Muslims seek refuge in C. African Republic church

KRISTA LARSON

Feb. 24, 2014

CARNOT, Central African Republic (AP) The Christian militiamen know hundreds of Muslims are hiding here on the grounds of the Catholic church and now they're giving them a final ultimatum: Leave Central African Republic within a week or face death at the hands of machete-wielding youths.

On Monday, some of the 30 Cameroonian peacekeepers fired into the air to disperse angry militia fighters congregated outside the concrete walls of the church compound. The gunfire sent traumatized children running for cover and set off a chorus of wails throughout the courtyard.

The peacekeepers are all that stand between nearly 800 Muslims and the armed gangs who want them dead. Already the fighters known as the anti-Balaka have brought 40 liters (10 gallons) of gasoline and threatened to burn the church to the ground.

Even the Rev. Justin Nary, who takes in more Muslims by the day, knows he too is a marked man in the eyes of anti-Balaka.

"Walking through town I've had guns pointed in my face four times," he says. "They call my phone and say they'll kill me once the peacekeepers are gone."

Kim Jong-Un Orders Massacre of 33 Christians

They’re being charged with attempting to overthrow the regime, but their real crime is that they were working with jailed South Korean Christian missionary Kim Jung-wook to set up 500 underground churches in North Korea.

They are not being “executed.” Using that word would lend some legality and moral framework to Kim’s action. This is nothing less than a massacre of innocent human beings — a slaughter that should raise an outcry in every civilized nation of the world.

The Daily Mail reports:

Thirty-three North Koreans face execution after being charged with attempting to overthrow the repressive regime of Kim Jong-un.

The Koreans have landed themselves in hot water after it emerged they had worked with South Korean Baptist missionary Kim Jung-wook and received money to set up 500 underground churches. It is understood they will be put to death in a cell at the State Security Department.

Experts believe the North Koreans are being punished more harshly than usual as North Korean leader Kim Jong-un combats a wave of dissatisfaction at the regime’s isolationist “juche” doctrine.

Missionary Kim Jung-wook was arrested and jailed last year for allegedly trying to establish underground churches. Last week he held a press conference at which he apologized for committing “anti-state” crimes and appealed for his release from North Korean custody.

Islamists Kidnap Nuns

By Rod Dreher December 3, 2013, 10:18 AM

Lord have mercy:

Islamist rebels have kidnapped a group of nuns from the Greek Orthodox monastery of St Thecla (Mar Taqla) in Maaloula (north of Damascus). Mgr Mario Zenari, the Vatican nuncio in Damascus, confirmed the information after speaking with the Greek-Orthodox Patriarchate. Through the Vatican diplomat, the latter calls on all Catholics to pray for the women religious.

Armed men burst in the monastery of St Thecla in Maaloula this afternoon. From there, they forcibly took 12 women religious, Mgr Zenari said, citing a statement from Patriarchate. The group of Islamist rebels has apparently taken them to Yabrud, some 80 km north of the capital. Neither the nuncio nor the church Greek Orthodox Church know reason behind the kidnapping Scissors-32x32.pnghttp://www.theamericanconservative.com/dreher/islamists-kidnap-nuns/

Obama and the Churches of Saudi Arabia

Next week the president visits the Kingdom. He should bring up its harassment of Christians.

Nina Shea

March 20, 2014

When President Obama visits Saudi Arabia next week, he will have an opportunity to follow through on his inspiring words at the Feb. 6. National Prayer Breakfast. There, he told thousands of Christian leaders that "the right of every person to practice their faith how they choose" is central to "human dignity," and so "promoting religious freedom is a key objective of U.S. foreign policy."

The freedom so central to human dignity is denied by the Kingdom. The State Department has long ranked Saudi Arabia among the world's most religiously repressive governments, designating it a "Country of Particular Concern" under the International Religious Freedom Act. Yet the Obama administration, like its predecessors, has not pressed Riyadh to respect religious freedom.

(Snip)

Christian foreign workers in Saudi Arabia can only pray together clandestinely. Religious-police dragnets against scores of Ethiopian house-church Christians, mostly poor women working as maids, demonstrate the perils of worshiping: arrest, monthslong detention and abuse, and eventual deportation. The more fortunate do what I did when I visited three years agosneak off to pray in a windowless safe room behind embassy walls.

It's difficult to hide a worship service in the tightly-controlled kingdom. The Committee to Promote Virtue and Prevent Vice, the religious police, is always looking for women and men mingling together, women who fail to conform to the state-mandated Muslim dress code, and the movements of foreigners. University of Milan Professor Camille Eid, who has worked in Jeddah, reported to the Catholic outlet Zenit in 2011 that he was afraid even to give Christmas or Easter greetings over the phone for fear "someone might be listening."

Why Media Don’t Cover Jihadist Attacks on Christians

“To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting Him to public disgrace”—Hebrews 6:6

The United Nations, Western governments, media, universities, and talking heads everywhere insist that Palestinians are suffering tremendous abuses from the state of Israel. Conversely, the greatest human rights tragedy of our time—radical Muslim persecution of Christians, including in Palestinian controlled areas—is devotedly ignored.

The facts speak for themselves. Reliable estimates indicate that anywhere from 100-200 million Christians are persecuted every year; one Christian is martyred every five minutes. Approximately 85% of this persecution occurs in Muslim majority nations. In 1900, 20% of the Middle East was Christian. Today, less than 2% is.Scissors-32x32.png

Aid proposed to stop Christian persecution in the Middle East, panel says

The United States can help Christians being persecuted in the Middle East by using foreign aid to modify behaviors in countries where persecution is rampant, educating U.S. diplomats about the issue in their assigned regions and asking for help from Arab-Americans, a panel of religious freedom researchers said Monday.

But in helping fight Christian persecution, the U.S. must not become a crutch or a larger target for those it’s trying to protect, said Marwan Kreidie, a political science professor at Villanova University.

“You don’t want to be ‘the great white hope,’” said Mr. Kreidie, a coordinator for Villanova's Center for Arab and Islamic Studies. “The future of Middle Eastern Christians should be in the Middle East.”

Mr. Kreidie was one of a three-member panel assembled by the Center for American Progress to discuss Christian persecution overseas and what can be done about it.

According to a 2012 Pew Research Center study, millions of Christians in more than 100 countries are subjected to some form of persecution.

Turkey’s New Jihad on Christian Armenians

Far from being repentant of the Armenian Genocide, Turkey, under the leadership of Prime Minister Erdogan, is again targeting Armenians; is again causing their death and dislocation.

In the early morning hours of March 21, al-Qaeda linked Islamic jihadis crossed into Syrian territory from the Turkish border and launched a jihad on the Christian/Armenian town of Kessab. Among other thing, “Snipers targeted the civilian population and launched mortar attacks on the town and the surrounding villages.” Reportedly eighty people were killed.

The jihadis later made a video touring the devastated town; no translation is needed, as the main phrase shouted throughout is Islam’s triumphant war cry, “Allahu Akbar” (or, according to Sen. John McCain’s translation, “thank God”).Scissors-32x32.png

MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD SLAUGHTER CHRISTIAN WOMAN

On Friday, March 28, in Ain Shams, a suburb of Cairo, Muslim Brotherhood supporters attacked the Virgin Mary and Archangel Michael Coptic Orthodox Church, including by opening fire on it and setting parked cars aflame. Four people died.

One of the slain, a young Coptic woman, was savagely mauled and molested before being murdered—simply because her cross identified her as a Christian to the Brotherhood rioters.

According to an eyewitness who discussed the entire event on the Egyptian program, 90 Minutes, Mary Sameh George was parking by the church to deliver medicine to a sickly, elderly woman:

Once they saw that she was a Christian [because of the cross hanging on her rear view mirror], they jumped on top of the car, to the point that the vehicle was no longer visible. The roof of the car collapsed in. When they realized that she was starting to die, they pulled her out of the car and started pounding on her and pulling her hair—to the point that portions of her hair and scalp came off. They kept beating her, kicking her, stabbing her with any object or weapon they could find…. Throughout [her ordeal] she tried to protect her face, giving her back to the attackers, till one of them came and stabbed her right in the back, near the heart, finishing her off. Then another came and grabbed her by the hair, shaking her head, and with the other hand slit her throat. Another pulled her pants off, to the point that she was totally naked.Scissors-32x32.png

Egyptian Islamists Murder Young Christian, After Dragging Her From Car

CNSNews.com) – Eyewitnesses have given a harrowing account of the murder in Cairo of a young Coptic Christian woman, hauled out of her car and beaten and stabbed to death by a Muslim mob, apparently targeted because of a cross hanging from her rear-view mirror.

The incident occurred in the Cairo suburb of Ain Shams after mosque prayer services on Friday, when police clashed with Muslim Brotherhood supporters angered by army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s decision to run for president.

An eyewitness appearing on “90 minutes,” a program on the al-Mehwar satellite network, said 25-year-old Mary Sameh George was attacked in her car near a church, where she planned to deliver medicine to an ill and elderly woman.

Protestors climbed onto her car, collapsing the roof, then hauled her from the vehicle, beating and mauling her – to the extent, he said, that portions of her scalp were torn off. She was stabbed multiple times, her throat was slit and when she was dead, the mob torched her car.

Amnesty: 1,500 Nigerians Killed in Boko Haram Violence in 2014

Heather Murdock

March 31, 2014

ABUJA Amnesty International says 1,500 people have been killed this year in an escalating armed conflict between Boko Haram insurgents and Nigerian security forces. Amnesty says more than half the victims were civilians.

Amnesty International calls the rising number of Boko Haram attacks truly shocking and the reaction of Nigerian security forces, brutality.

The rights group says both sides may have committed acts that may constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity." It calls for an investigation by the African Commission on Human and Peoples Rights and the U.N. Human Rights Council.

Boko Haram, an Islamist militant group based in northeastern Nigeria, has been attacking government forces, churches, schools, markets and mosques since it began violent operations in 2009.

Armenian Town Attacked by Syrian Rebels

4/4/14

Rebels attacked the town of Kesab in northwest Syria, home to a community of Armenian Christians. The attack is a chilling reminder of the 1915 genocide among the global Armenian community, which has taken to social media in protest.

Kasab is located in Latakia province, an Assad stronghold and the site of a recent conflict between government and rebel forces. The LA Times reports:

(Snip)

The rebels have been brutal to Syria’s Christians (some of whom support Assad), ransacking churches and kidnapping nuns and clergymen. Much of the Western media has remained strangely silent about the ongoing persecution Christians have suffered during the war. Perhaps the outcry among the worldwide Armenian community will provoke some long-overdue consideration of their plight.

Chinese Christians urge Communist Party to halt church 'demolition campaign'

Christians in eastern China are calling on Communist Party leaders to abandon what they say is an "ill-conceived" and invasive campaign to tear down local churches.

At least 10 places of worship in Zhejiang province are currently threatened with demolition or having crosses that were deemed too prominent removed from their roofs, religious activists say.

The exact cause of the alleged demolition campaign is unclear. However, opponents believe it is part of a deliberate attack on the region's Protestant church by senior members of Zhejiang's officially atheist Communist Party. Senior officials are said to object to the Church's growing visibility in what is often described as China's most Christian region.

A petition circulating among religious leaders this week accused officials of "gross interference" in religious freedoms.Scissors-32x32.png

Dutch priest murdered in his church in the besieged Syrian city of Homs

A Dutch priest who had refused to leave the besieged Syrian city of Homs in solidarity with its residents, was on Monday beaten and then shot dead in his monastery by a masked gunman.

During more than three years of war, Father Francis Van der Lugt, 75, had insisted on remaining in the destroyed Old City of Homs, risking starvation and near constant shellfire, until every last civilian could be evacuated from the district.

The Jesuit priest - of the same order as the Pope - had helped to keep the plight of the Old City's residents in the international spotlight by writing letters to his church order in Holland, and posting video messages from inside his monastery in the besieged Bustan al-Diwan district.

It was in this monastery, that, after more than four decades of living in Syria, Father Van der Lugt was murdered.Scissors-32x32.png

‘They Are Slaughtering Us Like Chickens’

As happens at Christmas every year throughout the Muslim world, Christians and their churches were especially targeted—from jihadi terror strikes killing worshippers, to measures by Muslim authorities restricting Christmas celebrations. Some incidents follow:

Iraq: “Militants” reported the Associated Press, “targeted Christians in three separate Christmas Day bombings in Baghdad, killing at least 37 people, officials said Wednesday. In one attack, a car bomb went off near a church in the capital’s southern Dora neighborhood, killing at least 26 people and wounding 38, a police officer said. Earlier, two bombs ripped through a nearby outdoor market simultaneously in the Christian section of Athorien, killing 11 people and wounding 21.”

Iran: Five Muslim converts to Christianity were arrested from a house-church during a Christmas celebration. Plain clothes Iranian security authorities raided a house where, according to Mohabat News, “a group of Christians had gathered to celebrate Christmas on Tuesday, December 24.” Before arresting the five apostates, authorities “insulted and searched those in attendance, and seized all Christian books, CDs, and laptops they found. They also took the Satellite TV receiver.” The original report received by Mohabat stated: “These Christians had gathered to worship and celebrate [the] birth of Jesus.”Scissors-32x32.png

Christians ‘Crucified Again’ for Refusing Islam

To the awe of its readership, a recent Daily Mail article reports that the “jihadist Islamic State of Iraq and Levant [iSIL],” which is currently entrenched in Raqqa, Syria, “publicly crucified two Syrian rebels in northeastern Syria in revenge for a grenade attack on members of their group.”

While the Daily Mail is to be commended for exposing these barbaric acts—along with posting photos of the crucified—it nonetheless minimized their significance, in two important ways: 1) by repeatedly saying things like “even al-Qaeda is distancing itself from ISIL,” and so implying that the act of crucifixion is some wild aberration that even the poster-child of jihadi terror, al-Qaeda, wants nothing to do with it; and 2) ignoring the much “sexier” story that Christians in Syria are also being crucified simply for refusing to embrace Islam (as opposed to the rather mundane but politically more correct story of Islamic jihadis crucifying each other in the context of vendetta killings).Scissors-32x32.png

Iraqi Priest on Persecution of Christians: ‘Has the World Forgotten Us?’

(CNSNews.com) - An Anglican priest set the tone on Wednesday at an event to unveil a pledge and “call to action” signed by almost 200 faith leaders across the country to end the persecution of Christians in the Middle East.

The Rev. Canon Andrew White, who operates a church and health clinic in Baghdad, Iraq, said the youth in his care asked him about their plight.

“They said, ‘Abuna, Abuna (Father, Father) has the world forgotten us?” White said at a gathering at the Capitol hosted by Reps. Frank Wolf (R-Va.) and Anna Eshoo (D-Calif.). “Has the world forgotten that we are there?’"

"Yes, we can talk about being Christian,” White said, “but do we know that we are brothers and sisters?Scissors-32x32.png

Nigeria_Boko_Haram_Jihad_Terrorist_Islam

The #BringBackOurGirls Twitter hashtag

online activism about the plight of girls abducted by Boko Haram terrorists in Nigeria — has been embraced by numerous celebrities, including Alyssa Milano. This situation has gained worldwide attention and highlights a reality that American media have in recent years deliberately ignored: The persistent menace of violent Islamic jihad in sub-Saharan Africa.

If the news of the Boko Haram abductions was shocking, it was because the American media have been so busy promoting the Obama administration’s narrative that, since the death of Osama bin Laden, the threat of Islamic terrorism has essentially ended. This narrative is politically convenient for Democrats, but as with most such narratives, it’s a gigantic lie. There are still many millions of Muslims in the world who hate us and want us all dead, Scissors-32x32.png

Boko Haram and Islamic Rape

John Thompson (Bio and Archives) Friday, May 9, 2014

By now, much of the world has heard about Boko Haram and the kidnapping of hundreds of schoolgirls in northeastern Nigeria; and many voices are clamouring for the girls to be rescued. Good luck with that but those girls were not kidnapped for ransom, they were kidnapped to be raped… repeatedly.

Boko Haram is much more than another of the tribal insurgencies that pester Africa. They are Sunni Muslims who subscribe to the Salafist doctrines that inspire the Muslim Brotherhood and al-Qaeda. Their aim is to subject all of the Hausa and Fulani peoples of Nigeria to Sharia law and go on from there to build the Caliphate of the Umma. They have very real links to the Brotherhood and to African franchises of al-Qaeda.Scissors-32x32.png

Boko Haram and the shame of the Left

Having spent years apologising for Islamist atrocities and calling anyone who raised any concerns an "Islamophobe", Leftists, especially feminists, should hang their heads in shame at events in Nigeria

Not everyone on the Left has been at it. There have been some lonely, honourable voices (Nick Cohen, in Britain for example) who have spoken out with passion and decency. But let's cut the proverbial. The British, European and even American Left has shamed itself no less disgracefully in recent years over the atrocities and oppression of radical Islam than they did over the atrocities and oppression of communism in the 20th century.

From "running dogs of capitalism" making up propaganda about the worker's paradise of yesteryear to the "Islamophobes" of today, they've always taken a much stronger line against the critics of oppression than its perpetrators.

But as with communism, the truth will out in the end and the Left's shocking betrayel of all standards of decency may make some of them start to have second thoughts.

Perhaps the dreadful kidnappings in Nigeria of more than 270 girls will prove to be just such a moment. At least the Guardian is reporting it. Here's an extract from a report in the paper today: Scissors-32x32.png

Democrats Flip-Flop On Boko Haram’s Terrorist Designation

Posted by: Javier Manjarres on May 9, 2014

Remember when then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her team refused to name the Nigerian Islamist terror group Boko Haram as a terrorist organization in 2011?

As my amigo Jim Hoft over at the Gateway Pundit wrote, “the far left is suddenly outraged” about he group, but only after the terror group kidnapped close to 300 school girls in northeaster Nigeria.

The left-leaning blog, ThinkProgress, was quick to run cover for why Clinton did not designate Boko Haram as a terror group.

But there were multiple valid reasons for the State Department to disagree with the Justice Department and other agencies dealing with counterterrorism — such as the FBI and CIA — who urged State to place Boko Haram on the Foreign Terrorists Organization (FTO) list. “Designation is an important tool, it’s not the only tool,” a former State Department official told the Beast. “There are a lot of other things you can do in counterterrorism that doesn’t require a designation.” This includes boosting development aid to undercut the causes of unrest and deploying the FBI to assist in tracking down Boko Haram, both of which the U.S. actually did.-ThinkProgress Scissors-32x32.png

PREGNANT WOMAN FACING EXECUTION IN SUDAN: 'I AM A CHRISTIAN'

Mariam Yahia Ibrahim Ishag, a 27-year-old pregnant mother, has been sentenced to death in Sudan for "apostasy" for marrying a Christian, despite being raised a Christian, because her father was Muslim. Ibrahim has refused to accept Islam after a three-day stay on her execution and is slated to be killed today.

Ibrahim, who is almost nine months pregnant, is married to an American citizen of South Sudanese descent, who has applied for her to come to the United States but has not yet received approval from the American government. Her marriage is considered void by the Sudanese government because of her husband's Christian faith, and she was sentenced to hanging and 100 lashes for both adultery and apostasy. She was given three days to abandon the Christian faith and her husband and children-- her unborn child and an 18-month-old boy-- and "revert" to her father's religion. The court did not make clear what would happen to the children should she renounce Christianity-- and thus her family-- and accept their version of Islam.

Ibrahim refused to abandon her religious faith, telling the judge, "I am a Christian and I never committed apostasy."Scissors-32x32.png
