Will anti-Israel Cornell divestment groups stage takeover?
William A. Jacobson
Wednesday, April 16, 2014

Last Thursday the Cornell Student Assembly voted 15-8-1 to table indefinitely the anti-Israel Divestment Resolution brought by Students for Justice in Palestine and some other groups.

The video of the shouting by students — and one very aggressive non-student — reflected the frustration of the pro-divestment students.

One anti-Israel Cornell professor even claimed they were denied democratic process, a claim echoed by pro-divestment students in the student newspaper and elsewhere.

Gunmen Kidnap Tunisian Diplomat in Libya

REUTERS

APRIL 17, 2014

TRIPOLI/TUNIS A Tunisian diplomat was kidnapped on Thursday in the Libyan capital Tripoli, Libya's foreign ministry said, two days after gunmen seized Jordan's ambassador.

Kidnappings have become commonplace in the oil producer, with foreign officials often the targets.

The weak interim government has been unable to disarm former rebels and Islamist militants who fought to depose leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011 and who have formed increasingly powerful and violent militias.

Video: How to get kicked out of a Clay Aiken fundraiser
Jazz Shaw
April 19, 2014

In case you hadn’t heard the news, American Idol star, singer and actor Clay Aiken is running for Congress in North Carolina’s second congressional district. He’s hoping to take on (and take down) current GOP Representative Renee Ellmers. While Aiken’s success could allow him to largely self-fund the effort, politics still requires you to get out there and do some fundraising, pressing the flesh with the local donors and power brokers. But as the following video shows, don’t bother stopping by if you’re a Republican. You’re likely to get an icy – and expletive laden – welcome. You can just see Aiken in the background as the clip begins, though he’s quickly blocked from view by some looming thugs with a lot to say.

I’ll preface this with the necessary warnings. NC-17 language ahead, and so much of it packed into a barely more than 30 second clip that I can’t even put up a transcript on the pages of Hot Air. So it’s not for the easily offended and put your headphones on if the kids are around.

I’m not sure what the Democrats were hoping to accomplish by luring Aiken into this race. Yes, he’s a celebrity with a lot of name recognition, but this is still listed as an R+11 district. And it’s not as if this particular election strategy has worked for them in the recent past, either. (Just ask those star elected officials Elizabeth Colbert Busch and Ashley Judd.)

I Heard It On The * NARN

Here’s the website for Abdimalik Askar, running for MN House in HD60B against Phyllis Kahn.

* Northern Alliance Radio Network

At the rist of sounding racist, where does his name come from? Just interested.

He's Somali

Huh. At the risk of sounding racist again, he doesn't look like any Somali(an?) I've ever seen. Obviously his heritage started somewhere else. I will look it up.

Ohhh -- ha! Turns out that is not a picture of Abdimalik Askar. That is Tony Hernandez who was conducting the interview. bag.gif

You just can't make this stuff up...

Actions may speak louder than words, but Sen. Richard Blumenthal took that mentality to the extreme on Friday.

The Connecticut Democrat was standing behind Milford Mayor Ben Blake on the town's Metro-North station platform as the two held a press conference on railway safety. Complete with easels and charts, Blake was laying out the MTA's safety violations, which total 139 over the last 10 years, worth $552,000 in fines.

"Safety, as you know, is paramount," Blake said — and then this happened.

It would appear that taking personal responsibility for train safety is equally important. And that yellow line on the edge of the platform? It's there for a reason, senator.
