Valin
National Journal: 8/28/12 A three-year-old deaf boy named Hunter has been told by his school to change the way he signs his name because his hand gestures may look like guns, his family claims. (Snip) According to the news report, Hunter signs his name by crossing his index finger and middle finger and then wagging his hands, which the school says is not appropriate. Grand Island Public Schools’ policy forbids any “instrument” that “looks like a weapon,” according to the local station. RidesAPaleHorse
Maybe the kids parents should change his name to f*** you. Much easier to sign and it doesn't "look like a gun". These "people" are just unhinged.

Valin
I can't believe it. How can a little 3-year old's fingers "look like a gun?" This is what happens with Zero Tolerance laws. the "thinking" is...We have to do something about violence in schools...therefore we will ban anything can can be used as an instrument of violence no guns no knives, nothing that can be harmful, this given the bureaucratic mind leads us to... Hunter Spanjer All because no one in the Grand Island school board ever considered a situation like this. It's so much easier to ban something rather than make people use their brains. (off topic) Today we have metal detectors in schools no one (apparently) asks....why. Why do we need them when not that long ago we didn't. Could it have something to do with the culture?...Nah...that could have anything to do with it. Because to think that might make certain people uncomfortable and to question their assumptions. pollyannaish
How to mess up an entire generation in two easy steps. 1. Teach them to believe the government knows best. 2. Create stupid rules no-tolerance rules that do not address real issues, but are easy to enforce. Hunter, you are my hero. Wear your name proudly! Edited to add: That principal sounds like an idiot. Sheesh. I swear, smart, intelligent people with common sense are becoming illegal.
