Yes, but he's Center/Right, correct? McQueeg reminds me of Benedict Arnold. If Arnold had died at Saratoga, he'd be considered a hero to this day. It was his actions after that led to his being damned by the end of the war. Now, I'm not suggesting McQueeg should have died in Hanoi, but his actions since coming back have been abysmal starting minutes after he stepped off that plane.

It appears you're asking me to defend someone I have very little use for. Center Right...also may explain why he keeps getting reelected. Find someone who can defeat him and send him home.

I was funning you a bit about the Center bit. Now laugh, please...

Nobody can defeat him, because he pulls tons of votes from Dems. Our Primaries are "semi-open," in that Independents can vote in either Party. A lot of the Indies are really Dems, so that's what keeps him winning Primaries. JD Hayworth was out best shot, and he got wiped out by that huge warchest McQueeg refused to spend against Obama.

Nope, McQueeg's in until he croaks, and I'm not prepared to wish that upon him.

I Hate open primaries/caucuses! McCain is the poster boy for term limits. Like I said I have some problems with term limits (may take a Constitutional amendment), but I understand and often agree with the argument for them. 3 terms in the Senate 5-6 for the House seem to me to be enough...no politician is that irreplaceable. After a while it just becomes ego and a lust for power.

The Deranged, Delusional Paranoia of the Left
Posted by V the K at 9:28 am - October 23, 2014.

A professor of religion at Skidmore (not Skidmark) College [Annual Tuition: $47,314*] opines that we shouldn’t be afraid of ISIS-flavored terror attacks in the United States. Nope, the voices tell her that the real threat comes from … devout followers of Jesus Christ.

Contrary to the popular opinion that radical Islam is the primary threat to homeland security, Christianity provides the other four groups with their extremist rationale. All are in one way or another affiliated with the Christian Identity movement, a hodgepodge of anarchist and white supremacist politics dedicated to white Christian activism. It’s all about God vs. government, and shoring up the rights of Anglo-Saxon Americans.
The mainstream news media have been remarkably slow when it comes to zeroing in on the pervasive reality of hate-based Christian extremism. It is easier, after all, to blame the un-American other. In 2012, six Sikhs were killed and three wounded in Milwaukee by Wade Michael Page, a neo-Nazi skinhead. The “dangerous other” isn’t always Muslim or Muslim-looking. The Millers affixed a swastika to the body of one of the two police officers they killed.

It probably has not occurred to this elite leftist academic that the reason the “mainstream news media” hasn’t covered Christian-based violent terrorism is because…....(Snip)

Special report: America's perpetual state of emergency http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2014/10/22/president-obama-states-of-emergency/16851775/

WASHINGTON — The United States is in a perpetual state of national emergency.

Thirty separate emergencies, in fact.

An emergency declared by President Jimmy Carter on the 10th day of the Iranian hostage crisis in 1979 remains in effect almost 35 years later.

A post-9/11 state of national emergency declared by President George W. Bush — and renewed six times by President Obama — forms the legal basis for much of the war on terror.

Tuesday, President Obama informed Congress he was extending another Bush-era emergency for another year, saying "widespread violence and atrocities" in the Democratic Republic of Congo "pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the foreign policy of the United States."

Those emergencies, declared by the president by proclamation or executive order, give the president extraordinary powers — to seize property, call up the National Guard and hire and fire military officers at will.

"What the National Emergencies Act does is like a toggle switch, and when the president flips it, he gets new powers. It's like a magic wand. and there are very few constraints about how he turns it on," said Kim Lane Scheppele, a professor at Princeton University.

In his six years in office, President Obama has declared nine emergencies, allowed one to expire and extended 22 emergencies enacted by his predecessors.

Even as Congress has delegated emergency powers to the president, it has provided almost no oversight. The 1976 law requires each house of Congress to meet within six months of an emergency to vote it up or down. That's never happened.

German U-boat wreck discovered off North Carolina coast

U-576 rests 240 yards away from freighter it sank during 1942 sea battle 30 miles from United States coastline

The wreckages of a German U-boat and US freighter have been found 30 miles off the coast of North Carolina.

The discovery of U-576 and Bluefields, the merchant ship sunk by the U-boat in a battle on July 15 1942, is a stark reminder of how near the German navy got to American coastline.

Lost for more than 70 years, they were found 240 yards apart on the sea bed by researchers from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

“Most people associate the Battle of the Atlantic with the cold, icy waters of the North Atlantic,” said David Alberg, superintendent of NOAA’s Monitor National Marine Sanctuary.

“But few people realize how close the war actually came to America’s shores."

“As we learn more about the underwater battlefield, Bluefields and U-576 will provide additional insight into a relatively little-known chapter in American history.”

Bluefields, a Nicaraguan-flagged freighter, was part of a KS-520, a 19-strong convoy of merchant ships which set sail from Norfolk, Virginia to Key West, Florida with vital cargo for the war effort.

By July 1942 the Americans had set up a convoy system, backed with air support, to protect the vessels which had repeatedly fallen prey to U-Boat attacks.

U-576, skippered by Kapitanleutnant Hans-Dieter Heinkicke, had already been hit and the submarine was sailing back to Europe when it came across the convoy.

It was a chance to claim a final scalp before crossing the Atlantic and sailing home.

Despite being hit by eight depth charges U-576 fired off its torpedoes, sinking the freighter and damaging two other ships.

The submarine came under further fire and was sunk with all 45 crew on board perishing. None of those aboard the Bluefields died.

John Bright, another researcher with the project, said that Americans were still unaware of the extent to which the German navy penetrated the country’s naval defences, wreaking havoc on merchant shipping.

“It some cases the U-boats could even see the lights of cars on the road,” said Mr Bright.

“The lights from the cities helped them because it would mean the U-boats could see the silhouette of the cargo ships and plot their ambush.”

July 1942 saw particularly fierce battles as the US navy bolstered the protection it offered to the convoys, with the German U-boat fleet suffering badly.

“They did what we would not call a cost-benefit analysis,” Mr Bright added.

“They moved away from the American coast and shifted to the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico where the merchant shipping was less well protected.”

Walgreens is where I got shot. smile.png

Sweet @nickydog!

I'm lucky. Since I have to get a flu shot before December 1st [st. Anthony's Hospital Eucharistic Ministry] they provide them for free....and then update my credentials. My insurance [through Sweet E's union] also has a free walk-in clinic. I like to wait until mid/late-November....since the flu season lasts until February or March.

Medicare pays for mine. At least so far.

The Week in Pictures: Groundhog Day Edition
Steven Hayward
October 25, 2014

You thought Groundhog Day was in February, right? No: it’s been moved. The Obama Administration woke up (if they can ever be said to wake up about anything), saw the groundhog’s shadow up in New York, and realized it means six more weeks of Ebola. What was that about disease vectors? (Ten days.)
