give our heroic Border Patrol agents the resources and support needed to do their jobs. President Trump will make America’s borders secure again.”

Mr. Terry was joined on stage by two mothers and one father whose children were slain by illegal immigrants and who said it’s time their side of the immigration debate receives more attention.

Democrats will counter at their convention next week with a speech from an illegal immigrant Dreamer who was allowed to remain in the U.S. under President Obama’s 2012 deportation amnesty policy. Democrats say the vast majority of illegal immigrants follow the laws except in the case of immigration, and say Dreamers in particular are leaders of the next generation of Americans.Scissors-32x32.png

Ben Carson Warns, 'God Will Remove Himself From Us'

(CNSNews.com) - "Don't eat up my time," Dr. Ben Carson joked as he was greeted with sustained, enthusiastic applause at the Republican National Convention Tuesday night.

Carson blasted political correctness, which "secular progressives" use to "make people sit down and shut up while they change everything."

The former neurosurgeon described the brain as a remarkable organ that allows us to reason and judge people, including Hillary Clinton. And he warned against a Godless future for the United States:

“If we continue to allow them to take God out of our lives, God will remove himself from us, we will not be blessed, and our nation will go down the tubes,” he said near the end of his 8-minute speech.Scissors-32x32.png

Donald Trump Junior: 'For My Father, Impossible Is Just the Starting Point'

(CNSNews.com) - Donald Trump Junior, describing himself as "the son of a great man," urged the nation not to underestimate his father -- "a man who has a track record of accomplishing the impossible."

"We're still one country. And we're going to get it all back," Trump told the Republican National Convention Tuesday night. "We're going to get it back better than ever before. I know we'll get it back because I know my father.

"I know that when people tell him it can't be done, that guarantees that he gets it done. I know that when someone tells him that something is impossible, that's what triggers him into action.

"When people told him it was impossible for a boy from Queens to go to Manhattan and take on developers in the big city, rather than give up, he changed the skyline of New York.

"I've seen it time and time again, that look in his eyes when someone says it can't be done. I saw that look a little over a year ago when he was told he couldn't possibly succeed in politics. Yes he did. For my father, impossible is just the starting point. That's how he approaches business projects, that's how he approaches life."Scissors-32x32.png

Trump Officially Nominated in Face of Dissenters

CLEVELAND, Ohio—Donald Trump was formally declared the Republican presidential nominee on Tuesday evening at the Republican National Convention, despite some delegates opposing his nomination.

A handful of delegates unsuccessfully attempted to direct their votes to other candidates despite GOP officials declaring them bound to Trump, while others abstained from the roll call vote altogether. The proceedings followed a tense scene on Monday during which delegates unsuccessfully attempted to force a recorded vote on convention rules that could have freed them to vote for a candidate other than Trump.

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R., Wis.), the convention chairman, was prepared for disorder ahead of Tuesday evening’s proceedings.

“I wish to remind our delegates, our alternates, and guests that maintaining order during the roll call is extremely important,” he cautioned the crowd before allowing Sen. Jeff Sessions (R., Ala.), a vocal Trump backer, to formally nominate the candidate to become the GOP nominee.

At the start of the state-by-state roll call, Alaska tried to cast 12 votes for Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas), 11 for Trump, and five for Sen. Marco Rubio (R., Fla.) given the results of the state’s caucuses. The convention secretary denied the request, ruling that all 28 votes go to Trump. The decision was met with resistance, with one Alaska delegate refusing to accept the ruling.

Following the nomination process, the delegate accused the secretary of “misrecording” the result when given the opportunity to object by Paul Ryan. He said that the votes were pursuant to Alaska caucus rules and requested a poll of the delegation.Scissors-32x32.png

Paul Ryan: Progressives Deliver Everything Except Progress

Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R., Wis.) focused on laying out clear differences between the Democratic and Republican Party platforms for America during his remarks at the GOP National Convention Tuesday night.

Progressives, he said, “deliver everything except progress.”

While he mostly avoided discussing presidential nominee Donald Trump, with whom he has had sharp policy and temperament differences, Ryan didn’t hesitate to rip Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and the liberal agenda.

Ryan, the 2012 vice-presidential nominee, acknowledged ruefully that his run with Mitt Romney didn’t go according to plan, but he said he could look forward to the next State of the Union address where he could sit behind Trump and Mike PenceScissors-32x32.png

McConnell Eviscerates Hillary at RNC: Scandals ‘Follow the Clintons Like Flies’

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) eviscerated Hillary Clinton and her legacy of scandal during his remarks at the Republican National Convention on Tuesday.

“I’m here to tell you Hillary Clinton will say anything, do anything, and be anything to get elected president, and we cannot allow it,” he said.

McConnell’s sharp differences with President Obama are well-known, but he said he gave him credit at least for being up-front about wanting to move the country to the far left.

“Not Hillary,” he said. “She lied about her emails. She lied about her server. She lied about Benghazi. She even lied about sniper fire. Why, even she lied about why her parents named her Hillary. So I ask you a simple question. At a moment when so many feel betrayed by their government, why in the world would Democrats put forward such a candidate?”Scissors-32x32.png

Senate Homeland Security chairman: World is too dangerous to elect Hillary

CLEVELAND — Senate Homeland Security Committee Chairman Ron Johnson declared Tuesday that the world is too dangerous to elect Hillary Clinton as president.

Speaking at the Republican National Convention Tuesday night, Johnson (R-Wis.) argued that Democrats cannot be counted on to take a hard line against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria and said Clinton’s handling of the 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya, shows the former secretary of State cannot be trusted to lead.

“She looked those family members right in the eye and then she lied,” Johnson said, referring to allegations that Clinton told the families of the victims of the attack that the violence was sparked by an incendiary video. The attack was later determined to have been premeditated and not caused by the video.

“Hillary’s cold, calculating lying continues. If we can’t trust her to tell us the truth, how can we possibly trust her to lead America?” he asked.

He argued that the nation won’t confront the threat of Islamic terrorism if voters elect Clinton to the White House and put Democrats in charge of the Senate.

He noted that his Democratic challenger, former three-term Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.), whom he defeated in 2010, was the only member of the Senate to vote against granting expanded surveillance authority to law enforcement agencies through the 2001 Patriot Act.

He also highlighted Feingold’s various votes against the annual defense authorization bill.

“Now he’s asking Wisconsinites to give him a fourth term, just as Hillary Clinton is asking America to give her Obama’s third term. The world is simply too dangerous to elect either of them,” he said.

'Guilty or Not Guilty?': Christie's Brutal Verdict for Hillary at RNC

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie had a simple question for the RNC audience in his address Tuesday night: Is Hillary Clinton guilty or not guilty? He offered some guidance.

“In Syria and Libya: guilty.”

“In China and Syria: guilty.”

“And here at home for risking America’s secrets to keep her own.”

Again, guilty.

Amidst Christie’s guilty verdicts for the former secretary of state, the crowd broke out in chants of “Lock her up!”

Clinton’s email scandal and inept leadership during the 2012 terror attack in Benghazi, Libya have been a common theme of the 2016 Republican National Convention. Her scandals prove Americans didn’t disqualify her, Christie insisted. Instead, “the facts of her life and career disqualify her.”Scissors-32x32.png

THE GOP CONVENTION, NIGHT TWO — THREE BIG HITS AND A BAD MISS

Night Two of the GOP convention featured strong speeches throughout much of the evening, but ended off-key. Two of the best speeches came in the 9:00 hour, before the three major networks were covering the event, but while, I assume, many viewers were tuned in on cable channels.

Paul Ryan, of whom I am no big fan, delivered an excellent condemnation of the Democratic Party on the domestic front followed by a powerful call for Republican unity. Ryan branded the Dems as a hidebound outfit devoid of innovative ideas (actually they have some but these ideas are too radical to advertise). His best line: Progressives deliver everything but progress.

Chris Christie, of whom I am no big fan, then brilliantly put Hillary Clinton on “trial” before the Convention. He presented “the facts” regarding Hiilary’s policies and conduct on Libya, Nigeria, Syria, Iran, China, Russia, Cuba, and her secret email server. After each recitation, he asked for a verdict — guilty or not guilty. The response was predictable, and difficult to disagree with on the evidence.

It was an inspired concept masterfully executed. His best line: Hillary Clinton will bring all the failures of the Obama years with less charm and more lies.Scissors-32x32.png

Here's How Ted Cruz Overshadowed Mike Pence at the RNC

CLEVELAND, OH -- Texas Senator Ted Cruz caused a huge stir at the Republican National Convention Wednesday evening by declining to endorse Donald Trump, whom the convention had nominated on Tuesday. This surprise knocked the convention off track, and enabled Cruz to overshadow the vice presidential nominee, Indiana Governor Mike Pence.

Cruz walked on stage to thunderous cheers and applause, gave a powerful and heartwarming speech, and left to deafening boos. It appears a majority of convention-goers expected the Texas senator to endorse The Donald, and they became increasingly irate as it became clear Cruz would not do so.

Republican National Convention — Day 3

To be fair, Cruz congratulated Trump on winning the Republican nomination early in his speech, and he emphasized that Republicans cannot afford to stay home in November. But the telling moment came when the Texas senator declared those three fateful words, "vote your conscience!"Scissors-32x32.png
