Interior Dept: That shutdown cost our national parks $414 million, you guys http://hotair.com/archives/2014/03/04/interior-dept-that-shutdown-cost-our-national-parks-414-million-you-guys/

As you might remember, the Obama administration did just about everything it could think of to make the government shutdown last fall as visible, inconvenient, and outrageous as was humanly possible, including all kinds of Washington-Monument strategizing with our nation’s national parks both large and small. They gated off the open-air World War II memorial and scenic overlooks on the George Washington Parkway; they forced the innkeepers of a privately-run inn on the Blue Ridge Parkway to close up shop during peak leaf-viewing season; they tried to nudge states into shutting down even state-run properties for the duration of the shutdown. So, uhm… let that be a lesson to you?

Via the Washington Examiner:

The 16-day government shutdown in October came at a $414 million economic loss to communities that host and surround national parks, the Interior Department said Monday.

The Week in Pictures: Crimea River Edition

Steven Hayward

3/8/14

I got the opportunity last night to ask Charles Krauthammer (we did schtick together again for a Pacific Research Institute dinner in Newport Beach) what he thought went on during the 90-minute phone between Obama and Putin. Were they exchanging tips? Charles thought Putin must have needed his ophthalmologist at his side to keep his eyes from rolling too much. I offered that Putin probably said: You Americans used to mock our grain harvests, but seriouslyObamacare? Or maybe Obama took literally Putins praise for his flexibility.

From the You Can't Make It Up Fast Enough File.........

Your porn is not Canadian enough, CRTC warns erotica channels
Tristin Hopper

March 5, 2014

For failing to broadcast sufficient levels of Canadian-made pornography — and failing to close-caption said pornography properly — a trio of Toronto-based erotica channels has earned a reprimand from the Canadian Radio-television & Telecommunications Commission.

Wednesday, the CRTC issued a broadcast notice saying AOV Adult Movie Channel, XXX Action Clips and the gay-oriented Maleflixxx were all failing to reach the required 35% threshold for Canadian content.

Based on a 24-hour broadcast schedule, that translates to about 8.5 hours of Canadian erotica a day.

WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!

And Its all your fault!

I read as many of the comments as I could stomach, which wasn't a whole lot, but I am amazed at what some people seriously think. But then, they would be equally amazed at me no doubt.

Obama administration claims credit for Common Core, further proving initiative was federally driven http://iowntheworld.com/blog/?p=228164#more-228164

WASHINGTON, D.C. – For far too long a big part of the Common Core debate has been about establishing simple fact: the federal government provided serious coercion to get states to adopt the Core, and the Core’s creators asked for such arm twisting.

Indeed, just yesterday, Andy Smarick at the Core-supporting Thomas B. Fordham Institute lamented that the write-up for President Obama’s education budget proposal gives the administration credit for widespread Core adoption. Wrote Smarick: “The anti-Common Core forces will likely use this language as evidence that Common Core was federally driven.” Of course it was federally driven, by Race to the Top (RTTT) and No Child Left Behind (NCLB) waivers! But the budget proposal tells us far more than that.

The big story in the proposal is – or, at least, should be – that the president almost certainly wants to make the Core permanent by attaching annual federal funding to its use, and to performance on related tests. Just as the administration called for in its 2010 NCLB reauthorization proposal, POTUS wants to employ more than a one-time program, or temporary waivers, to impose “college and career-ready standards,” which–thanks to RTTT and waivers–is essentially synonymous with Common Core. In fact, President Obama proposes changing Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act – of which NCLB is just the most recent reauthorization – to a program called “College- and Career-Ready Students,” with an annual appropriation of over $14 billion.

This was utterly predictable. Core opponents, who are so often smeared as conspiracy mongers, know full well both what the President has proposed in the past, and how government accumulates power over time. RTTT was the foot in the door, and once most states were using the same standards and tests, there was little question what Washington would eventually say: “Since everyone’s using the same tests and standards anyway, might as well make federal policy based on that."

People Beijing March 10 (Reporter Zhao Jing)

during the two sessions, people are more willing to Mao Xinyu called "Mao members," not only because he is a member of the CPPCC National Committee, but his grandfather Mao Zedong in the 1920s and 1930s early revolutionary career Jibei people affectionately known as "Mao members." As a leader of offspring, Mao Xinyu members great concern, he also approachable to everyone was impressed.

"people are more willing to Mao Xinyu called "Mao members,""

Actual meaning that they call him Mao Members as in plural due to massive girth.

"he also approachable to everyone was impressed"

due to Honorable Members' size all other objects dwarf in comparison, and like dark hole, cannot help but circle about him
