H‑E‑B 16 Bean Soup Mix

Dry beans with seasoning packet. A naturally low fat food. Spiced with Fiesta brand seasoning. Excellent source of fiber. Product of USA.

Preparation: Quick Soak: Sort beans, rinse, place in an 8 quart pot, and add 8 cups of hot water. Bring to a boil, boil for 2 minutes, remove from heat, cover pot and soak 1 hour. Drain and rinse the beans. Overnight Soak: Sort beans, rinse, place in an 8 quart pot, and add 6‑8 cups of cold water. Let stand overnight for at least 6‑8 hours. Drain soak water and rinse beans.

 

Cooking Directions: Prep Time: 5 minutes. Cook Time: 2 hours.

 

Place soaked beans in an 8 qt pot, add 6‑8 cups water and seasoning packet. Bring to a boil over medium heat, reduce heat to low and cook for 1 hour 50 minutes or until desired tenderness is reached. Makes: 16 (1/2 cup) servings. For extra flavor, stir‑fry 1/4 pound of lean ham for 3 minutes. Add to the beans at the beginning of the above cooking directions along with 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes with juice. Cook as directed. Makes: 16 (3/4 cup) servings. Beans are a natural agricultural product. Despite use of modern cleaning equipment, it is not always possible to remove all foreign material, sort and rinse beans before cooking.
