PRESIDENT OBAMA, at a fundraiser last night in L.A.: “[T]he American people, beneath all the pain and hurt and frustration, … still want to believe that that change is possible, and there’s still that hope there. … Mario Cuomo once said that campaigning is poetry and governance is prose. … [W]e’ve been slogging through ‘prose’ for the last three years, and sometimes that gets people discouraged. Because people, they like the poetry.”

Cops buy plots to prevent Josh Powell from being buried next to sons he killed

Two Washington state cops have purchased plots next to Josh Powell's young sons to prevent family members from burying him next to the boys he killed.

"The bottom line is, Josh Powell will not be near those two boys," Pierce County Sheriff's Sgt. Ed Troyer told Seattle-based radio station KIRO-FM on Wednesday.

Troyer and Sheriff Paul Pastor used their own money and dipped into funds from Crime Stoppers Tacoma-Pierce County to pay for plots two and four at Woodbine Cemetery in Puyallup, Wash. Troyer is executive director of the Crime Stoppers branch.

From a Tampa comment:

This is the typical liberal view that you are not free to express or practice YOUR beliefs, yet THEY can shove theirs down your throat. I cannot WAIT for this election.

Well you know they are just a civil rights group. Well except for the Muslim Brotherhood thing.

Hot Air: Video: House committee voting tomorrow to subpoena WH officials over Solyndra

Ed Morrissey

February 16, 2012

Looks like Fred Upton has run out of patience with the White House on Solyndra, where a half-billion taxpayer dollars got flushed down the low-flush toilet by the Department of Energy. The House Energy and Commerce Committee will give the Obama administration one more day to produce staffers for depositions with investigators to find out how that loss was allowed to happen, or Upton will call for a vote to authorize subpoenas:

51-year-old finishes basic at Leonard Wood

The Associated Press

FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. — A 51-year-old woman has finished basic training at Fort Leonard Wood and has become one of the oldest people to go through the 10 weeks of physical and tactical drills.

Sgt. Sandra Coast, of Holmes, Ohio, will graduate Thursday from the program, which allows her to serve with an Army Reserve unit.

Coast served in the Navy for 11 years before leaving in 1993 to raise her son. When her son joined the Marines, she decided to join the Army.

She shed 30 pounds to prepare for training. Despite being older than most of the other recruits, Coast had one of the highest physical fitness test scores in the company.

Her unit’s first sergeant, John Byars, says Coast is “a prime example that age is just a number.”flagday.gif

Republicans try rare tactic to block 2 Obama rules

Republicans in Congress launched bids Thursday to nullify Obama administration rules that would speed up union elections and set the first national air pollution standards for toxic mercury pollution from the nation's power plants.

Republicans in Congress launched bids Thursday to nullify Obama administration rules that would speed up union elections and set the first national air pollution standards for toxic mercury pollution from the nation's power plants.

The rarely used tactic, known as a resolution of disapproval, requires a simple majority for passage. Both have only a small chance of clearing the Senate, but a vote would force some Democrats to take a public stand on two volatile issues in an election year.
