An Oregon commission proposed Friday levying a $135,000 hit against Aaron and Melissa Klein for refusing to provide a wedding cake for a same-sex marriage ceremony based on their Christian beliefs.

Aaron and Melissa Klein, who are struggling to make ends meet after closing Sweet Cakes by Melissa in September 2013, received the 110-page proposed order Friday from the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries, which ruled against the couple in February.

Mr. Klein said Friday the figure was “shocking” but not entirely unexpected. The commission has the authority to mete out awards for damages of up to $150,000.

“It’s very discouraging. This is not money coming from a business, this is not money coming from an insurance fund, this is money coming straight from our bank account,” Mr. Klein told the Family Research Council’s Craig James in a radio interview Friday.Scissors-32x32.png

Gay-rights advocates torpedo GoFundMe campaign for Christian-owned bakery

A crowdfunding campaign that had raised more than $109,000 for the Christian-owned bakery Sweet Cakes by Melissa in Oregon was removed Saturday after complaints from gay-rights advocates.

The website GoFundMe said in a statement Saturday that it took down the page because the campaign violated the policy against raising money “in defense of formal charges of heinous crimes, including violent, hateful, or sexual acts.”

“The campaign entitled ‘Sweet Cakes by Melissa‘ involves formal charges. As such, our team has determined that it was in violation of GoFundMe’s Terms & Conditions,” said GoFundMe in an email statement.

Militant Progressives Message to America: Even Gays Will Be Made To Care

If you thought it would end with small town pizza parlors in Indiana and Oregon cake bakers, you would be wrong. The enforcement of militant liberal orthodoxy, having claimed a few scalps from moderate-income Christian business owners, now sets its sights even higher.

Our Editor Erick said over two years ago that “You Will Be Made To Care” and most people thought he was speaking just to evangelical Christians. Who would have guessed such a short time ago that the leftist thought police had much bigger plans in store. Everyone, and I mean everyone, will be brought to heel.

The story goes like this. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is the mainstream media’s boogey man, we all know that. So it was with shock, awe and a healthy dose of condescension that the New York Times published this piece about the Senator attending a dinner at the home of two gay guys in New York City last Monday. By all accounts, the event was not a fundraiser, but an opportunity to discuss mainly foreign policy.

This may come as a shock to some, but gay people do have interests outside the issue of gay marriage. Many are business people who care about lower taxes and less government, and many conservative gays think some sort Supreme Court ruling in favor of gay marriage is as close to a fait accompli as we are likely to see in our lifetime. The are concerned with other issues as well, and are looking for a candidate that can lead America toward a bright future.Scissors-32x32.png
