a-historic-number-of-college-freshmen-expect-to-protest-this-yearWashington Post:

This past year, colleges across the country, from Yale to Towson to Claremont McKenna, were rocked by protests. Students upset over racial issues took over the president’s office at Princeton, demanded the resignation of Ithaca College’s president, and forced out the chancellor and president of the entire University of Missouri system.

And this spring may be even more intense: Researchers at UCLA are predicting a continued rise in campus demonstrations based on the results of their annual freshman survey, which found students’ interest in political engagement at historically high levels.

It was yet another sign that many students are not waiting for social change — they are forcing it to happen, campus by campus.

The Social Justice Generation-soon to be headed back to their parents' basements or homeless shelters.

And which side of the great divide have college protesters ALWAYS been on? What side of the great divide do the vast majority of college professors profess?

Nothing new here.

Remember SDS? Remember all the hippy dippy flower children and the anarchists who potested the Vietnam war? Remember A.N.S.W.E. R.? Remember the drug culture? Remember Wall Street occupiers? and more?

Left and right, liberal/progressives and moderates and conservatives and libertarians - choices do make a difference.

Was Not Always So..Hillsdale College

"Many Hillsdale students joined the ranks of the Union Army during the American Civil War in 1861 with a higher percentage of Hillsdale students enlisted than from any other Michigan college.[29][30] In 1864, the Detroit Tribune published, "probably no college in the country is better represented in the Union than [Hillsdale]. It has sent its young men to the war by hundreds."[31] Hillsdale remained in operation throughout wartime, albeit with limited enrollment, as the college sent over five hundred volunteers to the war. Half of Hillsdale’s students became officers; five became lieutenant colonels, four received the Medal of Honor, and three became generals. Sixty students died in the war.[32]"

The major change started after WWII. Why, I don't know, but this is when the change started.
