She wasn't so 'smart': Pamela Smart seduced teen, convinced him to kill her husband in movie-ready crime

BY DAVID J. KRAJICEK NEW YORK DAILY NEWS Sunday, October 11, 2015, 12:01 AM

Fittingly, Pamela Smart’s career as a homicidal seductress began with a line of dialogue that could have been written for TV’s Detective Andy Sipowicz.

Just after lunch on Aug. 1, 1990, a real-life detective named Daniel Pelletier startled Smart by showing up at the New Hampshire school where she worked.

“I have some good news and I have some bad news,” Pelletier told Smart. “The good news is that we’ve solved the murder of your husband. The bad news is that you’re under arrest.”

Smart stood for her first mugshot that afternoon, and her face has never been far from a viewfinder in the 25 years since.

Before there was Amy Fisher, Jodi Arias or any of the other modern American made-for-TV true crime divas, there was Pam Smart. Her crime and her id have been examined in books (fiction and non-), films (feature and documentary) and a gigabyte or so of words struck in news ink. Scissors-32x32.png
