Casino67
RealClearPolitics:As many grass-roots Republicans remain in search of a conservative candidate with the pizazz to go toe-to-toe against President Obama, a man from deep in the heart of Texas who was tea party before the tea party was cool appears to be giving the presidential race some thought.Gov. Rick Perry has insisted on multiple occasions that he has no interest in the presidency, but RCP has learned that political associates have begun to nose around quietly on Perry's behalf.A Texas pol who is close to Perry has been telling a few key strategists that the nation's longest-serving governor sees a vacuum and is waiting to be summoned into the race. This source believes that could happen by late summer. Without fellow Southerners Haley Barbour or Mike Huckabee in the race -- and with Newt Gingrich's early troubles raising further doubts about the current lineup -- there could be a glaring niche for Perry to fill.According to another well-connected Republican, at least one Perry confidant has been very quietly making inquiries about the political terrain in the nation's first voting state of Iowa. A third Perry associate, RCP has learned, has been heralding a small contingent of Iowans with the time-tested line that is often used by would-be candidates who are leaving their options open: "Keep your powder dry." AceRimmer
Rush mentioned Perry as a possible late entry. If he jumps in, Romney can defend his healthcare plan and raise all the money he wants, but might as well throw in the towel, because there's no chance he wins the Southern primaries. AceRimmer
He's as good or better than some of the others. Newt shot himself catastrophically, Romney did pretty much the same, Cain and Paul will liven up the debates but won't win many votes, leaving Pawlenty, Bachmann?, and Perry? I would include Mitch Daniels but the RINOS and RATS are pushing him too hard to be trustworthy...

pollyannaish
I really like the concept of "quietly" gaining steam. Those are the ones to watch because they are more disciplined and better at managing a team. I am really interested in finding out more.

Geee
Mozartlover Paul Ryan is needed in so many places. I don't know about him being VP. He is so valuable where he is and he knows it-thats why he doesn't want to run for Senate. They Say that Tommy is talking about running-no no no. Just stay working for the insurance companies where you are Tommy. I will never forgive him for being a cheerleader for Obamacare with Dick Gephardt. They both work for the same company that oversees benefits.
Sanguine
I like Rick Perry; I voted for Rick, but no, not for Prez. Not now for darn sure, when we need a deft, committed, thoughtful leader. Rick has reached the apex of his ability and perhaps a bit beyond. He's not particularly deep, shoots from the hip (sorry, had to get a Texanism in there), and has supported some very bad decisions, like the Trans-Texas Corridor. Or, for another Texanism: he's mostly hat and no cattle. Nope. No way.

Casino67
So who is it going to be? Current field just doesn't excite me. Have to say I don't know nuttin' about Rick, just thought he might be it because TX has ridden out this economy pretty good. He seems 'business friendly'. That is all I feel I know about him. I feel like there is someone out there we haven't heard from yet that will come in and save the day/election. Have no idea who that might be, if anyone. clearvision
Rick also has a slight problem in that Texas has a pretty bad budget problem that miraculously appeared right after he was re-elected. It should have been clear to everyone it was coming and steps could have been taken, but he avoided it during an election year so now they are cutting teachers etc. with a few months of planning. He may seem dull, but Pawlenty is starting to emerge as the best bet...
