Electing a GOP Senate Won’t Fix What’s Broke

Voter discontent will give the GOP control of the Senate, but Americans quickly will become as disenamored with a new cast on Capitol Hill.

Paychecks are stagnant and health care and many other things too expensive, but Americans won’t accept what fixing those problems requires and then pressure politicians to act.

The United States manages globalization badly. It has opened markets to cheap imports, while China and other Asian nations maintain high barriers to competitive U.S. exports. Washington has not compelled reciprocity through specific actions to sustain American jobs.

The United States could produce all the energy it needs but unnecessary restrictions on offshore drilling cynically shift environmental risks onto third world countries where oil is tougher to extract.

The resulting trade deficit costs Americans about 5 million jobs.

Americans are correct to demand change, but at all levels the parade of incompetency will continue until Americans reckon with the changes they need to accept.

As I have said society...human society is going through huge changes, driven IMO by that little silicon chip. These changes are never easy or smooth...or logical. So get ready for (at least) 50 years of chaos..war..and large numbers of people saying "I'm Mad As Hell, And I'm Not Going To Take It!"

Another Example...

Is killing ISIS leader a good idea?
Robert Baer

(CNN) -- It's a good bet that right now, someone somewhere in Washington has come up with a plan to decapitate the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) by assassinating its boss, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, and moving down through his lieutenants.

It may comfort us to dismiss ISIS as a group of bloodthirsty terrorists doomed to collapse under their own psychosis and violence. But while ISIS does of course employ terror as a tactic, getting hung up on the word "terror" causes us to miss a more critical truth: that ISIS is a straight-line manifestation of an aggrieved religious sect -- orthodox Sunni Islam. And it's becoming more apparent by the day that a lot of Sunni Muslims believe they're on the losing end of history, and that if they don't hit back, things will get a lot worse.

The fact is that we are likely living what amount to the final agonies of the Ottoman Empire. If that's the case, drone assassinations and targeted killings will get us absolutely nowhere.

This is also part of what so many Muslims think they are fighting against.

This is what they think Western Freedom is all about.

I can't blame them for being ticked off.
