Emails disclosed by a hacker show a close family friend was funneling intelligence about the crisis in Libya directly to the Secretary of State’s private account starting before the Benghazi attack.

March 27, 2015

This story was co-published with Gawker.

Update, March 27, 6:48 p.m.: This story has been updated to include responses from the FBI and the State Department.

Starting weeks before Islamic militants attacked the U.S. diplomatic outpost in Benghazi, Libya, longtime Clinton family confidante Sidney Blumenthal supplied intelligence to then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gathered by a secret network that included a former CIA clandestine service officer, according to hacked emails from Blumenthal’s account.

The emails, which were posted on the internet in 2013, also show that Blumenthal and another close Clinton associate discussed contracting with a retired Army special operations commander to put operatives on the ground near the Libya-Tunisia border while Libya’s civil war raged in 2011.

Blumenthal’s emails to Clinton, which were directed to her private email account, include at least a dozen detailed reports on events on the deteriorating political and security climate in Libya as well as events in other nations. They came to light after a hacker broke into Blumenthal’s account and have taken on new significance in light of the disclosure that she conducted State Department and personal business exclusively over an email server that she controlled and kept secret from State Department officials and which only recently was discovered by congressional investigators.

Meet the Men Behind Hillary Clinton's Private 'Spy Network'
MARK HEMINGWAY

Mar 30, 2015

Two big Clinton stories landed last week. The first is that Hillary Clinton destroyed the electronic copies of her State Department emails on her private server after the State Department subpoenaed her emails. The second is that Hillary Clinton had an aide running a "secret spy network" that was, among other things, feeding her information on Benghazi, according to a report by Pro Publica and Gawker. Earlier this month, I noted the myriad ways that Clinton running her own private email server breathes new life into the Benghazi investigation, but this last revelation takes things to a whole new level.

Specifically, this new report suggests that three men -- Sidney Blumenthal, Tyler Drumheller, and Cody Shearer -- were involved in her private intelligence gathering efforts. Each of these men has a reputation for being associated with scandal.

We only know about Clinton's spy ring because a hacker who goes by the moniker "Guccifer" hacked the email account of former Clinton aide Sidney Blumenthal and posted his emails online. (Guccifer is now serving a prison sentence in his native Romania.) Guccifer's emails reveal Blumenthal was providing Clinton with detailed intelligence briefings on events in the Middle East and running the ad hoc spy ring. This arrangement is very curious, considering that the Obama White House made it clear that they didn't want Blumenthal working for the administration after Hillary Clinton previously tried to formally hire him to work at the State Department.

Hillary’s private intel chief also an illegal lobbyist?
Ed Morrissey
March 31, 2015

Last week, Gawker and ProPublica revealed that Hillary Clinton ran a private intelligence network while Secretary of State, with longtime Clintonista Sidney Blumenthal at its top, e-mailing her updates through her private server. They have also uncovered evidence that Blumenthal acted as a lobbyist for foreign interests during the same period. And since Blumenthal never registered as a lobbyist, that would be illegal, if true:

(Snip)

As one attorney explained to Gawker and ProPublica, even one instance of lobbying makes one a lobbyist. Just as there’s no such thing as a little bit pregnant, there’s no such thing as a little bit lobbyist. The single e-mail — and that’s just what’s known at the moment, thanks to the Scouring of the Server in Clintonland — would have required both Blumenthal and Kornblum to register as lobbyists for foreign governments. In fact, they’d have to do so at least ten days prior to lobbying a government official on policy, as was done in this instance, under The Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) of 1938. The penalty for violating FARA runs as high as 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

The response to this might be, so what? Hillary Clinton violated the Federal Records Act and defied a subpoena by destroying evidence specifically and explicitly sought by Congress. She hasn’t faced any consequences from that, has she? Except, of course, that Blumenthal and Kornblum aren’t Hillary Clinton. In this case, she’s not the one facing the primary legal consequences, although her decision to destroy the drive with this potential violation of FARA will undoubtedly produce more of those on a secondary basis. The US can certainly pursue those two for illegally lobbying a Secretary of State, and there’s not much Hillary can do about it — or would probably want to do about it, with all of the attention being shone on her activities now.

There have been suggestions, that some deleted e-mails were "love chatter" between Killary & Huma.

She refused to turn her e-mails in....

Because of lover Abedin.

Her million miles as SOS...

Erased, rather than sex confess?

Forbid her office as next Prez.....

Because she lies...and nothing "lez..."

Open Government Experts: Hillary’s Use of Personal Email ‘Brazen Decision’ to Flout Law
“This is not your typical political scandal. There were no dead bodies at Watergate.”

Rob Longley

Apr. 4 2015

When Hillary Clinton began using a personal e-mail account to conduct official business as secretary of State, she made a “brazen decision” to flout the law and deny Americans access to records they deserve, according to a panel of open government experts and political watchdogs. What’s more, they say, dozens of officials in and out of the Obama administration must have known about her use of the private e-mail.

The panel spoke Tuesday at a presentation hosted by Judicial Watch, a conservative, nonpartisan government watchdog group that has sued the Department of State in an effort to get records related to Clinton’s tenure at Foggy Bottom. The group also has made numerous requests under the Freedom of Information Act, which requires most non-classified government documents, including e-mails, to be open to public scrutiny.

Tom Fitton, director of Judicial Watch, says they have been stymied time and again by both Clinton and the State Department in efforts to obtain the former secretary’s correspondence, especially as it relates to the 2012 attack on the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya. Four Americans died in the attack by Islamic militants, including U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens.
