Planned Parenthood blasted over salaries, expensive parties

House Republicans grilled Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards Tuesday morning on her group's generous employee salaries, spending on parties and travel, contributions to political causes and efforts to get Democrats elected, but largely ignored the issue that generated the hearing in the first place, which was the group's involvement in providing aborted fetal tissue to researchers.

Richards, who heads the prominent chain of women's health and abortion clinics, faced Congress for the first time ever to defend her group in the face of newly-energized GOP efforts to block it from getting federal dollars. A series of undercover videos from anti-abortion investigator David Daleiden highlighting Planned Parenthood's involvement in providing aborted fetal tissue have prompted widespread outrage among Republicans and abortion opponents.

Two other House committees have also held hearings on Planned Parenthood this month, but Rep. Jason Chaffetz's Oversight and Government Reform Committee was focused Tuesday on Planned Parenthood's funding sources and how it spends its dollars. Chaffetz said the group needs to be examined as a political entity.Scissors-32x32.png

New Planned Parenthood Video May Show Partial Birth Abortion Admission
Amy Miller Tuesday, October 27, 2015

Today, the Center for Medical Progress released the eleventh video in a series aimed at exposing criminal activity at Planned Parenthood clinics. This newest video purports to show Planned Parenthood doctor Dr. Amna Dermish describing how she provides very illegal partial birth abortions to her patients.

More from Fox News:

As Fox notes, partial birth abortion (defined as “deliberately and intentionally vaginally” delivering a living fetus where “any part of the fetal trunk past the navel is outside the body of the mother, for the purpose of” killing the fetus) was outlawed in 2003.

The problem here (aside from the monstrous nature of abortion itself) is that, according to CMP, Dermish asserts repeatedly that during this type of procedure she does not use digoxin to kill the fetus pre-extraction, and does not describe how she ensures fetal death before the body is removed. At least in today’s released footage, she goes into detail about how she uses an ultrasound to position the fetus for easier removal, but not about how she keeps the procedure legal.

Secret videographers target another Texas abortion clinic

Brian M. Rosenthal

*However, like the other videos, the footage provides no proof of that the clinic alters the abortion process to preserve organs or sells or even donates the organs to medical researchers. In fact, both Dermish and the Whole Woman's Health provider say in the video that they do not participate in fetal tissue donation.

A spokeswoman for Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas, which operates the Austin clinic, said in an email that "false claims are being made about our services based on a manipulated conversation with one of our physicians when she answered questions about her medical approach to services while at a medical conference."

"Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas health centers have never participated in tissue research programs, though we recognize the vital role they play in medical advancement," said the spokeswoman, Sarah Wheat. "Our staff provides healthcare and education to nearly 85,000 Texans each year and follows all state and federal laws and the highest medical and ethical standards."

Judicial Watch filed two amicus curiae (friend of the court) briefs in the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of The Center for Medical Progress (CMP) and its founder David Daleiden, one of which asks for review of the Ninth Circuit Court’s affirmation of a monetary award against CMP (Center for Medical Progress et al. v Planned Parent Hood et al. (22-1168)), the other asks for review of an injunction granted to the National Abortion Federation that prevents CMP from publishing more abortion-related videos (Center for Medical Progress et al. v National Abortion Federation (22-1135)).
