Original Title : Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of Seal Team 10

At the beginning of the book, Marcus Luttrell describes his childhood and his training to prepare for the Navy SEALs with Billy Shelton. After joining the U.S. Navy and completing SEAL training, Luttrell describes his posting in Afghanistan, in the Hindu Kush mountains of the Kunar province. With him are the rest of SEAL Team 10, except Shane E. Patton, for whom Danny Dietz was substituted.

Moron Movie Review: Lone Survivor —Andy

"It is well that war is so terrible, or we should grow too fond of it." ~ Robert E. Lee

The film in one word: Intense

My Moron recommendation: 5 Ewoks. It's a must-see!

But first some background, in order to properly frame the review.

I first met Marcus Luttrell in 2008. We brought him up to Boston for a fundraiser for my son's autism school, which had just moved to a much larger location. Funds were critical to getting it up and running, with the big auction item at the event being naming rights to the playground that was on the drawing board.

I didn't really think the tie-in would work that well - it's Boston not Beaumont, and what does a Navy SEAL's experience have to do with working with kids with autism anyway? - but, hey, the book was a best-seller at the time and the school was founded by a Navy brat, so what the hell?

The house was packed to listen to Marcus speak, and speak he did,Scissors-32x32.png

The Eternal Darkness of the Progressive Mind

January 20, 2014 by Bruce Thornton

The attacks on Lone Survivor, the movie about 4 Navy Seals caught in an operation gone lethally wrong in Afghanistan, illustrate once again the fossilized orthodoxy of the left. The L.A. Weekly’s Amy Nicholson called the movie a “jingoistic snuff film” that “bleeds blood red, bone-fracture white, and bruise blue” and assumes “brown people bad, American people good.” Similarly, Salon’s Andrew O’Hehir called it a “jingoistic, pornographic work of war propaganda.” Such rhetoric reveals the anti-military, anti-American biases typical of progressives, a form of bigotry as stale as disco king Tony Manero’s white leisure suit.

The reference to 1977’s Saturday Night Fever isn’t random. The next year another movie debuted that goaded the left into a similar fit of anti-American high dudgeon. The Deer Hunter, Michael Cimino’s sympathetic portrayal of 3 working-class steelworkers snip

Fashion in dance and dress changes and evolves, which is why these days no one dances or dresses like Tony Manero. But the progressive mind is permanently lost in its ideological darkness. It is still hostage to the left-wing catechism of American evil, snip

For so much of the Left Heroism in war (or anything else for that matter) is stale and out of date.

Lone Survivor and Insufferable Anti-American Self-Righteousness

The “Lone Survivor” Litmus Test

By Jim ONeill (Bio and Archives) Tuesday, January 21, 2014

Let’s talk reality: When the film shows jihadists storming into a village and lopping off a man’s head, it understates their atrocities. I don’t know what has to be done to penetrate the thick skulls of the willfully ignorant, but the Taliban and their al-Qaeda allies are evil to a degree Americans (obviously) have trouble comprehending.

...Though there are no perfect men, there is good and evil, and the SEALs were (and are) doing great good against unspeakable evil.—David French “Lone Survivor and Insufferable Anti-American Self-RighteousnessScissors-32x32.png

Now that I have finally watched the movie “Lone Survivor” I feel qualified to weigh in on the controversy stirred up by the film. What do I mean by controversy? Scissors-32x32.png

Why do I say that the Far Left (and through osmosis the Left as a whole, to varying degrees) finds everything about the SEAL Code offensive? Well…they are arrogant globalists who find the idea of patriotism to be at best quaintly retardataire, and at worst counter-revolutionary bourgeois bile. They believe in, teach, and promote the poisonous absurdity of multiculturalism. They tend to be amoral atheists (in fact, if not in name) who cultivate the base insidiousness of moral relativity—i.e the Taliban’s destruction of the ancient Bamiyan Buddhas is considered to be on a par with “loyalty to country and Team” (also see “multiculturalism”). The idea of being personally responsible for their actions is anathema to them—”victimhood” is their rallying cry and cause celebre. “Take responsibility for your actions?” Value loyalty, honesty, integrity, and commitment? Puh-leeze. We are talking about the Far Left here—graduates of “The Machiavelli School of Lies and Skullduggery.”Scissors-32x32.pnghttp://canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/60612

The strange hate for Lone Survivor

Rich Lowry

January 21, 2014

The movie Lone Survivor didnt get any major Oscar nominations, but perhaps it shouldve been nominated for Most Unlikely Politically Incorrect Picture of the Year.

Its based on the true story of a mission in Afghanistan that goes disastrously wrong. A four-man team of Navy SEALs hunting down a Taliban commander is stumbled upon by a couple of goatherds in the mountains of Kunar province. Deciding to let them go, even though it will compromise them, the SEALs are subsequently outnumbered in a fierce firefight. Three are killed, and a Chinook helicopter attempting to relieve them is downed, killing another 16 Americans. The only survivor is a SEAL named Marcus Luttrell, who is played by Mark Wahlberg and wrote a book about the mission.

None of this is remotely controversial material. How could anyone be offended by a movie about a Navy SEAL fighting with everything he has to save himself and his buddies and improbably surviving an epic ordeal? Yet the brickbats have been flying from the snotty left: Propaganda. Simplistic. Racist.

Lone Survivor has run up against part of the culture that cant stand the most straightforward depictions of American heroism and the warrior ethic.

The real problem with this movie is, No Diversity. I mean where is the left handed albino lesbian?

Operation Red Wings: The Untold Story Behind Lone Survivor (SOFREP) [Kindle Edition]

Peter Nealen (Author), SOFREP (Author), Brandon Webb (Foreword)

Publication Date: December 17, 2013

Marcus Luttrell's blockbuster bestseller, Lone Survivorsoon to be a major motion picturetells the story of Operation Red Wings, in which four U.S. Navy SEALs were inserted into the mountains of eastern Afghanistan with the task of collecting intelligence and findingor killinga top al Qaeda commander. The SEALs were ambushed by over one hundred Taliban fighters and a horrific battle ensued. The rescue helicopter carrying eight SEALs was shot down by a reported Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG), killing them instantly and erasing any hope for the SEALs already on the ground. Luttrell was the only survivor.

OPERATION RED WINGS is an in-depth examination of the recovery mission to rescue Luttrell, filled with never-before-told details and shocking new revelations. Author Peter Nealen (former USMC Force Recon) and the team at SOFREP have an expansive network within the Special Operations community, providing them with access to exclusive interviews, after action reports, military intel and previously untold accounts of the rescue mission. Nealen and his team have uncovered eyewitness reports that put the "official" story into question as to how the initial rescue helicopter was shot down. If true, this potential coverup will have had severe consequences on subsequent helicopter insertion operations and put lives at risk.

Complete with a foreword by former Navy SEAL Brandon Webb, this is a must-have companion to the blockbuster book and upcoming film.
