Businessman Donald Trump is running for president.

Trump declared his White House bid Tuesday in front of a boisterous crowd that chanted "we want Trump" even before he made his announcement.

"Today I am declaring my candidacy for president. I will make America great again," Trump said in prepared remarks at New York City's Trump Tower.

Trump's social media profile pictures had adopted a logo reading "Trump – Making America Great Again!" earlier in the day ahead of his speech, using a phrase he has used often in recent weeks.Scissors-32x32.png

PRESIDENTIAL HOPEFUL TOUTS HIS GUCCI STORE

After hearing Hillary Clinton’s claim to have left the White House “dead broke,” is it refreshing to hear Donald Trump say, “I have a Gucci store that’s worth more than [Mitt] Romney”?

No it is not. Trump’s bragging is as distasteful as Hillary’s poor-mouthing.

Some say “it’s not bragging if you can do it.” Actually, that’s exactly what bragging is. If you can’t do it, it’s lying.

It has been suggested that Trump does lie about, or at least misstate, his net worth. Forbes estimates Trump’s wealth at around $4 billion, while Trump has said he’s worth $10 billion. Now, as part of his bid for the presidency, he’s about to release a disclosure statement that reportedly will put the total at around $9 billion.

According to Washington Post reporters Robert Costa and Matra Gold, Trump has “bristled” at those who dispute his estimates of his wealth. More than bristling, he sued a New York Times reporter who, in 2005, wrote that Trump was probably worth between $150 and $250 million. The suit was dismissed.

Mike Gallagher devoted his show today to this.

I swear Mike has the most amazing gift....to pick the least important story and spend large amounts of time on it.

Witless Ape Rides Escalator

Donald Trump is in the race.

Donald Trump may be the man America needs. Having been through four bankruptcies, the ridiculous buffoon with the worst taste since Caligula is uniquely positioned to lead the most indebted organization in the history of the human race.

The Trump conglomerate is the Argentina of limited-liability companies, having been in bankruptcy as recently as 2009. To be sure, a lot of companies went bankrupt around then. The Trump gang went bankrupt in 2004, too, and in 2001. Before that, Trump was in bankruptcy court back in 1991 when his Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City — the nation’s first casino-cum-strip-club, an aesthetic crime against humanity that is tacky by the standards of Atlantic City — turned out to be such a loser that Trump could not make his debt payments.

The closing of that casino has been announced at least twice — it was supposed to shut its doors in December, but it limps on.

Donald Trump, being Donald Trump, announced his candidacy at Trump Plaza, making a weird grand entrance via escalator — going down, of course, the symbolism of which is lost on that witless ape. But who could witness that scene — the self-made man who started with nothing but a modest portfolio of 27,000 New York City properties acquired by his millionaire slumlord father, barely out of his latest bankruptcy and possibly headed for another one as the casino/jiggle-joint bearing his name sinks into the filthy mire of the one U.S. city that makes Las Vegas look respectable, a reality-television grotesque with his plastic-surgery-disaster wife, grunting like a baboon about our country’s “brand” and his own vast wealth — and not see the peerless sign of our times?

On the substance, Trump is — how to put it gently? Oh, why bother! — an ass. Not just an ass, but an ass of exceptionally intense asininity. China? “China’s leaders are like Tom Brady, and the U.S. is like a high-school football team,” Trump says. And so, we should do what?Scissors-32x32.png

7 Reasons Donald Trump Says He’d Make a ‘Truly Great’ President“

I am officially running for president of the United States, and we are going to make our country great again.”

With those words halfway through 45 minutes of remarks, real estate magnate Donald Trump today entered the race for the Republican nomination, making good on repeated suggestions over the years that he would seek the White House as the ultimate deal maker. Trump, also a TV personality known for his “Apprentice” series, promised to be “the greatest jobs president that God ever created.”

“Our country needs a truly great leader and we need a truly great leader now,” @realDonaldTrump says.

“We need someone who can take the brand of the United States and make it great again,” he said, adding: “This is going to be an election that in my opinion is based on competence.”

Speaking to a sometimes rowdy crowd inside Trump Tower in New York City, one of the jewels of his global properties, Trump wound up by saying:

Sadly, the American dream is dead. But if I get elected president, I will bring it back bigger and better and stronger than ever before, and we will make America great again.

Trump, who becomes the 12th major GOP candidate, emphasized his belief in free enterprise and a strong military. He repeatedly highlighted his negotiating acumen, ability to get things done and understanding of finances as needed to prevent the nation’s $18 trillion in debt from mounting to “the point of no return.”

In one extended example, he detailed how he would use the government’s taxing power to convince the head of Ford to bring a manufacturing plant back to the United States from Mexico.

Trump, 69, trumpeted his immunity to pressure from big donors by revealing, after some build-up, a net worth of $8.7 billion, noting with delight that some news reports got it wrong.

“I don’t need anybody else’s money, it’s nice,” he said. “I’m really rich.”Scissors-32x32.png

Donald Trump thinks pretty much everyone is a loser

Chris Moody, CNN Senior Digital Correspondent

Updated 5:03 PM ET, Tue June 16, 2015

Washington (CNN)For a man who will most likely lose next year's presidential race, Donald Trump sure thinks a lot of other people are losers.

Trump announced the launch of his official campaign Tuesday, kicking off what is sure to be an entertaining ride full of drama and plenty of insults.

Here are just a few people "The Donald" thinks are morons, idiots, losers and -- perhaps his favorite take-down -- dummies.

Electable or Not, Trump's Announcement Was A Welcome "Breath of Fresh Air"!
Here are ten amazing quotes from Donald Trump's announcement to run for president. Before yesterday, I do not believe one of the dozen or so republican candidates running for president in 2016 would have dared to have made ONE of these brazen remarks that Trump belted out during his announcement. In my opinion almost all of them project the image of "more of the same". However, I believe it is only a short time before the data will be analyzed and political polls taken and this information will show most conservative Americans overwhelmingly support every issue Trump addressed and they will begin to roar like the lion that Trump was yesterday. Garish Tastes, Awful Hair: Donald Trump Is America

He’s the king of bad taste in a country that loves bad taste. And all the candidates (him included) are pygmies anyway. Go, Donald!

Who are these jacklegs, highbinders, wirepullers, mountebanks, swellheads, buncombe spigots, boodle artists, four-flushers, and animated cuspidors offering themselves as worthy of the nation’s highest office?

Do they take us voters for fools? Of course. But are they also deluded? Are they also insane? Are they under an illusion that they have the qualities to make a good or even adequate president? Do they imagine they possess even one such quality?

Trump paid actors to cheer his 2016 launch: report

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump allegedly paid actors to celebrate his formal campaign launch for president earlier this week.

The new 2016 contender paid extras $50 to participate in his kickoff Tuesday from New York City’s Trump Tower, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The publication said it had obtained an email sent by New York-based Extra Mile Casting last Friday, calling on performers capable of joining the campaign launch earlier this week.

“We are looking to cast people for the event to wear T-shirts and carry signs and help cheer him in support of his announcement,” the June 12 email said.

“We understand this is not a traditional ‘background job,’ but we believe acting comes in all forms and that is inclusive of this school of thought,” it added.

The Hollywood Reporter said the email was sent on behalf of Gotham Government Relations and Communications, a political consulting group in New York that Trump has previously used.Scissors-32x32.png

Trump: Walker has ‘a lot of problems in Wisconsin’

Republican presidential contender Donald Trump on Wednesday criticized Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s handling of his state’s finances in an interview with Bloomberg Politics.

“He has got a lot of problems in Wisconsin. You know, Wisconsin has got tremendous problems,” he said.

“The debt and the difficult problems that they have going on in Wisconsin that a lot of people don't understand and know about. Tremendous borrowings. And they have difficulties,” he added.

Trump, who launched his White House campaign Tuesday, compared himself favorably to many of his 2016 competitors.

On former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Trump said, “They're saying Bush raised a lot of money, although less than they thought. I've raised more money than anybody by a factor of many, many times.”

Trump also criticized former Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s 2012 White House run.Scissors-32x32.png

Trump wouldn't qualify for the first GOP debate if it were held today

Donald Trump says he's a presidential candidate, but the Federal Election Commission's records say something different.

Trump has yet to file a Statement of Candidacy with the FEC, and might never do so. An FEC spokesperson told the Washington Examiner they have yet to receive anything from Trump or his campaign. As a result, if the first GOP presidential debate hosted by Fox News were held today, Trump's "candidacy" does not appear to satisfy its rules.

But Trump still has time to file with the FEC. An individual must file a Statement of Candidacy within 15 days of becoming a presidential candidate, which the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 says happens when an individual "has received contributions aggregating excess of $5,000 or made expenditures aggregating in excess of $5,000" or "has given consent to another person to receive contributions or make expenditures on behalf of him or herself and that person has received contributions aggregating excess of $5,000 or made expenditures aggregating in excess of $5,000."

Despite meeting other requirements detailed by Fox News — he meets Fox News' polling threshold, according to RealClearPolitics average of national polls— Trump would be relegated to the sidelines. He also fails to meet the requirements for Fox News' separate candidate forum for contenders who do not crack the formal debate. In other words, Trump would have to watch his competitors just like any other voter.Scissors-32x32.png

The only thing I see from Trump's so far is giving the opposition ammunition by individually trashing the Republican candidates one by one. The other candidates have mostly avoided trashing one another so far. He has day after day since his speech been trashing them by name and specific charges. Eventually he will probably take his ball and go home, after he has done whatever damage he can.

As A Minnesotan I have a certain expertise in non politicians running for office, in order to puff himself up. Trust me, this doesn't work out well.

He is appealing to the "I'm Mad As Hell And I'm Not Gonna Take It Anymore." crowd.

Is Trump a Double Agent for the Left?

fter Donald Trump’s bizarre announcement last week that he was running for president, it occurred to me that many observers are misreading Trump.

Many consider him a joke. Not true. Trump knows when he is being outrageous — and acts that way consciously to build his brand. Some consider him a menace, pointing out polls that show he would do well if he abandoned the GOP after the primaries and ran as an independent. But Trump is too smart to waste money on a futile effort to capture 270 electoral votes. He will conclude — like Michael Bloomberg, another billionaire — that American politics is a two-party duopoly.

But just maybe Trump is a double agent for the Left. He is nearly a cartoon version of what a comedian such as Stephen Colbert considers a conservative — the kind of conservative Colbert played on Comedy Central until this year. He reinforces all the Left’s negative stereotypes of conservatives as ignorant blowhards. During his announcement speech last week, Trump said of Mexican immigrants: “They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists, and some, I assume, are good people.Scissors-32x32.png

The Art of the Con, by Donald Trump

Showmanship isn’t statesmanship.

Conservatives love a faction. Among my friends here at National Review, we have conservatarians (Charles C. W. Cooke), reform conservatives (Ramesh Ponnuru), the secular Right (Andrew Stuttaford), etc. The distinctive features of those camps are, respectively, being comfortable with gay marriage, favoring tax credits for children, and favoring tax credits for the children of gay marriages so long as the money doesn’t end up in the offering plate.

The reaction to Donald Trump’s announcement of his presidential campaign suggests that there is room for one more: Grow the Hell Up Conservatism.

Trump brings out two of the Right’s worst tendencies: the inability to distinguish between entertainers and political leaders, and the habit of treating politics as an exercise in emotional vindication.Scissors-32x32.png
