WASHINGTON — The chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee said Thursday that the likelihood Republicans win back the Senate is better today than when he assumed leadership in 2012.

During a luncheon with reporters, Kansas Sen. Jerry Moran, the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, said: “Back in the very beginning, I would’ve told you we had six good candidates in six states.”

Now, Moran said, the number of races where Republicans could pick up seats from Democrats has expanded to somewhere in the range of 12 to 14 states.

Republicans need to flip six states to win back control of the Senate.

Moran credited Republicans with nominating credible candidates in primaries across the country.

“I think what we are most pleased about is the quality of candidates that we have in those states,” Moran said.Scissors-32x32.png

I don't really think it's the quality of the candidates, I think the Dems are suffering from Obama Care and all the other stuff he has done to us

GOP tsunami coming as even Dem-leaning voters bolt: poll

Slightly more Americans identify as Democrat than Republican, but recently history indicates that edge isn’t enough to make up for the energy GOP voters will hold this November, according to Gallup.

“That Republican Party turnout advantage leaves the Democratic Party politically vulnerable in midterm election years when they do not have a significant cushion in partisanship,” the pollsters said.

A narrow, 2-percent lead for Democrats is similar to what Gallup measured in 1994, 2002 and 2010 — strong years for Republicans.

“In years when Democrats enjoyed a wide lead in partisanship, even as Democrats turned out at lower rates than Republicans, the electorate still included more Democrats than Republicans,” Gallup explained. “The two years that fit that description — 1998 and 2006 — are the years in which Democrats gained seats in the House.”Scissors-32x32.png
